That was a pretty obvious prediction. It is definitely smartest to make one currency for the world. Everything is balanced I think that the economy would be better.

But Bitcoin is already a global currency and can be used worldwide except the few countries where it's banned or being banned right now. And I do agree that Bitcoin could become more mainstream till 2018 but I don't think Bitcoin will be able to unite all nations into a whole and make them drop their local currencies in favor of Bitcoin becoming the world's most popular currency. But who knows maybe in an utopian future people will be living in a world where they will be trading with aliens on a daily basis and they will be using Earth credits to do business like it's usually depicted in some of today's sci-fi movies  Cheesy Future money will be digital that's for sure and old stores of value like precious metals and paper money will be a thing of the past.

I hope that happens, it would be nice to see bitcoin as a global currency. It would be easier to use in buying something and im sure that it will get bitcoin's price to rise dramatically. I would love to see that happen.  Grin

I really think you could wait way beyond 2018 to see bitcoin becoming a global currency in the sense they really want.

But, I can tell you man, that our bitcoin is right now a global currency. I used it from New York to London, from Amsterdam to Paris.

The global currency I fear is the one issued centrally by the FED, the ECB etc.

So that's not bitcoin case.

Nobody will let a decentralized currency to become THE global currency without government control.

But yes, there will be a global currency that will replace all the national currencies.

It`s not going to happend in 2018,maybe 20 years later....

Well in a way I guess it could have been a logical prediction at the time, but considering today's political and economic standings this is definitely not something that looks like it will roll around in 2 years, especially if Donald Trump was to become president. China is valuing their Yuan, there are a bunch of changes going on amid the EU and a lot of countries throughout the world are changing in one way or the other, and because of this such a prediction seems illogical now. Maybe there will be one in the future, but it seems like the article literally just decided that it'll be 30 years from [current year].

Very interesting, considering where things are going, I wonder if this currency will be Bitcoin. 2 years from now is a short time, but by then we should have Lightning Network working nicely delivering worldwide volume transactions that would allow for constant global usage, so I wonder if Bitcoin can become a global currency in 2018 (it already is a global currency... I mean in a more mainstream way)
