But after all, people like him. And hence he can sell his book and make so much money! And he doesn't have to run a business to do that! Maybe his island will go vanish in a few years, but he might wanna enjoy it till his 60s so not a bad investment Cheesy

I'm no fan of the likes of Obama or the Clintons but if people want to pay them high dollar for "speaking engagements" so what.

That just does not rise to the point of something a person should be concerned about.

Yeah, Russian speaking engagements for half a mil and the money into the Foundation stinks to high heaven. But IT'S TRUMP THAT'S COLLUDING WITH THE RUSSIANS!!!

I wouldn't think this is something that we can say "so what" with and move in. It's not okay that someone was able to sell the power of their presidency, then clintons senator role, then her secretary of state role off to different countries. They're able to walk away with a ton of money for selling the powers of their office.

They're able to get away with it due to the fact that the 'bribes' come later on, and it not being during their tenure.

I am aware there is a lot more than "payment for speaking engagements" in the payments for speaking engagements. Still, I can't get to the place where it's not okay to get paid for speaking engagements.

I suspect that most of these speaking fees are from wealthy people that are paying back "Obama for laws and regulations that he passed that helped out their businesses.

Obama is just another hypocrite, acting like he cared about the poor people when he lives lavishly.  Reminds me of all the church pastors that do the same.

Oh yeah, no doubt.

This is the only way that a person would be able to be enriched by the office.

Though there is something to be said about someone who doesn't live the lavish lifestyle after the office - someone like Jimmy Carter, who is actually trying to advance certain causes and is volunteering his time instead of sucking the dick of lobbyists for money and some power.

But where does the money really come from? There are two categories of places:
1. Honest business dealings;
2. Crooks, including the IRS.

Every little IRS agent is a cog in the wheel of stealing from the people and giving to the rich.

Cool

I think it's a very fair point to point out that some people have used the office as a way to make tons of money out of it. Because people must understand that there's no reason a former President should be getting paid 100,000 per speech for no reason. There's not a way that these peoples words are worth this much.

But that's a fair thing to note -- these peoples words ARENT worth that much. These people must've used the powers of the office of the presidency, or their political power from within the office, to bring these groups that pay 100k (or anything really) for a speech a large amount of money. Meaning that, this is the payment back to the former President(s) for helping them out while they were in office.

This is the same sort of thing like how Congress people end up as lobbyists after they retire, or consultants, or whatever. Most people in Congress aren't worth it to become these high paid people in private sectors on their own merit. But once you use the powers of the office that they were just in, they're able to use it to get something after they retire.

Complete bullshit, but that's the system we live in.

What I can say is that the Obama's played the masses about they caring about them and all that, For these people like the Clinton's,  it's all about enriching themselves when they come to power and some people are soo naive that they believe them.

Unlike President Trump, who earned his money before taking office, the Obamas have benefited handsomely from their time in the White House.

How did they make their money? President Obama only earned the standard $400,000 salary when he was in office, but after leaving, he and his wife Michelle acquired a joint book deal worth $65 million, high-priced speaking engagements and a deal with Netflix. Now they are rolling in dough.

As a capitalist, I am all in favor of people making as much money as they want and spending it how they please. However, this lavish new abode is quite a statement in hypocrisy from the former president, who spent his presidency demonizing everyone else's success.

What was their stands about Success? From telling small-business owners they “didn’t build that” to the 2018 speech in which he said, "There’s only so much you can eat. There’s only so big a house you can have. There’s only so many nice trips you can take. I mean, it’s enough," the former president has spent his life spreading messages that disparage success.

As Foxnew Reporter who reported this says - As many of my Twitter followers have pointed out, he must not believe in the climate change his Democratic peers are pushing. If he did, he would believe his $15 million investment on the small island will be underwater — quite literally — in just over a decade.
