Bitcoin won't go mainstream for a generation or two. People don't value freedomThe Libertarian Version Of Freedom™ enough... yet.

Well a person would need to hear about btc and then ask themselves 'why do I need this thing?' If there is a need or a benefit, more users will adopt btc. For example, I only made a PayPal account because I wanted to buy stuff off of eBay. And I only wanted to buy stuff off of eBay because some stuff is cheaper there or unavailable locally. Otherwise I would never use either one.

Obviously btc has other potential users than just buying stuff online, but the main thing is that people need to have a reason to use it. And they have to justify that to themselves, not some person on here saying the world is going to end and people will flock to their saviour btc.

I think all it will take to kick it off is Amazon.  Bitcoin is the answer to online retail and it will make Amazon trillions of dollars if Jeff Bezos ever wakes up.  People will realize that they can buy anything completely secure on Amazon and get it delivered right to their door.

Amazon would open the floodgates.  Many companies will follow fast at that point.  I myself would look to get paid in bitcoin at that point.

I hate to say it, and others will hate to hear it, but it will be when banks adopt Bitcoin and provide consumers services with a familiar and trusted brand

Do you think it will be Circle that leads the way?

Or more likely PayPal (ironically enough) ebay, Facebook or Apple? Or a convergence of all of them coming out at once to really get people acclimated with digital currency?

Paypal starts accepting bitcoin, circle opens its doors to the public and only 2 very small rises, now we're back to 360, it's not looking good at all this year

Circle seems pretty cool.   But I think it'll be something else that leads the way to mass adoption.   I'm fairly certain that in 5 years we'll be there.

The killer app;  Bitcoin's "Netscape moment" is what we are waiting for.  Something every idiot and their grandma could make use of.    Those who were around for the mid 90's internet going mainstream, will remember how everything changed when it became legal to use it for commercial purposes, months later it was mainstream.

There are opinions all over this forum and elsewhere and make for entertaining reading.

If it's not too much to ask, care to share your criteria for what bitcoin needs to become mainstream, a household name, with a minimum $2500k price/value (as actual, not bubble/harpooned)?

Also by household name, I don't mean Kardashian fad crap but where you say 'bitcoin' and 100% of the people go "oh yeah!" instead of "huh?"

What has to happen. Timeframes are also welcome.

Thanks if you chime in.
