The number of crypto ATM's worldwide has grown to more than 8,000 just a month after passing the 7,000 mark in March.
According to the monitoring resource coinATMradar, there are currently 8,208 ATM's in 73 countries allowing users to buy and sell Bitcoin and Altcoins for Cash. More than 6,000 of them are in the United States.
https://cointelegraph.com/news/there-are-now-more-than-8-000-bitcoin-atms-worldwide

It makes people to have a convenient bitcoin transaction for those who are nearby ATM's machine.
It shows continued growth of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency. The mass adoption for bitcoin will surely increase and someday many people now without knowledge in bitcoin will engage in cryptocurrency because as time passed, bitcoin became more and more popular and recognizable.

This doesn't seem to be mass adoption at all, according to your stats there are 8000+ BTC ATM's worldwide, and 6000 of them are in the United States alone, meaning the manufacturers only concentrate on the United States rather than distributing the ATM's to  other parts of the world,I just tried searching for a BTC ATM close to my area with this link: https://coinatmradar.com/  guess what, I found nothing, the next one is about 483 kilometers away from me, and that's about 18hours drive from my current state, the funniest part is that, there is only one in my country  Shocked, so if we want to see mass adoption of crypto ATM's , they have to do better than that.

Wow, 8000 bitcoin ATM is a really huge number for me but it doesn't mean that there are many bitcoiners around the world because I believe that there are still so many people who don't have any knowledge about cryptocurrency, they don't have any idea about it because only a few countries allow this currency to thought for their citizen, which is really good I think because it will benefit them so much in the future.

This ATM machine will become more if all country will allow it to use by their citizen, as of now there are still many countries banned the cryptocurrency.

Use this to locate the nearest BTC ATM’s in your area -

https://coinatmradar.com/

The best site to get info on atms in your area, definitely handy if you're abroad and in a pinch for cash.

May be important to note that many ATMs currently request for some sort of KYC. Haven't used one since the quarantine started though

The demand for bitcoin is increasing day by day all over the world and ATMs have been set up to meet its demand. Although there are many who are of the opinion that it is better not to transact from the ATMs the fees are much higher. However, it is true that the ATMs will come in handy when needed. I hope the number of ATMs will increase a lot as the demand for Bitcoin increases

That will be so nice to see such a great numbers of Bitcoin ATMs because it will make more convenience specially for those who are into using Bitcoin. Sadly, the reality is that most numbers of those Bitcoin ATMs are located in the US so other countries still do not have an access to the said ATM. But I am looking forward to see that almost all countries will be having the presence of Bitcoin ATMs because for sure it will boost the usage of Bitcoin as well as encourage other people to use Bitcoin and learn more about. What the important thing that must be considered first is that if people on the place have adapted on using Bitcoin because there is no such sense placing Bitcoin ATM where no one wants to use it or have not yet adapted or learned to use and acquire Bitcoin. But all in all, having such number of Bitcoin ATMs is really a great step for the adaptation of Bitcoin usage and making more convenience specially for doing transactions related to Bitcoin.

But before that, the government's should understand first how bitcoin works and how it help their economy to grow. Most of the countries are still not legalizing the use of cryptocurrency in their country, maybe due to the scams or hacks that are being reported in the news. We as a bitcoin user should help them know the reality about the advantages of bitcoin in our daily lives.

Just like this bitcoin ATMs, this will give a less hassle to us to withdraw our money. I know that, it is not easy to do that due to the pandemic that we are experiencing right now and some services are postponed. But i'm really hoping for more adoption and more bitcoin ATMs around the world so that people will see how this bitcoin moves and grow globally.

This is super! Bitcoin is really spreading out. And when people see it's importance, they'll have no choice but to join this moving train. I'm pleased to see this increment. BTW, I don't think 8k is a small amount.

I strongly agree with the many Bitcoin ATMs scattered throughout the world that can increase the popularity of Bitcoin, even though
the transaction costs are sufficient great if we make transactions with Bitcoin ATM. But it still includes an effective marketing
method to attract the attention of people who have not get to know Bitcoin. Because ordinary people will be curious if they see
Bitcoin ATMs, and try to find out and learn about them. Therefore spread Bitcoin ATMs must still be done to accelerate Bitcoin mass
adoption.

Although the transaction fees are very high, but I believe Bitcoin ATMs can serve as promotional strategy and it would help in crypto adoption. As the numbers are suggesting crypto transactions using ATMs are more common in United States and Europe but crypto trade in many countries is not legal that is why the numbers are very less as compared to US. As the transaction fees are ridiculously high why would someone need ATM if he can trade through local exchanges?

I believe that is one major reason why the use of bitcoin ATM is still low, the transaction fees are quite high as compared to other methods of converting your crypto to fiat. But with the presence of these machines, people will be curious and may search on their own. Noncrypto users will try to check this out and who knows some of them will turn to be crypto user. If nothing else, the presence of these machines in public will entice some individuals to know more about crypto esp bitcoin.

Again, ATM are a good way to buy bitcoin in a privacy respectful way.
So I think this is the way we have to measure the convenience of every ATM: respect for privacy, or, mostly, how much (how few) KYC they do apply.
When you buy on an exchange you trade your privacy for liquidity and efficiency: something you don’t necessarily find or need buying from a privacy oriented ATM.

Yeah, loved how this interview showed barbeque, glass, hot girlfriend, how great crypto is, how people should be able to buy, but miraculously the author of this clearly paid article failed to address the one question everyone remotely interested in purchasing would have asked...What about the fees? So I checked them myself

The fees are really high for bitcoin based ATM machines when i tried sometime back just to try how things are and i was not happy with high fees, what is the situation now and the charges. The cameras outside the ATM machines to protect against vandalism is a good ploy Cheesy. I have heard stories about people getting scammed where the scammers ask the user to use the ATM machines to get the bitcoin as it is too easy to get those without any real problems and with the increase in those type of scams i am expecting certain restrictions in the near future.
The justification for the fees seems to be the relatively good security that it provides. For example, if you wanted to do a local exchange with someone you have to meet that person, and ultimately trust them with the transaction, as well as them knowing your identity, and various other things. This is a peerless transaction in the sense that it doesn't require another person, and removes the risks that are associated with that.

Although, there's the security risk that's been mentioned with tampering, but most of them are covered by security cameras, and most people aren't that interested in tampering with Bitcoin ATM machines since tampering with the cash ATMs would be far more profitable due to the sheer amount of volume they get as opposed to Bitcoin ATMs.
To me, the high fees of an ATM machine are justified as long as  this is the most secure way to exchange Bitcoin in a privacy-wise manner.
If I can trade my sats with the security and privacy, I am eager to trade those very important factor with a few satoshi.
Of course, if there are ways to do that better (truly anonymous DEX's, for example), the happier.

Really? so where is the privacy on crypto ATM machines? - I don't know how it really works but I'm sure you need to connect with your phone, keys or something , I really don't know how crypto ATMs really work, can't imagine tho we have thousands of it already, but isn't it not fair to have cameras? I know ATMs usually have cameras for security but on this one? I'm very skeptical on dealing with one of these, aside it looks so boring to me coz it will be longer than usual ATMs.

So we cannot just order anybody to withdraw our crypto in an ATM?

If you want to know how one of those crypto ATM work, you can read this thread in the italian Board (Use Google Translate if you are not fuent in our language!).

However, it would be nice if the ATMs are being installed in other nations instead of just USA
You are so right about this, a good example is Africa where there are less than 20 to 30 crypto ATMs, I noticed Europes are the next after North America. Asia, Australia and Africa needs to also adopt crypto ATMs the way North America and Europe did because this can also help in more bitcoin adotion and thebadoption of other cryptocurrencies  the ATMs are supporting.
I believe that it was not just installed in USA alone because even in Asian countries there are also Bitcoin ATM machines that is growing.

Also some Banks offers Bitcoin purchasing and also some countries 7/11 offers to convert Fiat for Bitcoin and other chosen cryptos so there are plenty of option to Get Bitcoin then it wasn't that needed to have Bitcoin ATM in totality .
But it is good to have more machines scattered all over the world.

If I'm not mistaken I remember some sites that have all the current maps where those Bitcoin ATM located. the only thing I don't know is if they are up to date or not. nevertheless, that site is helpful to check if your city has one of the Bitcoin ATM. you can actually try it yourself if how that thing works. Maybe If we have that kind of ATM here in our cite, I might post some details about my experience. The site I was talking about is here: https://bitcoinatmmap.com/

Good news for mass adoption but it must separate through the world. More than 75% in the USA means again not a homogeneous distribution. Europe can achieve this.

That was really pretty awesome how usage of Bitcoin is massively being adapted worldwide with the increase of numbers when it comes to the existence of 8,000 Bitcoin ATM's worldwide. This really gives a lot more convenience into people who are into using Bitcoin for they can now easily do transaction with Bitcoin because of this.

This just come into my mind that on the near future, the existence of Bitcoin ATMs will continue to grow evenly once usage of Bitcoin have already been massively recognized and adapted by many people. This just shows a big step into massive adaptation of Bitcoin usage that can grow even more once people know the importance and usage of Bitcoin.

So i do think that these atms will help to improve trust in the bitcoin. But it is still much space to grow. A number of 8000 Atms is for sure not low but there is still a lot of space to increase this very number
Don't worry mate because Banks now are also doing their way to Help people accumulate Bitcoins and some altcoins using their machines  and i think this ismuch better than offering only Bitcoin alone right?
because most of us now also Love having altcoins and not only Bitcoin for Holding.

The number is very low in my opinion but I think that we are off to a good start, I hope that many entrepreneur and people should jump the shark and invest to create more of these.
Not everyone will even use Bitcoin ATM even though they are bitcoin holders. And among those 8,000 ATMs available, I think there are only 3 or 4 ATMs available in my country and personally, I have not seen one. So I don't think it's enough to attract the public in my country. That's why it's still far to consider getting mass adoption with it because most machines were installed in a single country.

Also, the contribution of bitcoin ATMs in mass adaption is not that huge because even some crypto holders won't even use it. The machine will just attract passers-by if they got curious about that, but it does not necessarily mean they will adopt crypto. But it's still good that the number of ATMs is increasing even though some holders do not prefer it due to higher fees.

Have a little faith, the numbers is still low so we can deduce that there will be long way to go for the people to completely adapt it. The benefits they give back to the community is agreeably low, they should keep their PR on par with the cryptocurrency they are supporting.

I think crypto ATMs can serve as promotional strategy as many people are still not showing their faith in cryptocurrency due to safety and security as said by many poeople what if BTC vanished one day? So this will ensure people that BTC or other cryptos are not going anywhere. USA has 6000 ATM which allow people to sell or buy crypto but the numbers are minimal in other countries as 122 countries don't have any ATM. I hope in future mass adoption of cryptocurrency will surely increase someday.

It's really nice seeing more and more bitcoin/ crypto ATM being install with each passing day and i strongly believe it will boost adoption as the outside world or people who are being sceptical about bitcoin will get to understand that tge vision of cryptocurrency is far from an abstract. There is a belief, that when you buy bitcoin in ATM, you keep your identity unrevealed. Of course, local cameral can still shot your face and try to identify you. But crypto ATM doesn't have a built-in camera, like in usual ATM's.

When you "buy some crypto on bitfinex from card", I'm 100% sure that you need to pass KYC.

Long story short.
Many crypto ATM’s have cameras. Might be not strictly for KYC, rather than to prevent fraud or vandalism.

Some people have said since majority of the ATMs are in the United States and Canada, it means that adoption is not happening other places. That’s not right, the adoption is going on in other places, even in Africa; in countries like Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa and lots of them.

ATM is not really necessary for the adoption of cryptocurrency, because everything you can do with a cryptocurrency ATM you can do it and even more using your smartphone and computer, and it’s more convenient than having to make use of Bitcoin ATM. I am not seeing in near future also people will be preferring bitcoin ATMs like how they do as of today. Because, there could be alternative for every aspect of bitcoin ATM which means we have buy and sell cryptos more easily than do with the help of bitcoin ATMs.

To this day I really hope
bitcoin ATM machines can enter my country, because I'm very curious to try to do a bitcoin transaction with an ATM.

Perhaps the problem with so much centralization of such devices on one continent is that there are no more independent initiatives by individuals to set them up in their own countries. I think I’ve seen those cheapest models cost under $1000, but they’re more like small gearboxes, and those real ATMs are still in the price range above $3000. Yet it is too expensive for most of those who would like to try, and may not live in big cities where such an investment would be profitable.

Maybe things will change in the future, because if there is really increased demand, then supply will adequately respond to it.

There is a lot to contribute to the introduction of Bitcoin to the people who knows nothing about crypto currency. It will be easy for us as well to buy or sell Bitcoin and altcoin for cash. It helps to encourage more people to use Bitcoin.

Baby steps as people say it.

It's been more than a decade and I think despite the small steps we take, it is essential since people are actually are slowly considering Bitcoins and cryptocurrencies. Though the problem here is that there are scams surrounding and I hope people would be cleared as to what is legitimate and what is not. Some of the new ones are weeded out of because of it. I just hope more people are actually using the ATM here in our country.

Too good to see the adoption takes well and the development continues but it was to think also that some countries are still left behind from this huge and impressive development. In fact, we are unfortunate to have nothing in our country. If we only have for at least one Bitcoin ATM in our country it gives courage to our fellow countrymen to adopt the system and it drives more awareness to us.

Anyway, I saw a continuous development in the market and that pretty soon to come a moment that it will come to us and people could use it. Let's give the moment for the big countries to have it first.

That's a great achievement to be proud of. I am glad more of these ATMs are being installed across the world but i have not seen much progress in the western part of Africa when it comes to establishing bitcoin ATMs. One thing that I love about about these bitcoin ATMs is that some of them also accept other major cryptocurrencies as well which is a good idea to increase the efforts of crypto mass adoption.

8,200 ATMs from which 6,000 are located in the USA.It seems that the cryptocurrency users are pretty much concentrated in the USA.I don't believe that's the case.Countries like Japan and South Korea are more crypto-friendly and more open to technology innovations than the USA.Why don't they have as much ATMs?
It's always good to know that there are signs of growing Bitcoin adoption.
However,I'm not a big believer in the ATM business model. The fees of using an ATM are still really high and sooner or later the hackers will find a way and start to exploit those ATMs.

Worldwide is too broad a term, and a generalization that hides the fact that growth is basically taking place in the USA.  If we break down growth by the main countries listed on Coinatmradar’s stats (https://coinatmradar.com/charts/growth/), only the USA is increasing it’s ATM base at a fast pace, whilst being behing the vast majority of existing ATMs worldwide. Europe is coming to a stall, Canada barely grows, UK and Austria decrease, Spain and Switzerland are flat.

I’ve no idea if the reason behind the above is cultural, law based, or investment related, but only the USA seems to be knee deep into the business.
The fact is like that. The biggest growth indeed exists in the US 7000 ATMs located on one continent and 1,000 other ATMs spread throughout the world.
Some countries such as Indonesia (my current country) are not listed on coinatmradar.com, even though there are 3 Bitcoin ATM locations that are already available.
Even so, the regulations in my country are not entirely in favor of Bitcoin, there are a number of obstacles that should not be broken.

3 Bitcoin ATMs in Indonesia, used only as a promotion that Bitcoin is really a currency that has value and can be used by anyone.

Eloncoin.org - Mars, here we come!

I had a funny encounter about Bitcoin ATM,years ago when i first learn about Bitcoin and lucky that the ATM was near my place that time,so i come to Get some BTC but the thing is i don't know how to operate and that is embarrassing because the one next to me needs to teach me first lol,But days are gone  now .

Now Bitcoin can be Bought instantly in my part,My local wallet that can be purchase a Bitcoin thru 711 branches.

Good to hear this though .

Looking for gigs
Use this to locate the nearest BTC ATM’s in your area -

https://coinatmradar.com/

I have that exact app when I am locating a Bitcoin ATM in the Philippines, Hongkong, Singapore and Taipei last year. It’s very helpful. I’ve seen a few Bitcoin ATMs, especially Unionbank’s 1st ever regulated crypto ATM in the Philippines.

The first crypto ATM that I actually tried making a transaction was in Plaza Singapura. The Bitcoin ATM was owned by Daenerys in a store where they buy and sell gold and other precious metals, and my friend helped me withdraw BTC to Singapore dollars in their ATM. It was cool!

I just hope more and more Bitcoin ATMs will be deployed in more years to come. This is just the start of Bitcoin and crypto massive adoption.

Calm down maybe, nobody tried to hurt your lovely country. Cheesy

You started with the wrong assumptions, I'm not American I'm European, but I'm amazed how people like to bash both the US and the EU and cheer for 3rd world countries as the future of BTC development when the reality is totally the opposite.

Here, we have fiat machines that only let you cash out from your card and ones that also allow you to deposit fiat (think of it as "buying" digital fiat) into your debit/credit card and we call them both "ATMs". Hence, it was quite logical to me that I could call a machine that lets me buy BTC with cash an "ATM" too.

You can call a duck goose because it also swims but it's still a duck, calling a payment with a debit card a credit card purchase doesn't make it a credit card purchase. Then you started a long story In which really don't know what you're talking about and  99% of the audience will fall asleep when you could have said simply this:

I honestly believe that an automated machine that lets you buy crypto with cash directly but doesn't let you cash out should be counted as an ATM too.

Well, you're wrong, by the own definitions you have yourself quoted.
Whatever Qiwi or NTS Pay or other terminals you have they are not ATMs so they don't count and this topic is not about ways of buying bitcoins but how many ATMs are in the world, out which the US has 83%, Europe 14% and the rest of the world are below the margin of error.

The problem is not the companies, the problem is that people in 3rd world countries don't have one important thing, MONEY!

Exactly, if people do not have money even for basic needs, there is no logic to offer them crypto ATMs which, depending on the model, can have a fairly high price, and everyone wants to make a profit with them as soon as possible. But even to some let's say rich countries where people do not have problem with money, the laws do not allow such devices to be installed because crypto is not regulated.

Hihi, exactly!.
Despite all the things people say, the western world is still the most crypto-friendly out of all.

I'm having a deja-vu, just like when people were shocked to hear that Coinbase holds more coins than binance and okex and huobi combined, how could this be possible, all the trades were happening in China, how, how?? Grin Grin

I'm not sure where your frustration comes from - might be time to double check if stupid nationalism really comes from me, never did I state or even suggest that Romania is above any other country, lol. The best example I can always give is stuff that I see in my country because I live here.. Cheesy

In fact, this is the definition of an ATM according to Wikipedia:
Quote
An automated teller machine (ATM) is an electronic telecommunications device that enables customers of financial institutions to perform financial transactions, such as cash withdrawals, deposits, funds transfers, or account information inquiries, at any time and without the need for direct interaction with bank staff.

And this is the definition from Merriam Webster:
Quote
ATM: [noun] a computerized electronic machine that performs basic banking functions (such as handling check deposits or issuing cash withdrawals) — called also#R##N# automated teller machine, automatic teller, automatic teller machine.

, meaning that as long as it performs a basic banking function such as handling check deposits or issuing cash withdrawals, you could call it an Automatic Teller Machine. Same goes for the newer functions we have at some ATMs such as exchanging funds directly from them - or depositing foreign currencies directly into them. To me at least, a Bitcoin transaction could be counted as a banking tx too - you're basically exchanging some fiat banknotes into a digital cryptocurrency.

If you take the definition of a vending machine, you'd find out that the definition of an ATM sounds way closer to the machines I said aren't counted among the 8k. I'll leave two definitions here, from Business Dictionary and Dictionary, respectively:
Quote
Electronic machine used to disperse a product to a consumer after a certain amount of money has been put into the machine. Vending machines are commonly used to disperse beverages and snack items, but in recent years companies have introduced vending machines that disperse other items, even including electronic items such as digital cameras or iPods.
Quote
a coin-operated machine for selling small articles, beverages, etc

I only said there are a lot of places you could buy Bitcoin from that don't show up on the map of 8k ATMs and most people think that the mahcines you can also cash out from are the only ones you can get a BTC from. I honestly believe that an automated machine that lets you buy crypto with cash directly but doesn't let you cash out should be counted as an ATM too. Calm down maybe, nobody tried to hurt your lovely country. Cheesy

It is strange that there are more than 6000 Bitcoin ATMs in the United States alone and about 2,200 or less in 72 countries around the world !!! This is weird and most surprising that the United States does not accept bitcoin yet !!!
These are strange and somewhat sad contradictions.

I guess this is because it is easy to install, maintain and laws (about installing a device or smth like that) are soften than in other countries. If you are or were in US, you might have noticed, that ATM's are installed everywhere. Even the smallest shops with cheapest goods have an ATM. You can find ATM in barber shop or tattoo studio for example. I think that you might even install ATM in WC. Or ATMs might be private property of real estate owner.

Take a look on Europe. ATMs are installed on the distance of 200-500 meters from each other. Or on Africa and countries near Iran/Iraq. You would be lucky if nearest ATM would be in 1km range.

So Austria and Switzerland, with a population of 17 million have more ATMs than....all of Asia, Africa, and South America combined, 6.2 billion.
Actually, in terms of ATM/pop they are on par with the US.

It seems really strange to say the least, but considering that it is also facts that are easily verifiable, we can say that the interest in Bitcoin is still the highest in the USA, unlike the rest of the world. Can we connect this with purchasing power, with the manufacturers of ATMs or some conspiracy theory that would go in the direction that behind all there are some hidden interests to position the USA as number 1 when it comes to Bitcoin? After all, such things require the blessing of the state and a relatively friendly attitude towards crypto, which we can see on the other side of the world when it comes to Austria and Switzerland, but also some other countries like Slovenia or maybe Croatia where crypto can be bought in post offices, or in specialized offices (llike a crypto bank) where on a daily basis you can buy/sell up to 1000 EUR without KYC (for the time being).

The problem is not the companies, the problem is that people in 3rd world countries don't have one important thing, MONEY!

I am not that close to the area where the ATM is located so I am not actually sure if people are using it. Union Bank set up a Bitcoin ATM in Manila. “The Bitcoin ATM” is located in the bank’s main branch, UnionBank Plaza, Meralco Ave. cor. Onyx St., Ortigas Center, Pasig City." This is a way for my countrymen to know and use Bitcoin, the only problem is where to use it and how.

This makes me think because I haven't seen any Bitcoin ATM yet, does it require verification first? Or do you need to acquire a card just like the usual ATM we use? Or to make it short, does Bitcoin ATM require KYC?

If not, this will be beneficial for those who want to stay anonymous with their transactions.
I haven't got any bitcoin ATMs nearby either, because it is still not a thing for very small cities like mine, but  I guess that that machine can be fed with either credit card, debit card or cash. Correspondingly, in order to stay anonyomus you have to use the third option with physical cash, plus you have to hide your face while doing crypto things because of hidden cams in ATM. I personally don't like the idea of buying cryptocurrency via ATM, because such exchanges require very high fees to make a deal. It is only option for those who have not found other ways to buy crypto.

I wonder if bitcoin ATM's would be the solution for the incomplete anonymity that bitcoin provides to its users. Most of the time it is questioned because most of the users are conducting KYC procedures to make sure they can buy bitcoins but with the invention and development of bitcoin ATM's people could just put their money and enter their wallet information to make sure that they can buy bitcoin.

This makes me think because I haven't seen any Bitcoin ATM yet, does it require verification first? Or do you need to acquire a card just like the usual ATM we use? Or to make it short, does Bitcoin ATM require KYC?

We need more of this ATM machine especially in the third world where many people doesn't have the technology or gadgets to learn about Crypto and how to buy and sell it, even with slow internet.
It should not only be focused in some few countries. That way we should able to grow the Crypto community and achieve faster adoption.

This bitcoin adoption is what we need, it will become easier for us to use bitcoin in many transactions whenever we use it. It is less hassle especially if we have a Bitcoin ATM in our place, and I'm hoping for more bitcoin ATM Machines all over the world. In Asia, there are a lot of countries which don't have these bitcoin ATM machine because of poverty and issue with the legalization of bitcoin. It is so much hard for the people who use bitcoin if the country where he live is not allowing bitcoin to manipulate in their economy like India and Iran. By that, I think we need to improve more bitcoin adoption all over the world and for me, this Bitcoin ATM is not enough, we should increase and operate more.

The thing is, the number might not be accurate. This totally depends on whether you also consider terminals that only sell Bitcoin as part of the ATM list too.
So yeah, it totally depends whether you count these terminals too or not because if you do, then there are lots of options around you that you probably missed. Smiley

ATMs are the ones from which you can get cash with your card or cheque, they have been like this for half a century:

The ones where you can only insert cash and get your product are vending machines.

It's not me who has missed anything, it's the standard definition and there is no point trying to starting to bend it just because of stupid nationalism, if we do it like this USA still is number one by far since it has 400 000 locations where I could get cash from my Wirex card loaded with crypto. Having that bitcoin ATM machine in your own country would be great for you, it would be easy for you to pull out or to invest bitcoin. Actually, it's not that so a big number of ATM machines because in normal banks or ATM machines those 8,000 can be considered only for one country, it only shows that the use of bitcoin AT machicryptocurrencies too familiar all over the world. Just like in our country we don't have that thing, hoping that in the future we would have something like that and we will also be able to adopt more of using bitcoin.

So 7000 such ATMs are located on one continent, and the other 1000 are scattered around the rest of the world. This shows nothing more than that one part of the world is obviously making tremendous progress in that direction, while the rest is lagging far behind.
Well said, it just meant that the USA is more familiar and know about the use of cryptocurrency, they are the one who will have lore advantage of using it in the future.

Worldwide? Then why is the majority of it located in the US? A big problem in terms of adoption imo. Well, nothing we can really do about it tbh. Not to mention the various regulations that countries impose upon Bitcoin, there is also a need for a community to build upon the foundations of an Bitcoin ATM in a country. If anyone just willy nilly built a Bitcoin ATM, most likely than not, with how opportunistic some people are, it'd only turn into ATM scams and would most likely just become a negative influence for Bitcoin itself. Still, with how high Bitcoin ATM fees are, I'm pretty glad they're only at the US so far. I don't doubt that fees would probably explode if placed in third world countries just because.
I don't believe in crypto ATMs, they're definitely not the way to mass adoption.

Most of them have a ridiculously high exchange fee of between 7-10% (some even more), and most now require KYC verification to use.

Why the hell would I go through all of that, when I can do exactly the same through Coinbase for a far lower fee and have the money in my account within seconds?

STRONG PASS ON CRYPTO ATMS.
Not only KYC, if some random people started plotting against people using the ATM, then it'd be quite easy to track him/her. Privacy? Dead. Whether it be through KYC or not. Well, it's just a small adoption of a system that can be used even when outside and no internet access I suppose, but still inefficient since really, internet is already a thing. Some even provide it for free.

The majority of the number of Bitcoin ATM is located only in one continent and maybe some countries may have only one or a couple of ATMs available. So, I think this doesn't clearly signify mass adaptation. I am not familiar how much the fee is, but I think only few people uses BTC ATM since you will have to undergo KYC plus the inconvenience of going to the location to buy or cash out. Buying it through a platform using credit card will always be the best option.

I have been following Crypto ATM's quite closely in Italy.
They used to be a nice way to buy bitcoin in a Privacy oriented way. Actually some of them allowed the user to buy Crypto without being KYC'd (like I described in my thread Comprare Bitcoin senza KYC: Bitcoin bancomat a Milano rispettoso della Privacy - sorry- in italian).
As in the EU the KYC/AML5 directive has made the legal use of such instruments very difficult, and for sure a KYC-less use is now borderline illegal (with some nuances, as detailed in the linked thread), I am progressively losing interest in this channel to buy Bitcoins.

Higher fees were justified by the privacy these ATM warranted to the user. If such advantage is not guaranteed anymore, then I prefer the efficiency (cost and liqidity wise) of traditional exchanges.

However, that's a good way to make Bitcoin more popular.

True, that's one reason one crypto people are staying away from Bitcoin ATM is because of the exorbitant fees. Bitcoin ATM operators are simply creating a 'fake' demand here, and just build their ATM brand across America but only minority are using them.

And if people are going to use ATM, its just for the 'experience' and tell their friends about it.  Smiley

There might be some delays on other places due to the pandemic or there’s no much demand on using BTC ATM and in my country you can see that machine in one place only which is very impossible for other people to use it. This is already a good number for a new currency, but since making online transactions are more easier, maybe people still have to do this online instead of going out just to transact on Btc atm. It will still grow in time definitely we just need to wait for more demand in the market.

When viewed from the percentage the figure indeed jumped dramatically. And the country with the largest number of Bitcoin ATMs is The US, which is 6000 Bitcoin ATMs. In this country, Bitcoin ATMs have increased since March by 17%. What a fantastic number. This proves that many more people can use this ATM more easily. This will then become a normal and usual thing to use in some countries. However, for countries that do not yet have it, I hope they will soon adopt this. However, maybe they are indeed constrained by the laws in force in the country. In addition, another influence is the urgency of people who use Bitcoin ATMs in a country.

We need both increment in number of ATMs available and decrement in fees involved. Personal traders mostly provides a margin upto 10% of buy and sell while the bitcoin ATMs averages about 20%. Most people look for ATMs when they are not in their locality and such high fees would certainly make them think of other ways to carry money.

I think the high percentage margin, is one of the bottlenecks why many of us is not using bitcoin ATM.
I, for example, would just transfer my money to my local exchange and convert it to fiat rather than get my fiat via ATM.
And I guess most of the bitcoin ATM users are those that wanted to try using this machine or they have no choice at that moment but to cash out some of their crypto.
But increasing the presence of bitcoin ATMs would lead some noncrypto users to check out this new currency, thus, may increase adoption in the process.

AFAIK, Switzerland and Austria are both countries that quickly adapt to what's new. Austria had a lot of ATMs years ago when Romania only had one.

The thing is, the number might not be accurate. This totally depends on whether you also consider terminals that only sell Bitcoin as part of the ATM list too.

Romania has two providers that don't show up on CoinATMRadar for example unless you choose specific filters, and these providers are little machines you could only buy BTC from (they probably don't count as ATMs though). One of them is Qiwi which is also available in Russia, and as you can see we have a LOT of Qiwi terminals in Romania we could buy BTC from but those aren't counted among the 8k! The second terminal is NTS Pay which runs on the Qiwi soft too. NTS Pay probably doesn't show up on Coin ATM Radar even with specific filters.

Years ago we had ZebraPay selling Bitcoin too - there were thousands of terminals available literally at 2-3 streets away from you no matter where you lived. I guess it somehow went wrong now that they aren't selling crypto anymore.

So yeah, it totally depends whether you count these terminals too or not because if you do, then there are lots of options around you that you probably missed. Smiley

The number of crypto ATM's worldwide has grown to more than 8,000 just a month after passing the 7,000 mark in March.
It shows continued growth of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency.

Nice number, but there is only one problem in that story - more than 6200 crypto ATMs are located in the USA + almost 800 in Canada. So 7000 such ATMs are located on one continent, and the other 1000 are scattered around the rest of the world. This shows nothing more than that one part of the world is obviously making tremendous progress in that direction, while the rest is lagging far behind.

Buying and selling crypto on ATMs is obviously quite popular in North America, although in most cases it is the most expensive way to buy or sell crypto. But I think that such devices are not only a place to buy and sell, but also a kind of promotional points for Bitcoin. Some people are certainly interested in Bitcoin when they see such devices, probably because they equate it with ordinary fiat ATMs that have become so important for some time that there is a real panic when a mass breakdown occurs and people cannot get their money.
