They only say they have yet to find evidence. That doesn't mean evidence can't be found by the end of the investigation.

PWC would of said "No, nothing happened. This is a fraud" by now if this was nothing but a scam. Additionally, the Secret Service would of packed up and said "false alarm" as well if there was nothing to investigate. The fact this is still sitting in investigation shows something is up.

Any company with allegations of poor security is going to try to downplay it outright. If they are certain nothing is up, they end it as soon as possible.

PWC is far from certain.
