We're working hard on a production prototype and we're making good progress. As soon as I have something more concrete to show, I'll post here.

During Liberty Forum 2013 the first Bitcoin ATM was used. Even though I live in New Hampshire (Free State Project!) I didn't get to go to Liberty Forum this year. None the less I know many individuals that used the Bitcoin ATM and said it worked great by using a live connection to Mt.Gox. Here are a few articles:

Enjoy

Where can I get them and when are they available?  I'll buy three.

If they intend to sell the bitcoin ATMs to businesses that accept bitcoin; won't it make a bit of a mockery of bitcoins.

Shop Owner: We accept bitcoins. By the way, you can also send money to your family in Mexico by using BTC.
Customer: Oh really?  Where do I get them?
Shop Owner: Over there at that machine

FTFY

Will the ATMs accept food stamps then?

Shop Owner: Over there at that machine
Customer: ...goes over, puts in cash, gets bitcoins on his phone, waits for confirmations, walks up cashier and transfers bitcoins, more waiting...
Shop Owner: ...then walks over and takes the cash out of ATM and send the bitcoins back to Lamassu...

*High five each other*..."Yay we used bitcoins"

Sounds like a monty python bit

I agree, for this purpose it doesn't seem to be very practical. I can imagine that this machine is great for money transfer companies though, who can either use it to wire money to other offices across the world, or can sell bitcoins in places where people would otherwise have trouble obtaining bitcoins.

And here's a link to the Bitcoin ATM Website:

http://.com/
Uhmm... you're joking, right?

That is not THE Bitcoin ATM website,
it's just A Bitcoin ATM website
and it's completely unrelated to the product/project on those news-links.

Thanks, lassdas. I was in a hurry to post this and grabbed a link I was looking at in place of the correct one. ShireSilver gave the one I meant to put up.

I used the machine and was suitably impressed.

I'm sure the dubious website is not the website of the Bitcoin ATM at the liberty forum.  The bitcoin ATM at the liberty forum was a prototype.  So if someone tries to sell you an ATM it might be a scam.  The prototype was made by Zach Harvey, as the other articles state.  Josh and Matt were very important for technical support and it couldn't have been done with out Matt's programing, and Josh's work with the hardware.

I found this article through BitcoinX the other day.
I was wondering what the incentive for a retailer would be to BUY one of these instead of getting paid to let someone put it in their store.
