It is a standalone miner.
I suggest you read this S7 guide to get the basic idea http://www.dogiecoin.com/bitmain-antminer-s7.html
You need to connect the ethernet cable to a router or switch, not to your computer.
Computer is not needed here and you are not needed for the miner work after you have made the pool settings ready.

Also there is a lot of existing threads here at the forum to help you out, so I suggest you do little reading here and you'll get more knowledge  Smiley

Hi Guys,

I'm very new to cryptocurrency, but I believe that it's the future and want to get involved in mining. I have ordered the new antminer D3 for dash and it should arrive in a couple of months but I've never mined before and won't even know how to use it so I need some help!

It comes with a power unit. I know I need to ensure that I've got enough power in the circuit to power the antminer. I also need to keep it cool...is there any particular fan that you guys would recommend which will allow me to do this? I connect it to an ethernet cable....and to a laptop or computer, but then what? I've got absolutely no idea. Does the specs of the laptop or computer matter or is it irrelevant? I've been told I need to use a pool...any suggestions would be appreciated.

How does mining actually work? Do you connect everything up and just leave it on and the mining happens without you needing to do anything? Or do you need to physically be doing something on the computer to let it keep mining? If so, how often? How long can you leave it to do it's own thing?

What software do I need to mine the dash, or any other coin for that matter (when I get more miners for other coins)?

Thanks people!
