I never heard any popular companies that invested a lot in Bitcoins or any crypto coins and this is the first time I've read a company investing into it.

You're probably living under a rock or you simply don't follow news and trends. Popular companies like IBM, Microsoft, Samsung and even financial institutions like JP Morgan are getting involved with Cryptocurrencies. For instance, Samsung is creating its own blockchain for their Ecosystem. Facebook too, is launching Calibra Project which is crypto powered. There's more to this than I've mentioned.

Such types of meeting by influentia personalities promote the adoption of cryptocurrencies around the globe although it was just normal meetup not any official meeting to announce something. But twitter will adopt blockchain technology to compete with other social media modes like facebook to gain more customers and increase profit base.So we hope most people are aware about these coins like bitcoin and adopt them in wider way.

You're getting the reason for this thread wrong. Of course the thread isn't about any 'announcement'. It's just to see that Bitcoin isn't just some small initiative/movement anymore. But one currently on a global level. Government/big institutions are more aware of bitcoin than ever. There's no telling what's coming next... Might just be a big announcement.

Yes this is good news for the world of Bitcoin, I'm sure Twitter will follow Facebook's steps to create a Crypto project in the future. And I'm also sure they will lift the ban about Crypto ads on Twitter. Let's wait for the next good news from them.
A good news indeed, but let just hope this is may start for more adoptions about crypto. Actually, I’m not aware of this news until such this time that Ceo of Twitter had this kind of activity meeting up with Nigerian. For sure other people would be kinda interested to get to know more about bitcoin.

It's interesting to see Jack still in track with bitcoin developments. However, I feel like with him being the CEO of a public company, there's only limited things he could do with bitcoin and his biggest venture, Twitter. He tries to push any and all support he has for crypto from a very personal perspective. In fact, his own influence appears limited compared to the platform he's the CEO of. We shouldn't get too excited trying to connect his involvement with crypto with Twitter's scale because that's likely not going to happen. In fact, I think that Jack might be even seeking out different ventures because among all social media that went public (FB, SNAP), Twitter appears to be having the worst performance this year.

you are overthinking it, he is not planning to change the world. he is simply one of many bitcoin lovers who has seen what this magnificent innovation can do and how it has changed the world and now he is trying to spread the word. again like many others are doing. it is just that he is the CEO of a popular company but he isn't using his company to do it though.
yes that is true , there is a lot of top tech CEO who support/endorse bitcoin openly and a lot more secretly support bitcoin.

it doesn't change anything unless if they launch their own blockchain project. we knew that jack ma alibaba group CEO , Ginni Rometty CEO of IBM, Elon Musk CEO of Tesla and many more has spoken publicly about how they more to supporting the blockchain technology include bitcoin in it. just because all of them held a bitcoin meetup , it would make a significant impact.

no it won't as i said, it could be just a small discussion that produce nothing but an ordinary conversation. it could be a huge difference if twitter itself creating their own tokens for its twitter users  Cheesy

Wow, Africa is really taking a very new dimension in the cryptocurrency usage too and I am quite surprise that bitcoin has gone so wide to the extent of being used in Nigeria too, which is the sign that bitcoin is gradually tending towards becoming the global currency of the world that we have all believed it will be one day without even getting any enforcement from the government or any sort of implementation.

Twitter would really be a very useful place to actually promote bitcoin if they can all come together to create awareness for it and this could really spark a bull run for bitcoin when they start twitter campaign. I wish that we could get a gist of what was being discussed in the meeting to see if it is typically for bitcoin or against bitcoin.

I actually did not know that Twitter CEO is holding Bitcoin and if it is true then indeed its a great news for crypto enthusiastic. Twitter is a popular social media platform. Twitter CEO holding Bitcoin meeting in Nigeria is a positive news for the entire crypto community. I believe Twitter may come up with its own coin once there is some clarification on regulation of cryptocurrencies. Lets wait patiently and  hope for the good time for cryptocurrencies.

Bitcoin would be very useful for Nigeria's economy

Yes, That's a known fact. Bitcoin and Blockchain might be just what our economy needs. The current traditional monetary system isn't living up to desired results. I do believe that Bitcoin would help our finance to a great extent. Recently, a team of crypto enthusiasts wrote an open letter to some leaders in Nigeria about solving one of the country's biggest problems (poverty). More on this available here: https://cryptotvplus.com/a-nigerian-project-with-the-intention-to-eradicate-poverty-has-written-an-open-letter-to-the-efcc-says-its-open-for-questioning/

not sure if he wants to follow in the footsteps of Mark Zuckerberg making his own crypto currency, he said via twitter he only has bitcoin not interested in storing the others, i don't think he will make altcoin himself, the thing that might be is to make bitcoin as a payment tool for advertising on twitter I think it's fair enough
He might be waiting for the regulatory hurdle facebook is facing right now to come up with his new coins and if the regulatory authority approves libra then we can expect all the tech companies coming up with their version of coins, so it will be interesting how they will proceed with the things. I wonder what he was doing in Nigeria rather than going for a bitcoin meet up there must be something in the bags.
yes it might make much more sense, when the authority approves LIBRA it could be the founder of twiter or other sites will also follow to make their own crypto currency, but it seems that no one knows what they are talking about there because there is no video, maybe the founder of twitter wants to see the development of bitcoin adoption in nigeria

Like Facebook, the ban of crypto adds on 2018 was never happened but they just provide some strict policies to ensure that Twitter will not be used on promoting scam projects that related to Crypto. For this current development, which it shows that CEO is into Crypto activities then it might be understood that they are following the path of Facebook too in which they created Libra project because of the popularity of their company.

Just so you know, The Twitter ban of crypto ads were primarily focused on ICOs advertising their token sales. It had nothing to do with Bitcoin or Crypto in general. I don't think Twitter would be creating its own cryptocurrency, wouldn't make much sense. What I think Twitter would do is to get Twitter integrated with payment methods like Bitcoin.  Users can transfer or even tip BTC to anyone. That seems like a more realistic functionality. I'm eager to see how things play out. One thing is sure though. Great things are coming!

Good activities if have CEO twitter want to joined with crypto investing project, they are looking how to make bitcoin grow up at future with higher, many social media want to promote bitcoin as best investment way for investing and keep get positive respond from many people, with CEO twitter I think bitcoin become profitable at the future.

As per him, the CEO of twitter is holding some Bitcoins but he's not holding any altcoins, this simple way that influential people are doing helps to build trust from most people, and gain more confidence to crypto enthusiasts like us as it means either local or influential people like CEO's are now adopting and being more interested in blockchain and crypto related works, maybe they are cooking for some coins that they will launch soon, let's see.

Even with all the negative feedback that the country is getting because of their tendency to scam in the Cryptocurrency space, but these days the country has been gathering a lot of momentum in the Cryptocurrency space, first Binance listed their currency in their exchange and now the twitter CEO is holding a meet-up there, although when I research about the country, it seems that their leaders are oblivious of the existence of Blockchian technology and what it entails but the Cryptocurrency Enthusiasts seem to make up for it.

This is another evidence of Cryptocurrency going mainstream, first it was Mark Zuckerberg who used to fight against Cryptocurrencies but has embraced it to the extent that he even wants to create his own ,and now it's the twitter CEO and the Chinese showing massive love to Cryptocurrencies, the future looks bright, buy and hodl some Bitcoin before the boom.

He said it before that he holds bitcoin and it's the only crypto that he holds.

Jack Dorsey says the ‘only’ cryptocurrency he owns is bitcoin

And his other company, Square also into bitcoin. Those who bought there are now in profit.

Bitcoin Buyers for Square's Cash app Doubled in Q3 2019

He's really into bitcoin and doing the best that he can, yes adoption is imminent and he's contributing on it.

Oh really, that's great to hear. At least we have two major CEOs of social media companies all supporting the invention of cryptocurrencies and its adoption. Zuckerberg on the other hand wants to steer the wheels of cryptocurrencies but got blocked by SEC. Let's hope and see if Jack of Twitter can help in the adoption of cryptocurrencies especially bitcoin without being too greedy to create his own.
Libra isn't blocked but they are being questioned by their own gov't so unless proven to be a threat on their own gov't, they will be blocked. Jack is doing all the help that he can together with his companies.

And that's what we have to recognize and appreciate on him.

I am happy that CEO of twitter is spreading the gospel of bitcoin globally and his coming to Nigeria really shows he is aware about there are huge numbers of bitcoin users and sees the potential effects of having more adopters or hodlers based on the huge population of Nigeria, as for the Central banks Governor I believed he is trying to discouraged the use of bitcoin having considered it decentralized feature whereas he can't control or ban it.

Add in Nigeria in the subject title, he (jack) did so on his twitter post, you should too (lol) as this goes to show the level of awareness bitcoin is having in the country.

Oops, Nigeria was there before but the thread wasn't getting as much traction as I wanted. But I've edited it back and it's cool now.

With this news, obviously he didn't just go to Nigeria without any purpose, I bet he's into something. He might also adopt blockchain or even with bitcoin on twitter. This will make it easier to promote bitcoin on twitter since the owner himself is into bitcoin, unlike facebook where there are a lot of toxic people.

Twitter has always been friendly to the crypto community. That's why we've Crypto Twitter. Talking about Jack Dorsey's visit to Nigeria. Yes, he's unto something. He met with tech leaders in the country. I think the bitcoin Meetup would be all about integrating Bitcoin to Nigeria's financial system. Flutterwave might play an instrumental role on that thanks to their payment gateway tech.

Its an open secret that Twitter CEO is a bitcoin enthusiast and having a meetup is not much of a biggie in my opinion. People have been having meetings, pep talks and even conferences about crypto in general across the globe for that matter and it didn't make news but since he is a celeb and a big fish everything he does becomes news. Anyways he banned crypto related adverts but that's a purely business decision which was needed because of the amount of damage people are doing so he is forgiven for that.

The signs keep popping up in more and more places. Be part of the opportunity or let it fast forward in front of your eyes. It is your sole decision if you want to embark on it or not.

I really respect Twitter's CEO initiative to take from his time to listen to what the public wants from the social mefia platform. TWTR needs to come with something big in order to keep the pace with FB and Instagram which had massive worldwide success besides Twitter which is only popular in USA.
It's a good sign to promote bitcoin and blockchain all at once. We really need this kind of effort all around the world to promote the innovative technology to the people who's not too familiar with the bitcoin and blockchain technology. I hope more people will see this and share too with their co-worker and friends.
These well known personalities really helped built up trust on Bitcoin other than serving as an advertisement for Bitcoin in order for the other people to know its existence. As we know, if you ever had told anyone about Bitcoin, some of them would be quiet skeptical about a cryptocurrency which doesn’t take a physical form and would label it as a scam without even trying to know more about it. But with these people who have huge credibility backing them then people might reconsider to rethink their prejudices and would come to a point to educatethemselves since the answers are just on the tip of their fingers.

Bitcoin founder look not happy with bitcoin as legal currency because we got bad experience with twitter owner have try banned bitcoin in twitter social media promoting, last years when google banned promote bitcoin, twitter allow the same way to banned promote bitcoin but now if twitter owner want to adopt bitcoin as legal currency become best solution for the future.

It is not clear if Satoshi, the bitcoin founder will feel terrible about these huge companies banning bitcoin as the article states that the CEO of Twitter is currently holding the only bitcoin from the enormous list of cryptocurrency. This will, in fact, lead to greater market adoption in Nigeria and other countries that are near. In addition, google added bitcoin information in their database such as this one: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=bitcoin

See Bitcoin is different from altcoins.
Twitter banned crypto ads because of the increasing ICO spam. Many used to be scam and fake projects and twitter had to safeguard its users from such scams. Therefore, the ban.
But Twitter was never against Bitcoin. Bitcoin doesn't need twitter advertisements and hence, was not affected by the ban. Such Bitcoinmeetup can help boost the adoption in a way of currency. How they can implement Bitcoin as a payment mechanism.

We are seeing a CEO of one of the biggest social media platforms that is supporting not only Bitcoin but blockchain and the crypto in general.

If this will continue, more and more countries will know more about Bitcoin. They are supporting the new digital currency that is emerging right now. They support the future currency.

If they will also consider using Twitter and find ways how to connect it in their social media platform like how Telegram and Facebook planning or they can partner together to create a better crypto platform that will accept crypto and use their token for something special like as token or etc. They can be a good tandem of influencers.

Seeing something like this gives me hope that very soon companies will come to the realization that blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies are the future of both the financial ecosystem and the entire universe. I just hope that this meetup will not be a normal linkup which does not bring anything that might influence the adoption of Bitcoin. But personally, I think such meetup has a good potential of influencing the adoption of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies..
All the companies in the world will accept that blockchain is the technology of the future and many big companies are doing research to come up with something that has real world usage and some of the companies have already adopted blockchain but they might not accept the currency aspect of bitcoin but blockchain is the future.
When you are talking about this meet up who knows what happened behind the scenes, i never heard that he had any meet up in the US but when he flew to Africa it became a big news  Grin. Unless there is something positive coming out i just consider it as a publicity stunt.

Sure he did and in fairness to him he's really into bitcoin, I mean not unlike of Mark Zuckerberg though I'm not against this but I feel so good upon knowing this. Imagine a big personality to support bitcoin all the way and not just after creating their own coin.

Twitter wants to tell the world that they will never be left in trends. I assure that few more years and even in months, they will create their own blockchain and tokens. Just like what facebook did in libra.

Few weeks ago I reported, Nigeria Naira becomes first Fiat currencies to be listed on Binance it got presume to mean nothing but this guys see something in NIGERIA many are yet to recognize. Very soon Nigeria will become a power nation in the cryptocurrency industry just as china and the rest are. We're already leading in the continent so with a little more Investment and attention plus the already existing enthusiast, we're bond for greatness.

His visit won't be much of a surprise as many recent stats have proven bitcoin is becoming a interesting search words in the country (meaning more individual are picking interest), just hoping the meetups will result in a collaboration to educating the citizens of the nation and Africa as large since he already has the platform because many enthusiast are getting mislead as MLM, Ponzi scheme projects etc are using the success of the currency to defraud many victims.

Recall that Twitter banned Crypto ads in 2018. Adoption is imminent? Let me hear your opinions!

@nelson4lov it’s an open secret that’s he’s a pro bitcoin enthusiast, and this meeting will only help bitcoins name to spread to the masses. I also feel it’s a veiled attack on Facebook Libra, as Twitter and Facebook CEO do not se eye to eye. Those ads which were banned were ICOs ads, and Bitcoin was never banned and it cannot be banned kindly study this so you don’t get confused again.

it is very important not to confuse things with each other and in bitcoin world people commonly do that! like confusing blockchain technology with bitcoin, what happens to altcoins with bitcoin,...
At least, half of the people mix both these words into one. For them, blockchain means bitcoin and cryptocurrency. In my local, govt have taken some steps to utilize blockchain technology but some people around here is thinking of bitcoin to be legal here.

in this case this news and those other similar platforms like facebook,... is being misinterpreted. they never had anything against "bitcoin" and never banned anything that involved "bitcoin". what they banned was all the ICO scams that were mainly happening during 2017 using these platforms to fool people that are not in bitcoin community and were unaware of the scam methods. and that needed to be stopped.
Was the ban for only ICO or over all the things related cryptocurrency including bitcoin. If I am correct the ban was for all the cryptocurrencies and related things.

in my opinion twitter will also adopt blockchain, of course he doesn't want to be left behind by other companies, as we know it Facebook plans to launch Libra, Telegram also plans to issue tokens, I think Twitter also doesn't want to waste an opportunity, hopefully that will be good news for bitcoin.
Twitter is different since they only want to support bitcoin or blockchain and still no plan to making thier own, if they do what will be the use of it?
Facebook trying to make thier own crypto currency libra but still under discussion if they can really make it since they plan to make it centralised.
Telegram is also different since they make an ICO which is one of the successful ICO and they raised $1B  but there are problem need to be solved before they can fully released it.

Despite the fact that he banned Bitcoin or crypto related before but still the price of Bitcoin continuously increasing as well as the demand. Still, he have seen the advantage of having a digital currency, for sure he has been a wise man and he managed to do research what are the advantage and benefit of having Bitcoin, why millions of people are engaged with this despite those restriction from other countries. He must realized it now which is a good thing.

It's a bit weird though, I'm pretty sure Twitter (or was it other social media platforms) banned crypto-ads, during 2017-2018, which was when there was a huge influx of crowdfunding projects, I don't think he's a fan of other crypto-currencies, only BTC.

It's not weird at all. Banning ICO ads (I'm pretty sure that's what the mainstream at that point) is necessary for a business to stay in check with the government.

I am sure he is looking for other possibilities, something to do with his own cryptocurrency like what Facebook did and now struggling to implement it 😀

Nah, he like Bitcoin. He's probably looking for another way to integrate Bitcoin to Twitter, or just simple chit chat to give some little push of confidence to the market.

Good initiative by one of the known bitcoin supporter in the world. He sure is helping bitcoin become more popular and get more mass adopted.

He is first a business man and what does a business man do? He searches for good investment opportunities.
Exactly.

~
As far as a I know bitcoin is legal there ~
It's still unregulated as an investment or an asset for trading but it's still not recognized as a legal tender by their central bank.

The CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, has been consistently vocal about his support for Bitcoin. The techy man must have seen the value of Bitcoin in today's and tomorrow's society. I am not just talking about the price but also the actual value that the technology provides to commerce.

This particular meetup is much appreciated especially because it is done in Africa. More often, technological advancements are focused in continents where development has already made great impact, and Africa is left behind.

The picture looks very exclusive and informal to me, probably in the house of one of the men in attendance. I also notice that there is no projector or even a laptop.

This proves that Bitcoin isn't going irrelevant, but rather gets more adopted everyday. Even tech giants' CEOs still continue to get involved and are positive about Bitcoin's future. I still believe we are still in the early stages of bitcoin and would soon reach the peak of the technology.

I think Libra set the pace for social media platforms to touch the cryptocurrency space. They made quite a buzz when they had announced Libra and possibly got the attention of other companies with their decisions.

Jack Dorsey has been very supportive of bitcoin ever since.

Jack Dorsey spends $10K a week on bitcoin, predicts a 'massive' bitcoin boom

So we shouldn't be surprised that he had this Bitcoin Meetup's. What's unexpected though, is why he chooses Nigeria? Is it because the country is one of the hottest country in Africa as far as bitcoin adoption goes? As far as a I know bitcoin is legal there so it makes sense for Jack to visit every country that fully embrace bitcoin and maybe this kind of effort will push bitcoin into mainstream.

Think this is probably one of the biggest CEO's/idols that are actively into crypto-currencies. If I remember correctly, his other company (Square) is also heavily invested into bitcoin, and he's seen pretty good profits from it as well.

He said it before that he holds bitcoin and it's the only crypto that he holds.

Jack Dorsey says the ‘only’ cryptocurrency he owns is bitcoin

And his other company, Square also into bitcoin. Those who bought there are now in profit.

He's really into bitcoin and doing the best that he can, yes adoption is imminent and he's contributing on it.
