An astronaut, a Mythbuster and an author walk into a room. Then they analyze the author's bestselling book, "The Martian."

That's seriously good.

Here is Hatfield, showing just one of his talents.

I´m pretty much ######. That´s my considered opinion. ######.

Well, that audiobook has a very competent narrator. A snippet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ce-h-p_fKOs

Sounds good to me.

By the way, here's an interesting scene.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqfnMzDhi38

Listened to 1-2 hours of the book and then just had to find out if he said "My asshole is doing more to keep me alive than my brain" in the movie as well. So, downloaded it. It´s a watchable telesync but the audio is very good.

Think I need to listen to that book or some segments of it 2-3 times. What I covered so far had tons of very interesting botanical info and such. It´s very well written IMO, un-politically correct but not excessively and boringly so though.
I don't remember that quote in the movie, but it did cover the necessary issue of fertilizing pretty well.

The point being, martian dirt has zero organics.  That isn't dirt as we know it.  And without supplements, martian dirt won't grow anything.

Yeah yeah I know that. And No, he didn´t say it in the movie.

I think the book bogs down about 2/3 the way through, about the fourteenth time he has a disaster with the rover with the attached tent (disaster waiting to happen, of course.)  The writer has a way of always describing all the procedures the guy has to do over and over.  After a while it gets repetitive.  Maybe it works better with the audio book.

Also, I didn't even notice the lack of political correctness in the book, it just reads natural.  In the movie, you definitely notice because it's so radically different than other movies.

Can i have some links? torrents datas? i am still waiting for clear copy for downloading..haha
I would have to comment the movie is better than the book.   The book is brilliant, do not get me wrong.   But the plot simply is a good one for a movie script.

Audio books are a dramatic performance, their quality depends as much on the orator as the written word.

Interesting. Maybe it isn´t just another unbearable snoozer after all.

Unfortunately I´m sometimes forced to go to the cinema which is terrible since you can´t fast forward there. Nice seats though and since the smartphones appeared I can do some reading there, maybe a little work.

Nobody is sleeping through that one.

If you need the audiobook it´s at the cove where buccaneers exchange their wares. Downloaded it months ago,
haven´t gotten around to listening to it yet.

http://thefederalist.com/2015/10/27/the-martian-was-our-world-just-50-years-ago/

...NASA of “The Martian” works. None of the scientists are tweaking the data to goose the temperature trends out of their slump and fuel the global warming panic. No one is worried about whether the space agency is conducting enough outreach to the Muslim world. Movie NASA simply consists of brilliant people dedicated to using objective scientific data to solve real-life problems. There’s no place in their world for ruffled feathers and hurt feelings over innocuous microaggressions.

No, it’s a world that requires tangible, concrete results, and that’s the most problematic thing of all. You can either do math or you can’t. There are no participation trophies, and if you aren’t the best you need to move along and get out of the way so someone better than you can come along and do the job. This is not social science, it’s science science, and there is only one right answer.
