Already its suggested that you delete OLD bumps when you make a new one, so this would control spam Smiley

i dont see any  spam in "Bump" for those who have threads in marketplace section like services or goods
but for the signature campaign its spam bcz its not constructive post this word dont mean anyting except make your thread on the top
It is spam in the signature campaign case and when people do it very often without deleting their previous bumps because if they will not delete the previous posted bumps in the thread, the hosting cost will become more and more because those posts are pointless after there has been a reply.

I think this site archives all deleted and none delted posts anyway. So this isn't a problem with storage. Although, if you meen the bandwidth, then I will suppor tthis!

As everything on this forum is mainly stored in plain text or low resolution images, it would take a lot of content to fill the servers. One "bump" is four bytes + their username, which at the moment, is not very much. That being said, if there were 2000 users that posted one bump, that would be around 1 mb. So they would have to do it 1 million times to use up around 1/4000 of the space of the server (based on average sizes of the main hard drive in web servers).
U forgot to mention the avatar, the signature space and the profile information that will be posted, or not?
But still it is a point that could be improved and should be. I have said my solution, but maybe there could be created a bump button which bumps your thread without actually making the post with the words 'BUMP'. Tell me ur opinion on this.

OK, I can comment on the signature spam and avatar spam that arises from this. I can say that campaign managers should control this as they only pay for posts containing characters of more than 75 characters, or 3 sentences. Tis means, that people shouldn't be getting payments from this.

A bump button would be good or a "send to top of unread messages list" button that makes the forum think that something has  een posted there when it hasn't. This button could only exist if someone has not posted on that thread in that day (the 24 hour period before), and that the last post was not more than 14 days old. The button can then disappear after it has been used once.

Instead of writing 100 times bump in your thread you should delete first delete the previous one and then post a new bump.
So there will be no spam and u did not take any extra forum space. I think this shoukd be a new rule, otherwise the hosting would be a very high price in the future.

Bumping is not spam. People are trying to get their services or products noticed by other people.

I think it is a good idea to bump once a day delete old bump post. That will reduce the total number of posts in a thread.

I see no problem with bumps as long as the rules are followed. Sometimes it's a good way to get great topics back in front of people that may have fallen to the bottom of a pile. I've had people bump some topics for me that re-started the interest in the topic again and several more people that were new to the forums found the topic interesting as well.

Some people tend to bump their thread several times per day. That is what I consider to be spam.

If you just bump your thread once per day then it is just fine. Digital goods and service section is very active.

Threads fall back to page 2 within a few hours some times. Then a bump once per day comes handy.

I saw somewhere that there is a rule that you can bump your thread every once in 24 hours but you gotta delete the previous bump so it will not be considered as a spam post. It's to be fair so that the other threads will not be covered .
This is correct. If anyone sees people bumping threads too early or not deleting the previous bumps please report them. I always swiftly delete those.

Yeah, that's the purpose of a bump and if you look at the rules, they're pretty clear.  Bumps are allowed once a day and you're supposed to delete old bumps.  I don't see it as a big problem and I did it once when I first started here and was trying to sell a couple of video games.  Bumping is way, WAY down on the list of this forum's problems.
Yes bump very important to make your post to be on top of the section but I never see people delete their old bumps

I feel that "bump" spam is a major problem of this forum.
Everyone who is selling that doesn't have a buyer, seems to post bump (a meaningless one word reply).
Does anyone else hate this?

I feel that this is to get their topic back near to te top of the https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=unread.
Bumps are allowed(unofficial forum rules), if not for them you'd see topics being locked and another ones being created everyday. That is, if they are done only every 24 hrs
