I'm certainly not opposed to the idea, but if I'm being honest, I think it's just going to be very hard to pull off.
Same reasons as Kakmakr states, similar providers are already having a very hard time due to constant bombardments with DDOS attacks while barely making a profit.

If you're in it for idealistic motives, I'd definitely say go ahead with it, breaking even is certainly possible! Just know that it might not be very profitable and it's a huge amount of work that you're going to have to put into it.

What added features will the PRO users have over the FREE users? The majority of users are just worried about security and anti-spam

features. I currently use several encrypted email systems, but the provider has to be trusted above everything else. A lot of service

providers are just a front for secret government agencies.  Roll Eyes

I think this will work for companies that wants their files encrypted for privacy. The problem is you wont get much users. Average people wont like paying up too much monthly if they can go free with other emails besides, they dont do much encryption. I work with a company that sends encrypted data thru other means and we just use the email for verification that we have sent it already.
This will be a huge fight for there are too many competition out there. Good luck.

I think you should be targeting those companies and make the price higher for them, for the exchange of making sure their datas are safe.

Interesting idea, but where you want to locate your servers? If you service become popular, there can be some problems with the law in some countries (USA as an example, also Europe). What do you think about it?

Our servers are located in countries where storing customer data in an encrypted form that neitger we nor the government can decrypt is allowed and we are not responsible for this data unless we know what the decrypted version says.

PLease, can you say what countries you have choose? It's very necessary to be calm about your data. We all know, that encrypted data in every moment can became decrypted if it located in bad place.

North korea ?

That would be the worst possible choice

I am curious, how are you going to penetrate a market, if you have to compete with similar sites like ProtonMail ? They have the same business model and funding structure and they barely survive on donations. They are also under constant attack and protected by Swiss privacy laws. < This has also been influenced by talks between them and the USA government >

ProtonMail has over 2 million users and in November 2015, ProtonMail was under several DDoS attacks that made the service largely unavailable to users.

They maintain two redundant data centres in Lausanne and Attinghausen (in the former K7 military bunker under 1,000 meters of granite rock).

How are you going to compete with this?

To be honest i never seen a successful donation campaign on bitcointalk.org besides ICO's.
I think that it takes much more work to get donations, also some proof that you already created at least a beta version of the project.

I know. I also more want feedback and such stuff...

I don`t think that the email business is profitable, unless you have a very large number of users.
Maybe you could offer a 7-day or 30-day free trial for the premium features and charge $5
per month after that.
People have to test the service before they purchase. This is just my suggestion.
Good luck with your project.

I think that you need to do much more to get donations look at kickstarter how people represent themselves. How your email service would be better than top secure email players like protonmail or hushmail?

You should read:
Quote
•   Know who has marked your emails as spam: Most inbox providers get notifications about emails marked as spam from other providers. So do we. But we don’t only use it to identify and ban spammers but also send you an email about it (if enabled) (PRO users and higher only)
•   Add buttons next to your email subject: Ever saw a button like “View documents” next to the subject of an email you received to your Gmail address? With us you can send such messages, too (PRO users and higher only)
•   Get delivery and read notifications: Be notified if someone opens your email and/or it gets delivered (read confirmations for anyone; delivery notifications for PRO users only)

Also I know how they represent themselves however they use ways not available in a good form here.

You want me to donate you?
What's your email service domain?

I don't force anyone to donate. Also we don't have decided the domain yet as we don't have a name yet.

There are many email providers. But all lack features and/or are not secure. But this was a problem of the past. Welcome to the next generation of hosted inbox!

Which features does your new solution have that others don’t have?
[/u]
•   Secure (emails from/to other users of this service are always encrypted. Inbound emails from other people are partially encrypted; We also don’t know who you really had conversations with. On every new sent/received message our database gets 5-30 additional entries which are filled with random data. They can only be identified using your decryption key (more details on our encryption below)

How does your encryption work?
Our encryption is using a secure public-private key based encryption. Your private key is stored in an encrypted form on our servers and can only be decrypted using an encryption key which is encrypted. When you log in your password is used to decrypt the decryption key. Then the key is stored in your session. When you read your emails it will be used to decrypt  the private key which is not stored in its decrypted form but only used to decrypt the messages to show. The same thing happens when you send an email to an other user of our service. When you send an email to an other user of our service their public key is retrieved from our database and used to directly encrypt the message before saving to our database. User to user messages are never sent via any email servers and never stored in unencrypted form. When your receive a message it takes up to five minutes to be encrypted and added to our database. After it is encrypted the unencrypted version is deleted directly. You can read your emails directly after your receive them however they are not encrypted instantly for technical reasons. We are however working on a solution to directly encrypt emails.

What will it cost?
The service will be completely free of charge however some features will be available to PRO users only. PRO will cost 5$/month (3$/month for students).

How can and why should I support you?
There are multiple ways:
1.   You can donate to our bitcoin address: 12iw6X7FVf5JKagndKJzgKKwC8KaTC2Q81
2.   You can send us feature requests and links to email providers you know so we can implement provider specific features for them
3.   You can suggest a name for our service
4.   You can create a logo for our service
5.   You can report bugs
6.   You can send us feedback
Each method will get you lifetime PRO in most cases.
