My thinking here was that probably only one person would come in after my early bid and I didn't know if I'd remember to come back and 1-up them. So I gave them a chance to choose peace and just take a half chance by playing 16 and leaving me the top half. But in fact I was here right before time and no one else was involved still so I took the bottom too.

I have a game in mind I want to try, gotta think on it a tad more though. Now I have some seed money for it!

Willing to accept any suggestions. The basic premise was to present an indisputable method of verifying who wins. Using Lotto numbers in some fashion can do this.

I would've have taken the approach Freemoney did under the current structure. Buy a slot with high number of combinations and then more as other slots were purchased offsetting odds with the largest open gap between numbers. One would have to keep an eye on the payouts also.

I initially liked the strategy to the game but without people playing it becomes mundane and simplistic.

I have a couple of ideas as to tweak it but am willing to accept others.

I like the concept but you need to rethink the structure.  Going first is very bad.  That means the action is concentrated near the end of the round.  Might as well make it a 1 day (or 8 hour game) as there is no reason to play until the very end.

I can think of some modest changes which would make it more interesting (and beneficial to act earlier).

To be honest tho...

Other than you or maybe a couple others that are aware of the game will enter. Or possibly, no one.

I am not actively marketing it. I tried to design it to be fair and avoid arguments as to who one and how the winner was chosen.

My ultimate purpose for the game is not BTC, but BTC community could benefit from it.

But people like Bitcoinica, GLBSE, SatoshiDice, etc... which is OK.

If however, you run a similar game with similar rules, I will enter. I thought about the strategy of going first and which numbers to pick and how many. Especially with a 10 BTC pot.

Another thing I liked about the game is that it can scale easily. Currently the available slots are limited. However if it became popular a minor tweak can double the amount of slots and/or just increase the slot price. So, it can scale all the way up to a parallel lotto game that can accept Millions of players.

1 day left to get slots. 0 entries. 10 BTC pot.

It looks like this isn't a popular forum game. I wonder, a little to fair maybe.

I am thinking of giving it one more shot for another week but adding an indisputable closing date and time during the week.

i.e. Some random number generated by a third party where their generation is for another reason and massive public use. Or possibly just hash and post a closing time during the week and post the hash.

Hmm... Now that I think about it, that adds another aspect of fun. Do I act or do I not.

You will know the winning number and we'll be wondering weather you will pick it or not? I might be misunderstanding. 'Fun' doesn't seem to describe that.

This game clearly favors the last plays and that makes for a boring week (with maybe an exciting end with 10BTC available, I guess we'll see). It might be cool to design a game where there was some incentive to move early that slowly faded and some incentive to move late that slowly emerged. Maybe cheaper bets early and more information emerging later. Like the sum of the last digit of block hashes or something.

Ah... Yea, you are misunderstanding. Currently the game ends on Tuesday Midnight UTC. What I was saying is randomly pick an end date for entries between Thursday and Tuesday. That way if people decide to wait until Tuesday but the end date is say Sunday at 3 as a cutoff then it would change the dynamics as to when to enter and would give incentive for others to enter early.  By hashing the random date one could prove it. But you are correct at least one would know the cut-off date and time.

So, I would propose using a un-aware third party for that decision. Luckily, because there are so many Lotto games, I could use a friday's lotto number from one of thousands of games played in the US and convert it to a timestamp. Publish the formula and bame. We would have a randomly chosen number that no one can control or know ahead of time.

Or if you know somebody that can know ahead of time, PM me, and lets leave this game and run to the bank. lol.

also can you work out a way to do a persistent link ? will make it easier for me and my list Wink

No dibs, have to pay to play.

And yes, if it becomes a weekly game, I think I have a method of providing a persistent link for you.

I've thought a lot about how to play this and I just can't.

I can't say for sure that not playing is the right move (with the money added I'll try to watch and get the only move in right at the end though!), but think about this:

Same game, only 2 players allowed 1 move each. Do you want to go first or second? Same game 3 players allowed 1 move each, do you want to go first, second or third? I don't think uncertainty about the number of moves changes the badness of going early, at least not much.

To ask another question: If you knew all the slots would be purchased, what number would you choose then?

hmm... Interesting. In the first case, second (if only 2 people are allowed). Restricting the amount of players the ideal is to be the last player.

However, without such restriction, the strategies employed can become moot with every new player. And once all the slots are filled, it becomes a simple number of combinations and odds game.

To ask another question: If you knew all the slots would be purchased, what number would you choose then?

Nah... I think it is fun. It might not go over here and that is fine. I do expect a rush at the end now after all it is $50

The fun thing will be there should be a rush at the end, but if there are a lot of purchases at the end then the earlier you bid the better, it's CRAZY. That is why I like it.

I have thought of purchasing a slot myself but can't ethically do it, since I am running it here. If there was no pot, it wouldn't matter if I purchased a slot.

The ∑ Number Game - Week 5/9 to 5/16

Please Read all. If any questions, feel free to ask.

Slot Price: 0.5 BTC sent to:  1LG9NweYZkmfaKW6XyLcB3uLhqR73WMCmv

The Winning ∑ =:  ( The Winning Sum Will be Put Here on Wednesday 16/May/2012 )

The Primer:

This game, depending on the number of entries, combines straight up odds with strategy. The winner is chosen by an indisputable method. The ∑ of the PowerBall numbers on Wednesdays. e.g. If the PowerBall numbers are 13, 40, 05, 50, 03, 35, then the sum of the numbers would be equal to: 146.

The person that choses that number would win. If no one chose that number, then the next closest but lower number would win. The 'Strategy' would come into play if all the possible slots are not sold out. e.g. If 100 to 145 has not been chosen, then purchasing slot 100 would cover all slots from 100 to 145 unless someone else chooses one of those slots. So, given those rules, the very first slot chosen should be 16. Because if no one else picks a slot above that number, that person would win by default.

The Rules:

Pick a Number from 16 to 350. Multiple slots can be purchased.

Make a post with your chosen number(s) and the amount required to the above BTC address and the return BTC address in case you win and/or a refund is warranted. e.g. Choose numbers 69, 150, 222 and pay 0.5 BTC • 3 = 1.5 BTC
Please include the txn number if possible in the post.

If two posts are made with the same numbers and payments have been received, the first post will get the slot. The second poster will be able to pick a new slot of their choosing.

If by chance No one has the winning number and their is no next closest number, the funds will be carried over to the next weeks game. e.g. Slots 50 to 100 are purchased but the sum of the numbers are 40. Since no one has chosen 40 or any slots below it, the funds will be carried over.

A pot of 10 BTC is set aside for the winner. So the minimum amount to win is 10 BTC.

All entries must be in before Tuesday at 23:59 UTC.  Any Late Entries will be refunded.

The Payouts:

The Winner will receive 90% of the amount received.

The last 10% will go into the BTC_Challenge fund. This fund is to give out BTC to winners of a BTC_Challenge. The purpose of this fund is to spread the use of BTC while allowing new comers a chance at receiving BTC and have a little fun.

The Winner will be chosen within 1 hour after the Drawing on 16 May 2012 and payouts will commence.

The below section will be updated at least once per day.
