I accept as true with you but I do not think the internet is often decentralized it's never possible It remains under the control of the govt and is centralized it'll be better for us if the internet becomes very controlled. many of us use the internet for bad purposes and if the internet becomes controlled then the quantity of those will decrease. In today's age of technology everything is completed through the internet Without the internet many things wouldn't be possible So albeit the internet is controlled, we've to use it.

I think is not so bad when internet is regulated. Because when you use internet for good purposes, then you have nothing to fear. Ofcourse if you trolling in the internet, buying drugs or something else, then it’s not going to end well for you. So, just use internet in good purposes

This isn't what we're talking about. We're not going to do anything bad on the Internet. We're talking about free speech and free information. I would like to have a fully decentralized Internet to eliminate censorship as in IPFS, but unfortunately we have seen the opposite movement lately.

Oh, so you'd want all trolls to be punished. You talk like a typical authoritarian. Everything has to be regulated, there has to be law for everything and breaking this law will be punished.
How would you punish a troll who writes stupid things in the Internet co provoke people? How would you punish someone who bought drugs for himslef to forget about the harsh reality of his poor life? Put them in jail maybe?
Who is to decide what is that good purpose? You? A bunch of old guys in suits?

Neither TOR nor VPN will help us if the government has access to almost any servers (even foreign ones) and simply removes information that is not convenient for them very quickly, especially if this information concerns exposing their illegal activities.

Tor works when used correctly. And that means, no servers outside of Tor. As long as people think Tor is some sort of cloak for them to keep using the normal internet, chances are high they will make mistakes.

But if you put your server, forum whatever as a hidden service (so called .onion address) ONLY, then there is nothing to fear if you have the common sense of never using details that could help others track you down.

So the answer is simple: Help populate the Tor network and forget about the normal internet. You don't have to run an exit node, in fact you should NOT run an exit node (your IP will get blacklisted into oblivion). Being a bridge (published or not) is perfectly fine.

We can neither change the things on the governmental level, nor put up with it. Using VPN and dark web browsers is the perfect solution. More and more people realize it now so VPN usage rose rapidly in many countries during Coronavirus lockdowns.

They don't have to regulate the Internet. How can we tell this? Because4 the Coronavirus pandemic is a real pandemic, but they have no REAL proof for Cornavirus. All the deaths are from the flu, pneumonia, and other causes... but not Coronavirus.

So, why would they need to control the Internet? because people believe them better just watching TV. The Internet control idea is simply a distraction.

Use TOR so you can get complete privacy on your surfing history and no one can ever trace you for posting anything. Cheesy

Its very easy to hide your identity on internet.

There's really a lot of censorship, that is why some people love who loves decentralization likes to be in the dark web, Vpn and creating a fake account now is the only way if you are going to go against the government, we just hope that the VPN that we are using will not be sold to the government to access our accounts.

I totally agree with the TS. If 5 years ago a person could quietly express his negative thoughts about the work of the government, today few people are ready to do it without the use of TOR or VPN, as it is already possible to get criminal penalties. Today we see censorship not only on TV, radio, but also on the Internet.

The Safenetwork is working on a solution for this. I think regulation to some degree is okay however it seems that things that should get regulated (such as how Google handle your information) is often overlooked.

Have you noticed that almost all sites started to implement kyc / aml , eu cookies junk, cops started to arrest people for saying stuff on facebook or other social networks ,websites are getting shut down by govs and so on ...

the internet is becoming very very regulated ,how do we fix it ?

In my opinion we got to find a way to decentralize the internet ... anyone started working on this ?

there is ipfs ,swarm but still ...

Indeed, the problem is the governments, who have managed to gain control over the Internet.

A place that was safe to give your opinion, has now become a place where you can be arrested for giving your opinion.

Sometimes you don't want to go anonymously, and for saying things contrary to the government of your country they close down your facebook, your youtube channel or your twitter. and I'm talking about western countries like Spain

There are ways in making yourself can anonymous in the i internet free from regulations and prying eyes and that is Tor, vpn and a decentralize domain names. So even if the country's internet provider censored the site that you wanted to visit, you can still access it.
Like what happened to china where the government controlled people's internet and what sites to visit.

Use VPN and TOR browser. You are done!

It will give you an extra layer of security from displaying your identity over the internet. Ideally TOR browser alone can fix this but just to add a new layer, you can use a multi-city VPN. That's simple!

However, I don't personally support illegal things done on the internet!

I'm also using this it's safe secured and you can access sites that your country restricted, there are cheap VPN and if you have OPERA installed you have a free VPN that you can use, I also recommend to everyone that you use VPN, there's always a risk of your information leaked and of course hackers targeting you.

vpn isn't the solution ,i remember back in 90's - 2000's  , it wasn't like this ...the internet was similar to the dark web back then ,now it just lost it's beauty , you had the freedom to do anything on the internet ...remember mirc,icq,quake,e-gold,age of empires, odc++,google was a real search engine back then etc ...fun days

We don't have to fix it because it is our option to use the internet or not. If we want to use the internet, we need to know the risk, and we know how to prevent something wrong that can happen to us. As what @avikz say, you can use VPN or TOR which can hide your identity or your ISP, but you still need to be careful. As long as we don't break anything by doing illegal things, we will be okay.

Back when cellphones first came out, you could talk to your neighbor over them just like a walkie-talkie. I think you can still get apps that let you do this.

Why not run the Internet through the computers of private people? People here and there have powerful computers set up (voluntarily) to forward and receive Net requests from around the world, through a network of the computers of everyone who uses the Net.

Maidsafe tried to do this. And maybe they are still trying. They had a way of "chunking" your requests so that nobody could tell you were the one that was requesting. Yet the requested material finally would get back to you... all through people who left their computers turned on, and linked directly to their neighbors... who would be linked to other neighbors... until the who world was connected through neighbors.

I think there is nothing we can do to overcome the problem that you tell...
since the corona outbreak is spreading, the internet is being watched to prevent hoaxes from spreading and I support it, hoaxes will only make panic more. There is no problem with the internet regulated IMO.
