I used Bitstamp a lot since 2017. I hope Robinhood will keep its quality and tradition.
I don't think this will happen because as far as I know, it will close in the first half of 2025[1].
It seems that they are planning to acquire that platform to immediately obtain more than 50 active licenses and registrations globally, in addition to the Bitstamp team joining Robinhood to enhance collaboration and innovation.

Robinhood seems to want to take the shortcut even though the price of the transaction seems low compared to what you will get.

The deal, not Bitstamp, will close in the first half of 2025. I guess Robinhood must have seen something in how the oldest running crypto exchange is being successfully managed that it survived amidst the worst of bear markets, the suffocating regulations, and in the face of strong competition.

As far as I've read, the CEO along with the rest of the Bitstamp team will remain with the exchange even after the sale. But we might be expecting some major restructuring as soon as the transfer of ownership will fully sink in.

Edit: bitstamp is the oldest cryptocurrency exchange that is still operating
That's a good move by Robinhood exchange, I saw the documentary video of Robinhood like how did they succeeded in this crypto era, and now they have proved themselves more successful as they have bought a senior exchange which is in the market since 2011. I am that's really amazing for both. This will bring more users and I am sure that the team of RobinHood will increase the user experience of bitstamp as well.

Although I don't know why did they bought this and why bitstamp sold it for only $200 million. I know saying only $200 million is a little odd for me to say but I think rates should be higher. I am not an accountant so just a thought. BTW I did not used it till now neither the RobinHood as I did not come to need them. Thanks for sharing the news.

I was actually expecting Robinhood to just exit the crypto market after all the criticism they had since they first started, giving users the ability to sell and buy but not to withdraw funds to their personal wallets, freezing accounts, etc. Let's just hope they don't turn Bitstamp into the same thing.

I downloaded the exchange to see if I can use it. I saw my country among the countries on the lists of countries that can use the exchange. Also many African countries were included but on the above quote, Africa is not mentioned. I have many exchanges that I am using now but probably I may try Bitstamp to see how it is.

In the early stage long years ago, I used to use Bitstamp a lot but for some reasons slowly I moved from them. Didn't felt good with them. I never had a bad experience with the though. It's good for Robinhood, one less competition.

Robinhood to Acquire Bitstamp

This acquisition will bring Bitstamp's globally-scaled crypto exchange to Robinhood, with retail and institutional customers across the EU, UK, US and Asia.

This strategic combination better positions Robinhood to expand outside of the US and will bring a trusted and reputable institutional business to Robinhood.

It was a good exchange,  reliable and fast. It saved me many times abroad when I need a quick buck to my bank account.
