No, the real reason is cause most of the ICO ads are nothing but scam ads. Preying on new users to get them to invest in their ICOs and than waiting to exit scam them. If you look at the social media ads than you will understand that they are nothing but a rot on the crypto world.

I think there are a number of reasons: a fear of competition, and legal problems with a number of countries, as well as an attempt to protect people from losing money. The ban on advertising in these corporations is an excellent opportunity for the creation and development of placards targeting the crypto industry.

They are simply trying to fence off people from losing money, because 80% of ICO today is a  scam. I think that they are doing everything right. A good projects and so will collect the right amount, because they have a standing product

See most of the people think only about the loss Facebook is making by rejecting the advertisers. But getting associated with scam projects hampers the image of Facebook which is bad for the company in long run and is more dangerous.

Whenever someone goes on the offense, it’s a good idea to think about what they have to gain if their target succumbs. More so than often there are selfish motives at the core of their criticism; and I find this to be true concerning the recent bans on ICO advertising by Facebook, Google, and Twitter.

Anyone who has been into crypto for some time, knows that mostly money grab ICO’s advertise on social media. Solid projects use means that are more efficient at connecting with the crypto community which is very privacy conscious; and not so active on SNS.

If it to protect newcomers from being scammed, SNS services can easily scrutinize advertisers more carefully...

So why the outright ban and accepting the loss of millions of dollars in ad revenue?

It is because of the threat that decentralized SNS services and personal data management solutions on the horizon pose to their future existence. There are many new blockchain projects that are giving control to user over their personal data which is the main source of  revenue for many SNS services; as well as, decentralized SNS platforms coming onboard which allow users to monetize their activities.

If the new decentralized SNS platforms take off, then Facebook, Twitter, and Google will surely follow the path of MySpace, Netscape, and AOL.

This is the real reason behind these bans...

Unfortunately, so many of us are falling for the hype. Even after exiting a election that revealed how social media is easily manipulated, some still are jacked into the matrix and fall for the propaganda that target illogical fears. No matter what they do, how hard they try to make it for us, cryptos are here to stay!!

I totally believe what you are telling us right now. There is big collaboration among the three(3) social media sites to stop crypto business because these 3 companies feel their business is threaten. However they cannot stop crypto because it is a paradox box that has been opened which cannot be closed.

The development of the block chain will be very fast in the future, while the advertising of ico will be many, and the enterprise will value the profits. Advertising is the most important income of social media!

I think we can get Google, twitter, Facebook to ban the advertising of ico, and there must be a strong interest in controlling them!

I think that the main reason is a lot of fraud and scammers among cryptocurrency start-ups that are advertised in Facebook and I think that this is in full an adequate reaction....

I somehow agree. While it is OK for online casinos to advertise their businesses on the social media cartel (facebook, google, twitter etc...) it is just hypocritical to ban ICO ads. I admit the ban is good for newbies since they jump on the first scam they see without asking any questions but if you think a little harder, they'll get scammed eventually whether its by crypto or not.

What you say would be an incredible advancement over what we have now. Are there any potential projects?

Facebook will be forgotten in the next years. They sell user information without user's acceptance.

Eventually the outdated ones will gradually turned how myspace did. If those SNS blockchain projects will come to be developed one day and will be used while they can monetize their own activity while users also have the chance to hold and trade tokens themselves, it will be a success that will overthrow these giants.  I think it will happen still so long as bitcoin lives.

Everyone here made some very good alternative arguments; and points well taken. However, FB and Twitter can request verifying documentation to avoid an all out ban. Not wanting to risk their reputation is not the reason in my opinion. Think about all of the fraudulent herbal supplements sold on these platform which are a bigger danger, but we see no ban.

The market can definitely move on without facebook, twitter and google advertising, there are more ways and avenues to target crypto community now, like forums and portfolio management platforms.

I'd also go with attributing it to the overall situation, the uncertainty, rather than the possible competition. With companies like Facebook and Google it's all about risk assessment and as crypto is highly unregulated, the risk involved is immense. They can't afford to get sued where such high figures are involved. This could bite them years later, so they choose the safe path. It's not as if they wouldn't make enough money with other ads:

So this title has nothing to do with your point of view.
Facebook's ban on ICO advertising is due to legal issues facing countries.

That was a strong point though but on my side the thing why they do such thing would really be either influenced on other institutions/people/government behind and also they dont like to risk up their reputation that they had built for how many years because of those scam ICO's.These might result into loss of revenue but they would rather choose it than to risk their company on overall aspect. This is just based on my own view but no one really knows on whats behind into those ban decisions.

Those scam ICO's really is the cause why facebook and soon twiiter and google will ban crypto or ICO related ads. Their are still a lot of people who will fall for scam.  And those who have criminal minds uses these platforms to promote their scam ICO. So agree with what you said that they would rather do disk or their company will be a risk.

I don't think that is the reason of their ban, the only menace to facebook is facebook itself. With the data breach scandal, they have shot their own foot and it would not be strange if they become irrelevant in the future.
