government in itself is very crucial in guaranteeing the success of a country, we can't live peacefully without the government. But, obviously in practice, the system could be flawed.

the problems with government is that they dont have a spine
heck they dont even have a clear mission statement
they pander to whoever has a large voice and think that large voice is actually the voice of the majority because its all they can hear

what needs to change is simply that the governing top rule/mission statement of
will our actions/decisions help/benefit the lives/freedoms of the majority

then from that main rule decisions about things can then be weighed in on.
for instance does paying out R&D for 'automated driving' help/hinder the majority of people. or a corporation
then
'would preventing a company independently fund R&D into self driving' help/hinder the majority

1. tax R&D will waste money that could be spend on citizens instead.
2. letting companies self fund R&D will give citizens better cars in the future
so dont fund them but dont stop them researching is best options

a simple thing like will government actions help/benefit the lives of the majority. actually gives the government a clear mission statement for their purpose of their everyday tasks

The problem is how governments are structured and how they operate. Structure them properly so that evil people in governments (and even private sector) will be held accountable for their crimes and breaking of laws/rules

It seems many don't check and balance their governments. We could even use the right technology (like decentralized tech) to do this very effectively. Centralization of power contribute seriously to the evil in governments. We all need to properly monitor those who are up there to serve society (whether private or public) and use the laws against the breakers of good laws.

This is same with what is happening in our country. Since we have a centralized system of government, most of the budget goes to the capital instead of being distributed equally to all regions.

Even if we start to prosecute people who breaks laws, the real evil also have the power to practically change rules and laws to suit then in parliaments and hence sometimes we just have to accept that in this world, there will forever be such idiot and evil people who will exist because without them there's no value of good people. They will always find a loophole and continue their devilish ways of life.

It's difficult to see an honest leader when the Constitution is abuse, power rest on the Constitution and the people, upholding the Constitution and leader are held responsible then power can be centralized.

The problem is with the people and the people who run the government. There's no one to blame but the people .

You know why most of the politicians all around the world are rich? Because they have an unfair advantage over the common people and that is the fact that they are the insiders and they know about upcoming policies and decisions before public and they use this information for their own financial gains, for example, if some  politician is incharge of finance department he will know what policy is coming up and how will it effect their currency based on that he will buy the currency that will pump due to the policy. Similarly planning related politician will know where major infrastructure or building projects are going to be launched by the govt. So he will buy the precious land around that project for cheap and sell very expensive when govt project launches.

There are public servants that do their job fantasticly and follows what they've promised during their oath. But, I think in all forms of government in all countries, there will be these officials that are not willing to serve their people.

They have their own agenda to work with while being in the position. And those kind of officials are the ones who are losing the trust of the people.

Interesting topic.

You will never be able to get rid of power. Imagine if you were the prime minister of a country but your power is
limited. Someone who doesn't know that will consider you very powerful and this may potentially create morally fair
and unfair opportunities. The power stays in the hands of those who perceive it, not in those who have it.
