What some mods define as trolling others may not so it’s too difficult to determine trolling.

I guess whatever OP is describing or telling comes under the scam or intent to scam. OP,feel free to tag with reference of your conversation with these scammers. Unfortunately scams are not moderated so you will not get any moderator help. Might be some DT can reinforce your ratings.

Though it is against the forum rules, as it says here:

3. No trolling.

But, you can never tell if what kind of trolling does the rule "No trolling." refers to since we don't only have a single kind of trolls in here. Banning someone for only saying, "You cannot code." or something would be totally senseless. Once it is clearly defined if what kind of trolling is not allowed, then you can simply report the trollers to moderators and they will get the punishment they deserve. Till then, learn to ignore.

I mean think about it: The staff on this forum are running a business. If this were a coffeeshop and they act inappropriately. Sometimes I may troll say troll newbies in the Services section, call them out on their inability to code and you can call that troling, and Sometimes I see brand new accounts posting no GitHub account, are assholes on their competitors. Some newbies are nice but most of them are so arrogant they say "you can't code"  when you either are too busy or so happen to still be watching Laracasts videos and has been doing so for a long time now.

Edit fixed word salad

I consider people who say they don't like Bitcoin, enjoy lemons, or disagree with me on any personal matter trolls.

What is and isn't a "troll" is so incredibly subjective that its only definable in the worst of cases, and those people are banned. Being arrogant and telling someone that they can't code isn't trolling, its just like, their opinion man.

This is a sensible reply. Although some may even consider it a troll in itself.

People can call anything they like trolling. There is no sensible definition as yet here.
You can be labelled a troll for presenting a facts based post or even on topic and relevant observable events. If it does not fit with the narrative of the majority of posters in a thread then it can/will be dismissed as trolling.

Trolling is a tricky one  because a person can be seemingly genuine and helpful but is actually trolling you. It really has nothing to do with tone. Someone can be quite rude and abusive but deliver to you useful, important and helpful information. Or someone can sound polite and helpful but be fucking with you big time. It's hard to tell without fully understanding the posters intent. I mean they might be trying to be helpful but they themselves incompetent with regard the specif topic. Or they may be expert and believe they are being helpful by telling you correctly (in their mind) you are shit and should give up and stop wasting your time.

Persons calling others trolls are often just trolling themselves.

It is a term that is misused greatly.

A post is either useful in that it contains on topic relevant new information/opinion that is observably correct and verifiable or there is a strong supporting case behind it. Or it is just low value, zero value or negative value speculation and groundless opinion.

While I do think that this is a rather obvious thing to do, I do think it is something which goes against the core ideals of Bitcoin, the core ideas of this forum, and Theymos' ideals (or at least what I think his ideas are) Once you allow for some degree of censorship, such as removing the trolls and the spammers and such, you allow for people to interpret what a 'troll' is.

Maybe right now a 'troll' or 'spammer' is just people who post random garbage, but in the future (under different management of the forum lets just say) maybe 'troll' is someone with a differing view. This is the problem with allowing for this sort of censorship, as definitions can change under different people--allowing for large scale abuse and censorship under the banner of 'banning the trolls'

So yes, the best thing for you to do personally is to just ignore people and let them do their own thing. Removing their voice is something that could have lasting consequences.

Where do you find such trolls? If it's Bitcoin discussion or altcoin discussion board — trolls are expected, and you know the reason.

Hi OP,
As suchmoon stated above, this is main reason why the forum has two basic features:
- Ignore: Simply click on the Ignore below the name and avatar (if available) of accounts that you want to add into your Ignore list.
After ignoring someone, his/her future posts will dissappear for the case of your account.
- Report to moderators:
For this one, you should spend your time to read the topic:

the staff of this forum are only a handful of people , they are not aliens with some superpowers to ban everyone for everything.

and then even if they  were to submit to your theory , you are right, they are running a business, a part of the business is to attract more people to use the forum, trolling is one good reason. you can't compare the forum to a coffeeshop, compare it to Facebook for an example, does Mark ban trolls ?

Whatever it is that you're trying to say with your word salad, it sounds like it can be easily solved using "Ignore", leaving moderators to deal with spam and other real issues.
