You proposal is for Jr. Members and upwards according to what you state, but then you contradict the terms by indicating that it would be useful for beginners and newcomers.

Regardless, your proposal would only enable test passing users to earn 1 sMerit according to your basis. Limited circular questions would no doubt lead to the questions being listed and published somewhere, and to become accessible beforehand to anyone with a bit of wits in them.

Best case scenario, everyone would earn 1 sMerit, making “1 the new 0”.

Can’t see the point of it.

Well, if everything rests on merit, let's exclude this compound!
And we will do differently the beginner can not write messages until the moment the test passes, I understand that it is possible to write bots to train a neural network .... but there is clearly more people who want to understand what is crypto world, but in an forum i see spam and spam
That's fine at least somehow they something learn! And they will not create the 20 post by asking the same thing! Why the contradiction because it's a sketch

First is merit to ensure everybody will post quality lines, and spammers will not rank up their account now we have board exam to earn merit, but I don't hate the idea it self, since you can only join once and get merit depends on your test results, I guess it fine to test how far you've learn also on the forum.

The idea sucks. You see, many people join the forum exactly to learn about crypto, Blockchain and kinds of businesses about all of that which can bring money. Well, I was such user. Before to join the forum I only heard about bitcoin and how much it is possible to earn on it's trading. Almost all of my first comments is just asking what and how, and I guess there are many users like me here.
I suppose such testing as you offer can awake new wave of forum's 'criminal', which is happening about Merit currently, I mean: trading of merit, creating groups which send merit to each other and so on.
Well, it's logical to write 900 posts in 2 months to ask? Here is an example that I encountered and that this information is useful to think about?
https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/inbizin-1416871

I'm not talking about in-depth knowledge, I'm talking about the initial knowledge that is needed
The idea to forbid to newbies and Jr. members to start new threads on the forum is more attractive to me. Someone suggested it long time ago. The point is to stay away from repeating of noob topics over and over again, coz that's what almost all newbies do. They are too lazy to surf the forum to see replies on all possible questions about crypto, instead they start a thread "what is bitcoin?" again and again; that makes the forum trashy. So the time while they can not start a new thread can be used for reading and introducing with the forum.

*Just saying, I know all of us have our own businesses to attend to. But I'm seeing more members are engaged in flaming than helping.

I think I have seen an ICO with this type of concept I forget whats the project's name. Its an e-course to all cryptocurrency things. Not sure if the project was successful.

That's because new members are constantly opening the same topics for the 20th time, showing that they're not going through older topics unleast on the second page and that can get annoying.

I took this course, taught by a member of this forum, found it pretty good.  Smiley

I'm not against this system and the system of ranks that was. I also love history, and your system of ranks and the addition that you made with merit began to resemble a bourgeois system.

Jesus Christ. Stop being a drama queen. Do you people even have any idea how ridiculous you sound? Oh, merit is for the bourgeois. Merit is like Hitler. Merit is like Stalin. Merit is fascism. Merit is Animal Farm. Merit broke my life. Stop crying. Merit is to reward quality posts and to try curb the thousands of shitposters that sign up here purely to spam their way through ranks by writing nothingness. What does having to acquire merit have to do with capitalism or anything else? All it is is shitposters crying that they now can't easily earn money straight away by posting barely coherent guff.

Yes Yes, all the bad man you are good man!
I that beg you for something!?
I suggested that people make some effort to read and respond to the questions they did some kind of action and did not write 1000 posts for 4 months
If you are satisfied with writing 1000 messages, then I will close this topic !?

What you suggest is a kind of an exam, like in the school or college, and i think it is a boring way. This is a forum, not a class, and people studying rate is different from each other, so you can not make an examination like that. Not to mention people can abuse many accounts to enter that exam. But the most funny thing is that if the newbie really studying about the basic of blockchain and bitcoin until he got to Jr. Member, i guess he/ she can score 1 merit, without the system you suggested in OP.

Words from Lenin's book : Reforms are those changes that do not take away power in the state from the hands of the old ruling class. Changes of the opposite nature are called "storm". The class interests of bourgeois liberalism require only reforms, for the bourgeoisie is afraid of "storms" more than the reactions, the bourgeoisie wants to preserve the old, feudal institutions for protection against the workers. I'm not saying that the new member should be ignored and whatnot, just that when you see someone talking about blockchain, and let's say you don't what it is, you'd be going to youtube, google articles,etc.. and read about it. Higher member have their own business to go about, that's why there's beginners & help section.

So as I've said, there can be an online course made, that would actually be really cool, to make like shortened edition on what crypto is, what blockchain is, how does it work,etc... but I don't know how that could relate to the forum, where people with pre-knowledge come to discuss or new people who come, learn and then can discuss. You're here because of yourself, why should anyone be holding your hand and lead you if you can't do it on your own.

This forum is not a school, merit is not grades, legendary members aren't teachers. People should be here, and learn about btc/blockchain,etc.., because of themselves.

Tho, nothing's stopping you from starting a bitcoin/crypto/blockchain/etc online course or something, that would actually be pretty nice.

I don't really agree with these. Although, newbies should always take initiative to learn things. Older members should always be helpful and friendly to the new ones. I do agree that this forum is not a school, but older members should guide those who don't know anything.

Merit on the other hand, well. As you can see, a lot of people now are trying too hard to get some creating random gibberish threads.  Sad

I've actually got a teamspeak server, and I toyed with the idea of using it for chat sessions, but I decided it would probably be abused.

It might be interesting to have a chat with a few of the merit awarders though. Smiley

Honestly newbies need to realize that high ranking members put in a great amount of work over the months and even years to get to the level that they are today. With all this merit blah blah blah, seems like new comers want a fast route to the top. If it were so or that easy, everyone would be doing it. It's hard yes!!! Hard work pays off.

This is a different issue, and many of us think that bounty and alt spammers should be banned. The merit system was introduced to try to diminish their impact on the more serious boards. Trying to force them to learn about Bitcoin is unlikely to have any effect on them or their behaviour.

We all know what merit is and what smerit is. We also need to know the history of bitcoin, or at least the concept of what the blockchain is and the rules of bitcointalk ..
For this I propose

To pass the test on knowledge (bitcoin, blockchain, cryptocurrencies, the blockchain history, the rules of bitcointalk ..... )
The number of questions from 10-20
Test time 30 minutes
You can take the test once, for one account
Participate in the test can:
1) Account must be older than 3 months
2) a Participant should be rank not below Jr. Member

For passing this test the participant will be credited 2-5 merit points depending on the received result

Questions will be generated randomly (out of N number of questions)

Why it will be useful:
This will give beginners and experienced users a basic knowledge of the crypto world.
Will give the newcomers the opportunity to earn legal merit.

What is needed:
For this project needs participation of the staff forum for providing Merit!!
Initiative group, for writing service on a third-party platform or implementation in the forum itself!
Create a test and documentation for it to study!
Translations of tests into different languages, or do all the questions in English !

I hope this offer will appeal to admins of the forum!

All this will do is create yet another market for abuse and Services popping up offering to take the merit test for you or supply you with all the answers. Just earn the merit like everyone else does by making quality contributions.
To do this, you need to do on the forum itself, so that the user passes this test in the profile, this way not everyone comes to provide information account
For new users it to be interesting, and merit are not so big, so much to think of them admins

You don't at all. People will just offer the Services off site anyway. In fact, people will probably just put all the answers on a website or blog so they can easily be found by googling and that at least will get them some free traffic. This isn't going to work and almost certainly won't be implemented.

It seems like people are thinking of every other method of getting merits to jump-start their new accounts (read farming account rings, shhhhh).

I know. If these people spent more time putting effort into their posts than dreaming up harebrained schemes for alternative ways to acquire merit they'd probably already have the merit by now.

Yes, I do not exclude the chance of abuse
Well, we must also think about those who came to this world crypto, learn and study. As when we went to school and got knowledge!
And do not just write pointless posts
This test, we will stimulate so that people who want to know what the crypto world is
Who was the founder, how everything originated in the crypto, what rules are there at the forum, everything will depend only on your knowledge that you received for all time and what will be your result and reward

So anyway, I applied as a merit source :)
It seems like people are thinking of every other method of getting merits to jump-start their new accounts (read farming account rings, shhhhh).

Lets take a look at the different method of pseudo-merit begging which has happened in this forum in the last 2.5 months post-introduction of merit system:

1. Merit trading which was too obvious and got negged by DT. Some of which are still being debated.

2. Idiotic threads in the tech and meta section popping up since DannyHamilton prefers to merit those threads which are according to his policy Blah Blah Blah and the shitposters mob ran to these sections without even knowing the reason why these sections exist.

3. Ass-licking the merit system and merit sources.

4. Nail in the coffin - a test for newbies to get merits while getting into the forum.

Damn you guys forgot the reason why merit was created in the first place. Roll Eyes
