I think it is a great word, it always puts a smile on my face when I see it. I guess the original guy who was responsible can tell his grandkids about it.

It is a misspelled ''holding'' from a post here on Bitcointalk many years ago.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/i-am-hodling-375643

It will never go away, it has been engraved in the crypto culture forever.

Cheers!

HODL annoys the crap out of me.  Why?  Because it is the signal that BTC lost its way and original purpose as a decentralized currency and had been converted by consensus into the "store of wealth" Ponzi that depends on everyone keeping their money in play as well as recruiting new people to drive up the price so that those with the most coins can take profits...and laugh all the way to the bank with their millions in fiat.

There are lots of new things that goes along with bitcoin and its great to be part of it. I never thought there's a history behind it. I thought HODL was just mispelled or mistyped.

Don't forget about the legendary origin of HODL!  Grin I thought before when I was new in bitcoin this is just a misconception and just intentionally misspelling the term HOLD. But upon knowing this, well it is really an epic thing. At least gamekyuubi contributed something big to the history and entire cryptocurrency, this is not only applicable to bitcoin but also to alts. This will never be forgotten. gamekyuubi, you're a real legend man.

It originated with someone that was posting while drunk and complaining about cheating wife, bitcoin crashing 80%, etc, but that he will continue to "hodl"

It is a masterpiece

I have always been curious about why everybody was spelling *hodling* instead of holding in Reddit and here too, then i discovered this thread about more than three months ago

It is a misspelled ''holding'' from a post here on Bitcointalk many years ago.
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/i-am-hodling-375643

And i registered in this forum on 2014 so i was not in here on 2013 when that guy posted it, but i always knew that this was a meme just like the guy of the pizza and all the other people who have been spending thousands of bitcoins in useless things.

Like the guy who spent ten bitcoins on a new pack of dishes for his wife, oh my god, what a classic.
