When you talk about the future of Bitcoin, you are talking about the whole context. And it cannot be represented by one particular institution. Bitcoin is vast and can be owned by any individual without meddling in Brooklyn affairs. How will the bitcoin academic launch in Brooklyn affect Bitcoin's future at large?

Ideally, that's what we hope for, for every country to have an awareness of curriculum-based education that provides a portion of Bitcoin learning. But you need to know, each country has its own educational principles that are tailored to the needs and goals of achieving education in that country. When the understanding portion of the intellectual community has no interest in Bitcoin, it will be useless if what was done in Brooklyn is implemented in other countries.

The founder of financial tech company Block Inc., Jack Dorsey announced he is collaborating with the rapper Jay-Z by launching a Bitcoin Academy in Brooklyn. The Bitcoin Academy’s mission aims to empower and provide education to the region. The project’s website further details that residents of Marcy House, located in Brooklyn, New York will be eligible for free courses and other benefits like internet data plans.
I think this is the motivation we need to help create awareness in their various countries and educate our people on the benefits of cryptocurrencies.
Thoughts?

I think there are already very different ways for interested people to learn about cryptocurrency. All you need to do is show interest and a desire to learn.

It's a very small step in the right direction. However I think that a more general financial training center, maybe with bitcoin playing a bigger part of the curriculum, would be more beneficial for the people who might be attending. It takes money to make money sort of thing, what good is bitcoin education if you do not have the foundational blocks of training in all kinds of other finances. There are many ways to lose money in the world which people need to be aware of and it might not always be taught well at school.
I kinda like the idea of a financial training center with Bitcoin trading being the most important part of the curriculum like you said.
It's obviously not logical to teach a course without showing or illustrating how it can be applied in the real world.
Bitcoin trading is just a part, the main centric objective is the elimination of the intermediary. Through the academy this needs to be educated than the trading, because this is the reason for which Satoshi innovated bitcoin. In my understanding bitcoin trading is important for the market progress and circulation. Apart, it has gained more importance through different reasons. One of which is the limited supply which has the ability to resist inflation against the infinite printing of currency.

"Jack Dorsey and Jay-Z Launch Bitcoin Academy" That's cute!!! Although this name is ambiguous and I do not know what exactly they teach, but in my opinion this is good, it is good that famous people like Jack Dorsey and Jay-Z teach Bitcoin because people are very influenced by famous personalities in society, despite some skeptics who say that the two men They seek to get money through the academy, but this does not matter because the most important thing is to spread the knowledge about Bitcoin in the community.

Rather educate people on the wider scope that is economics (that crypto is a part of), they choose to set up something that you would allready have to know about to to even consider participating. But ok, there are positives to this and this is a praiseworthy project, but we also need to chill abit with all this talk that we 'must educate the masses on this secrete knowlage, because without it, they are but sheep led...'. Crypto is starting to sound like a religion and people take on themselves to propagate the gospel without taking into account that crypto tech as well as it's philosophy has not yet evolved to the point where such widespread addoption could and should be done. I don't know why the notion of gradual and natural evoulution has been thrown out the window and in a decade we have gone from the crypto stone age to people shooting lazers from their eyes...

That's a good news for the community as this means wider Availability of knowledge among people. Also this will make the knowledge in cryptospace slightly more organized and institutionalized. Till now the knowledge has only been in informal way. This will obviously bring in good projects which provide better solutions using the blochchain technology as a whole

I will say this is adding to the adoption process which is good, it will contributes to helping people knowing about bitcoin, the bitcoin wallet and everything needed to know to make and receive bitcoin transaction. If some people are knowing about bitcoin already and telling others as well as helping them, the more the adoption in my opinion.

The bitcoin future is not dependent on any single entity giving out teaching lessons to masses about btc.The world is itself realising the importance of btc with many adopting it and others who fear it try to snub it without any end results.

There are lot of books available regarding bitcoin so do they influence the btc future ahead on the global level? No single institution have that control over Bitcoin so that's all bullshit on which we should not focus.

Lol. Silly title op. You do realise that NY is anti-crypto, don't you? They recently announced some sort of mining ban too. This particular scheme is just designed to help idiots like Jay Z and Dorsey get richer and richer basically.

Crap like this won't help BTC and the cryptocurrency market in the long-term. My advice for you is to stop being so naive op.

How it can be said as a future while it's just only for a one region? moreover Bitcoin academy or course isn't nothing new anymore, many university already add cryptocurrency as a subject especially on the economic or digital related degree. Some country who already accept Bitcoin as a legal tender e.g. El Salvador and Central African Republic are really the future of Bitcoin since it's prove Bitcoin can be used as a currency.

In Short: We may share information in specific situations described in this section and/or with the following third parties.

We may need to share your personal information in the following situations:

Educating people about bitcoin doesn't really need a special place and time, unless they actually get you somewhere as an object of promotion (and that's the point). In fact, this forum has been a free bitcoin educational resource and no annoying offer ads for years but sadly it's not really being noticed.

Binance already made that and is accessible online.

I don't know how this will end but whenever such news that related to the adoption of bitcoin, it's positive to me and to the others I guess. We already know that Jack has been on the crypto and is positive with its future and potential.

This is just like walking the talk to support what he's said before.

Idk the topic of Bitcoin only seems kind of, small-ish? If you consider the amount of information behind it. It may not even fill a one-year course for it, except maybe if you added lessons not only about Bitcoin but also about the basics of economics, finance, and stuff like that. Though in that case, it'd be more of a finance-centered course and Bitcoin would be like a subcourse included in it. It feels more like a series of seminars and talks rather than a class though. Might just be me.

I'm hopeful they add about the coding and development of the backend part though.

On another note — while this is getting positive attention from the Bitcoin/crypto community, a lot of the masses are definitely not happy with this. They're so mad as if Jay-Z and Dorsey are asking money for this. https://twitter.com/sc/status/1534921133199347712
There will be a side story for every things, the opposites and those who agree.

I have some concerns about the said academy;
  • What will they teach in the academy? Will they teach the original purpose and concept of bitcoin. Or they will rather use it to promote their personal brand and in the end it will become an investment scheme. We have seen similar academies that didn't live upto expectations.
Now, that's a bit advance claim, let them do it first before saying anything. Those who founded the academe knows a lot why their doing it, and they know how hype and negative things can affect someone business in crypto.

  • Who are the teachers or resource persons.
Check their website, they already have some list who have already names in the community.

Like any other academy you cant just hire someone who doesnt have any firm knowledge on what the academe stand for and what are subjects need to teach. This is not just a blog written by an amateur writer who was paid to write words about how-tos and whatnot.

In the grand scheme of things, it won't change much. You'd need thousands of Bitcoin academies across the world to improve Bitcoin education globally. And even then, it's not guaranteed to be a major success. It's not like there's a lot of people who want to learn about Bitcoin but can't - all the information is available on the Internet for free.
Com'on they just have their first step, why always get bitter for new things? Of course it needs lots of schools/academy to make it work, but when and how you will start? You cant just make lots of schools on your first attempt, you always need at least one to make it work.

thats why i imagine the only way a academy can even try to be successful is if the classes were about actual skills and knowledge that can be used to gain employment whereby passing the class had either atleast a guaranteed job interview with a sponsoring employer, or the certificate of completing the course had some meaning to it because it actually means people know enough to do a job in the sector. then people might be willing to take the class.

a 'participation' medal is not as meaningful as a 'top of the class' in a skilled activity medal

When something is predicted to be long lasting and has got the ability to make changes to the current system, automatically people will find way to make business out of it. One such try is the educational academy in Brooklyn by Dorsey and Jay-Z. People who are new to the market will surely think of having a course. Maybe such people can get attention towards these academy. Satoshi found a way to eliminate the intermediary involved in the financial system, and now the same is being introduced in the form of providing education at a cost.

Establishing a bitcoin academy is undoubtedly a very nice initiative and will definitely enhance bitcoin adoption in that region. But I must be honest with you, the topic seems exergerated.

I have some concerns about the said academy;

  • Who are the teachers or resource persons. It is better to allow someone learn something naturally than teaching the person wrong thing. It is easier to learn than to unlearn before learning. I said so because I learnt some nonsense from high profile people that claimed to be bitcoiners and when I discovered here, it took me time to unlearn those nonsense

Good initiative! But I believe the impact will be more if crypto focused courses can be provided here instead of just focusing to bitcoin related courses. Blockchain could be an attractive addition to their curriculum as well where budding programmers will get education.

Good education can have great impact on anything and education about cryptocurrencies is the need of the hour. Not only for the programmers but also for those people who are skeptical about the cryptocurrency, can also be benefitted here.

critics happen more when the publishers are vague about detail.

EG if an article mentions famous people names multiple times, but does not even mention the lesson plan/curriculum of what people will get to learn specifically. in a topic about a school.. then ofcourse its going to leave people wondering many things.

EG lets make an imaginary article: 'housing school funded by elon musk, elong musk elon musk"

is this about teaching the homeless how to find housing, is it a school about architecture/construction of housing. is it a real estate scheme, teaching people how to invest in housing? who knows

i had a look at the bitcoin academy website. .. and not impressed.
they have a huge logo and brand lettering requiring you to scroll more then a whole screen length..
but the explanation of the class is literally a couple sentances that dont explain the class content
then its another large screen space of scrolling displaying famous names and foundations involved

so when the topic of a forum post embellishes "the future of bitcoin" (a world wide currency) but is actually about a small classroom.. in a underprivileged neighbourhood of one american city, it just leaves too much to the imagination without filling the topic with content/substance

Lol what do you mean? Educational content like this are undoubtedly great, but how does it "set" Bitcoin's future? Whatever you meant by it.
It doesn't. Although, if you want to put bums on feet, you probably are going to write up sensationalist titles like this. That's the way of the world unfortunately.

Yeah, anything that anyone tries to do is always faced with criticism by someone. You can't please everyone. I'm rather neutral, I think the event isn't going to be much bigger than the ones that came before it.

i would love to see great curriculum courses that teach practical things that can be put towards experience and knowledge that can gain employment.

beyond the basics of how to install a wallet and buy coin. i would love to see this as a economics, business studies, coding/computer science courses. you know.. actual skilled education

i would also love to see this being like a entry into employment by these famous individuals as the employers, where they are seeking employee's and looking at those that pass the course as recruits into the famous peoples bitcoin operations/businesses

i hope this is not just a 15minutes of fame of name association where the only actual service provided is a day course on wallet set-up

Firstly i don't think it's necessary painting almost all the text bold before we can read and understand what the message is passing across, regarding the collaboration of Jack Dorsey and Jay Z i want to believe this isn't the first time many of the celebrities will be showing interest in partnership with bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies just to feature their showcase to the world, this they think their influence can make a difference but the people got the real logic behind their reasonable doubts, most celebrities take such advantage to make their earnings as i never see anyone making donations or charity to help boost adoption, that's why you see stuffs like this receiving much critics than it should be appreciated, well it will do good to an extent in helping the Brooklyn domains.

so looking at the website
Quote
teach you about Bitcoin, how it works, why you should care, and how to build your own financial future.

seems vague. so what exactly are they actually teaching.
EG the "what is bitcoin how it works"
is it how to use a wallet + exchange. or the coding of bitcoin
- meaning are they schooling people on how to use a website to buy bitcoin.
- or are they going to go into actual detail that can be useful information for people to maybe get detailed experience to then find employment with a blockchain employer

EG the "how it works, why you should care"
is it again using a wallet and why you should secure your wallet
- meaning basic schooling on how to save money for rainy days and not lose it through silly mistakes
- or are they going to go into deep economics theory of fiat inflation vs bitcoin deflation.

i say this because if its just a intro into how to buy bitcoin. this may not be as helpful as teaching real economics, coding and business lessons that can help people gain employment in the sector.

EG difference between telling people how to hide their excess social security/unemployment payments in bitcoin.. rather than real education of economics and business studies that can help them seek employment
