Cryptocurrency is representing a dream...a dream when we can get away from the control, power and influence of the government most especially with finance and economy. This includes minimizing the control of central banking on matter on matters of policies and economic direction.

However, correct me if I am wrong, the battle has not yet started and it looks we the many Bitcoin or crypto enthusiasts are on the losing side. We have just witnessed how a single pronouncement or a news can drastically affect the value of the Bitcoin market.

Now, what would happen if many of the big governments would one day declare Bitcoin to be illegal? Will it mean that realistically it is the government who is winning in this battle? Or is there really a battle in the first place?

Tell me your convictions and dreams regarding Bitcoin.
We are really on the losing side, some of the post that I have read earlier said that bitcoin core developers somehow continue to upgrade without considering the concerns of the community, I forgot the name of the poster but that's the thought of what the poster said. I think bitcoin core developers is trying to control the bitcoin. That's my opinion and speculation and i am sorry if this sounds rude, please do correct me if i'm wrong.

The government essentially gets to control our fiat money through Central Banks (well, technically it's an entity higher than the government). While the government can't directly influence or print more Bitcoins on demand like they can with Fiat money, they can definitely regulate the crap out of it.

We could be taxed for purchases in the future, or entrepreneurship/contracts could be limited without reporting, etc.

The reality is that Bitcoin is increasing in value, while the economy is experiencing serious credit bubble issues. Depending on the cryptocoins that win out in the next 5-10 years maybe the government will adopt Ripple or another crypto and change the perspective of everything.

Whatever happens, the government won't be winning. The people will be !

I have noticed in the last couple of weeks several "end of bitcoin" news articles coming out from left leaning main stream media. This is something I have not seen before as usually FUD is buried deep in the cryto news networks. Something about this is troubling me now that front page in my local news says "is this the end of bitcoin?". I get the feeling there is a growing force out there (governments) to undermine bitcoin and devalue it to zero.

The government might not win because of many people that already put a lot of efforts, money and etc for cryptocurrency. "In cryptocurrency, we trust." Do that and probably you can erase from your mind that bitcoin will lose and government will win.
well it is not happening because the government is not doing anything for the betterment of the people but the bitcoin is now anonymous and if the people become anonymous they will not be able to know who is using bitcoin and where bitcoin is being use the one thing that bitcoin will show to the government is the growing price and the value of the bitcoin so no one can beat bitcoin ever.

it sounds ridiculous. The government depends on the citizen. How can the government win in the battle without any support from the people? You are wrong. Even they can ban cryptocurrency or bitcoin, they can not make it weaker at all. it will continue to grow and prove to the people that it can make the world better. So, do not rely on the government and do not trust anything that they say.

50 years of communism tell another story.
70 or so years of NK history also might tell you are the one that is wrong about this.

In extreme situation the government will be able to ban everything.
Don't compare the prohibition with bitcoin.

Everyone could make their own home made brew, nobody can alone buy and sell bitcoins and transfer them without a second person and the infrastructure.

But a ban will not happen. Never.
And pray that there won't be one.

The government and banks will win, once it is legalized and taxed. That is there only source of income out of it.

Currently they are losing money since most cryptocoins are undeclared and untraceable.

First and foremost, any sane government in her right sense of mind will not declare bitcoin illegal but probably introduce a strict policy for control in its usage to reduce illegal activities by its users. If a government declares bitcoin illegal today, give them time and see if they won't be compelled to come around.  Moreover, nothing good comes to stay without a battle. Bitcoin is obviously stepping on toes and will step on more, but all these won't be a huge problem for bitcoin as far as I am concerned.

I don't see any battle that is going on, so losing is not yet realized, it is normal for any tradings drastic effects on any news due to peoples reaction and not the governments faults or any. you are free to Use bitcoin nothing can stop you

How can you say such thing so confidently? I would suggest that you have to trust no one but yourself. Those efforts that they've done has nothing to do with those people who've corrupt intentions. Cryptocurrencies are just mere tools, the users are the problems here. You see, the reputation of these coins are being tainted by these people that they were saying that this coins are just scams and eventually the government will have to take action to it making in banned. Although in fact that it is just misunderstanding.

In my own opinion, it is not the government that scares cryptocurrency. China banned ICO because there are lits if scammers out there. I have recently joined a social media group of bitcoin earners and as what I had found out 99% of it are all scam! Since bitcoin became popular and the price gets high, people became so greedy that they are willing to trade their soul just to own a bitcoin.
However, I know this is not the end of bitcoin world. These are just one of the trials that bitcoin has to face. Bitcoin have come this far and surely it will never give up just like that.

the government can not do anything since bitcoin is nearly anonymous and if the users choose to become anonymous to the government, they can never know who use bitcoin. The only thing that the government can do is to slow the process of being a world currency of bitcoin. The number of people using bitcoin is increasing day by day and therefore, no one can ban it right now
not entirely anonymous, there have been multiple big cases of an address and coins being linked to specific individuals, such as the case with the silk road founder ross ulbricht. remember, everything you do regarding bitcoin, weather it be receiving or sending, all transactions are stored and viewable on the blockchain. as long as you've put your identity out there with any transaction, your identity is now tied to that address, and if there were multiple inputs in the transaction, your entire wallet's addresses could be linked back to you. of course, i dont think anyone should ever be interested in going so far to track a person's addresses down, but if someone's got the time and effort to put into it, its more than possible.

Here is the thing. The moment governments ban something, it goes underground. In most countries unemployment is high

and economies are struggling. When the economy struggle, tax income is low. So it is in their best interest to keep Bitcoin

legal. {they will regulate it to death though} Bitcoin stimulate innovation and create job opportunities for 1000s of people.

Once it goes underground, all that tax income is gone.  Wink

The crypto currency system is far away from being a secure one...tons of scams happening and so on...no wonder the chinese banned the use of ICO in their country. The current system that we are living in is broken and corrupt as we all know it but we must be very carefull if we are going to replace it with another like bitcoin...we must assure that we dont trade a corrupt system for another.
With decentralization comes a big responsability. As most of you already know by now, bitcoin transactions are irreversible so no charge backs or refunds can take place. So you really have to make sure you want to send the money before you actually do so. That's the main problem that occurs when people use bitcoin. Just because there are scammers out there doesn't mean that the system is corrupt. If you send money to a scammy ico or fall for a scam it's 100% your fault because you signed the transaction to the scammer's address. That's the harsh truth that comes with decentralization.
but we cant deny the fact that there's a lots of complain that's why the government needed to take some actions but moving back to
the principle bitcoin/crypto currency was  originally designed for its decentralization purposes so government should not be there
to interfere.

but it can not be denied, the government can intervene (in certain countries) bitcoin and altcoin more broadly. for example China forbids its citizens to follow ICO.

This is true, it cant be denied as government cant do anything with this as many people are now supporting cryptos.

No, sorry but I want to disagree with you because the government is the voice of the people and its sovereign power lies on the decisions of the people. There is no government if not for its people, so despite the regulations, I still think that crypto can still flourish because the people want and need it. The government just wants to make money so they impose taxes so that they can generate revenue
