Its worse time for all those who invested at ATH because altcoins have lost 95% of value already and at the same time its a good time for those who start building portfolio since the beginning of altcoin downtrend, this market favour some and disfavour others

As your graph shows, If we leave Bitcoin, al other are just going down and not early signs of coming back to previous glory.
I think this is because, now a days, everything has scattered and people(investors) dont know where to go. One of thee reason is lack of confidence in these investors.
Where as , the leader is still looks promising and unbeatable.

That graph is only for 2019 right ? We all knew that 2019 was not a good time to trade altcoins especially in q1 and q2 but there is still hope for q3 and q4 for the accumulation zone which in my opinion already began. You will be surprised to see what 2020 and 2021 will bring for good altcoins and I'm taking only for a few of them.

If you hold bags of dead coins better dump them before they go to 0 as most of them took 90% from initial investors and they don't plan to ever come back to that price. Just have a look on ROI on every major altcoin and you will see that almost none of them return something to the investors since the last bull run. Furthermore they won't even think to exit scam as they already did long time ago ( check masternodes per example and you will see what I'm talking about ). Another problem will be the fact that people will keep buying dead altcoins, keeping them alive in some way when they should get abolish from the markets.

It doesn't really matter. Altcoins didn't really exists as a thing back then. While I still believe CMC chart is very vague, misleading and pretty unaccurate (because it shows an actual lower % of BTC domination than it really is because of reasons explained above in another post I made) it's still pretty telling:

https://coinmarketcap.com/charts/#dominance-percentage

Altcoins ere a fad, a come and go thing. I give it another go, another chance to dump your coins during the next Bitcoin craze to $100k. That will be when the tide finally shifts and even the dumbest guy in town already knows altcoins are scams to get more BTC from the unexperienced.

Unless an altcoin comes up with groundbreaking stuff at the fundamental levels, we are going back to 95% BTC dominance (real, not CMC levels) easily. By CMC levels, I think we can hit 75 to 80% during the next 5 years.

that is a painful fact, i really realize now that the altcoin market will never return like a few years ago.
but i can't give up now, i will continue to hold on to my strong belief that someday there will be a time for altcoin to grow.

Not all altcoins. I am sure that the strong altcoin will come back at a high price. The weak altcoin will not increase too high because they don't have strong support from their fans. I am sure that many people still hold on their altcoin because they believe the altcoin season will come back again and will give them the profit. No matter it is hard, that is what you need to do.

Even if I propose or plan to dump, do they really worth something? This is the question I ask myself whenever I have the opportunity to dump, which is why I still end up holding some of them. Imagine selling and not being able to withdraw. Sometimes, the gas fee might have taken bulk of the whole cost.
It is a hard decision to make.
Well spoken ''do they worth something when you sell it off''?  That's what runs through my mind each time I want to dump. I can't dumb something that has no value, it's better for me not to sell it at all until I see good profit

With really good project maybe not waste our time for holding some altcoin, but look now how many altcoin serious for building their project after listing and price drop, have they are trying buy back for keep price stable and higher? No one altcoin owner look want to re build after their coin drop to lower price.

Agree with this opinion, which is different and a problem of the cryptocurrency market compared to the stock market is the company's commitment or crypto, the developer team. In the stock market, when prices fall, the company is committed to raising share prices in various ways including buy on the floor. Whereas in the cryptocurrency market, the developer team tends to be indifferent and like letting investors lose money

that really hurts. even if we all felt it, it hurts even more when you get it really shown. even the upswing that has
been addressed for quite some time does not really come. but currently only sitting out and waiting helps.
and of course very good if you keep most of the portfolio classic in bitcoin.

really sad but this is the truth. I am one of the people who believe in alts technology and now I have to face the biggest loss ever. But never mind, don't worry, alts' value is only underestimated this year. next year, I believe the top alts will grow strongly again and Bitcoin will sideway at $ 10k.

Stop deluding yourselves, the altcoin market is not coming back, and if it does come back, you better dump whatever you have left because there are no chances of it pumping ever again beyond an exit scam. Smart money has learned to stop pumping shitcoins. Altcoin continue to sink against BTC. Dollar valuations don't matter because altcoins have no liquidity outside of BTC, so with BTC pairs going down you are going to lose purchasing power during the process. And still, they eventually keep going down against assorted fiats too.

Bottomline is, you are holding a massive hot potatoes bag by having a diversified "crypto portfolio" in altcoins. Sure there will always be the odd ones that pump, but that's worse than going to the casino. You might as well trade regulated penny stocks if you want to bet on low caps going to the moon, where there are less chances of getting screwed over by massive scammers. At least you surely lower exchange rate risk (and most of those shitcoins are listed in shady exchanges).

Unfortunate, but true. I have been monitoring the performance and behavior of altcoins for a long time now, and they are only sinking deeper. The charts don't lie, going after BTC seems like the only safe thing to do rn.

It's not guaranteed the market will always behave according to the chart. I did not give up on altcoins. I still believe altcoin glory will come back again anytime but by holding from long I am in huge loss even I agree most of the altcoins are at their bottom. I will remain positive because I believe in the potential of the crypto market.
Sometimes having a good knowledge with when to hold and to buy more is very important things in this industry. Alts that have a huge fall after booming last 2017 can be a good option for investment. Projects that continuing and keeping the project alive are just waiting for another wave of the bull season. After some months or years, the long wait will be rewarded to those who believe on it and will enjoy enormous benefits. Don't lose hope and stay being positive with projects that you understand well and trust your investment.

I agree with you. Because the chart is not right always which was proved in the previous year and in 2018, altcoins situation was far worse than now. ETH price was 85 USD! But the crypto market bounced back and the same thing will happen again. This is a tough situation for altcoin holders but we are already used to with it.

There is quite a lot of shitcoin circulating and stored in the wallet of the investor or prize participant.  In my opinion it's not worth keeping, especially for prize hunters.  Investors may still have the expected goals of the project because they clearly spend money to get it.
Even though it's still not sure if it won't be pumped, it shouldn't be maintained while it is still possible to sell.
Everyone has a perception, believe in yourself and do it.

Almost all altcoins continue to follow the development trend of bitcoin price. Due to the speculative component of cryptocurrency, the general trend will be unstable for a long time and force players with weak nerves to sell their assets on a downtrend.

Many traders and investors sell their altcoin at low price, due to panic. The reason behind is loss of experiences and loss of patience.Panic will be the worst thing, which traders will get easily. If they inverse their real money for trading. Altcoin is the best one to inverse with a less capital.

Anyone who is late in the alt season will be stuck holding some expensive bags. An expensive bag that may never return to the highest price before. However, most crypto investors held out hope for the promise of an "alt season" - a period in which sales in the asset class were completely depleted, and low liquidity combined with FOMO significantly raised the price of each altcoin in a short amount of time. Such an event brought a lot of crazy returns at the peak of the Bitcoin bull rate.

If tokens are an application to real business, then they will still rise in price even after three years of a bear market. The price of the token, this is only a reflection of the current state of the cryptocurrency market, and not the state of the token project. Therefore, I do not think that we need to get rid of old tokens as absolutely useless. I believe that at least a certain part of them is still able to give us good profit.

We're sharing the same fears here, the fear of the death of altcoins. That's one of the nightmares that i keep dreaming of and i almost can be assure that the future of "some" altcoins will be death. Even if only one token or coin dies, it will mean that alot of fiat will be lost, that will affect alot of other projects and especially the cryptoworld in general. That will cause a dump. There's no solutions here but just hope for a brighter future, that's it.
Fear is the main enemy in trading business. Competent analysis should make your balances more stable...so teach yourself to research the market using coingecko.com or other resources.

Holding altcoins in a long term will be effective only if it has a potential to increase in the future, or promising.
And if that happens there is a probability that you can earn big in the future, however if you hold the wrong altcoin
time will will turn into waste only, so be careful and be wise before anything else.
if I bought 1000 coins for 1 eth, then if these coins grow and my profit is 1.5 ethers, then I sell tokens for 1 eth and I leave 0.5 eth in this coin for long-term
Not bad not great. As a crypto trader, if you can increase the portfolio value and you have trading skills for boosting the crypto portfolio you are good to go. There have been a worst days and it is always possible to see a bad days but what matters is to keep faith as a crypto enthusiast. Initial investment amounts are usually higher than 1 Ethereum worth token value but this value fluctuate along with the market cycles.

Hearing some analyst say that altcoin will seize to exist in the next five years, I think they are not far from truth because these step you want to take is one of the killer of altcoins, most investors of altcoins that we have now are no longer putting money, and then they are also not creating awareness for new investors to come in, even the new investors that are coming in are being discourage seeing what others are saying about altcoins.

You are here too already planning to dump all altcoins as soon as they pump, and I am sure that if you succeed in doing that, that will be the end of altcoins, and I think part of me will actually do that too for coins that I feel are not to be trusted and maybe I will just stick with coins that are within the top 5 and most especially bitcoin, which is the main coin that most investors are putting their money now.

The main problem is people investing in "crypto" don't understand that cryptocurrencies are adversarial in nature. It took me years to realize this... but basically, for a crypto to have value, it has to be able to survive on it's own, irrespective of what regulations are being put in place. In order for this to be viable, the token must have a decentralized network. Now the obvious question and answer: Does any other coin but Bitcoin have the characteristics to be called decentralized? No. Because of this reason alone, all other these tokens are nothing but fiat derivatives, the underlying fundamentals are flawed, they can never have any relevant, hard-money-like long term value.

Yes. I believe there are still potential altcoins that will survive in this crypto market and if we just keep holding them, we will still be able to make good income from them. Although those profitable days for altcoins are already gone, but we should not lose patience in hoping that potential altcoins will still be profitable in the coming months or years as its price will keep pumping until it reaches a good selling price.

therefore we have to do an analysis on the potential altcoin, the risk of choosing investments in new coins or tokens the risk is greater. if we know the pattern, when the dominance of BTC decreases, usually the trend up to altcoin starts to appear. Analyze the floor, take a chance if it will bounce immediately. But remember, choose a strong altcoin, which already has a niche and market power.

Most of the altcoins I've been holding for long term have reduced my funds with wide margin. I bought DENT at 25 sats when I saw many big development updates for instance, but today DENT is at 4 sats. I also bought NPXS and BTT, those are nothing to write home about presently with regards price, even with their solid projects as acclaimed. I understand BTC presently is also on a downtrend but it's far better than holding some altcoins for long, since the team might decide to dump and blame it on the market per say. Let's just hope things get better in crypto space, my experience has been horrible with altcoins.

When I come across this kind of opinion or statement, I always ask myself how the crypto market would be without altcoins. I'm not disputing the kingship of bitcoin, but altcoins brings more dynamism and diversity to the crypto industry. The shitcoins are as good as dead, but for the genuine ones that offer real good usecase to the world, I can't but to wish them success.

Hi,
For me, the trend regarding altcoins is once bought, you have no other option to sell it as soon as possible (with profit) flushing the market progressively.
Thousand of computer/AI around the world are tracking opportunities, influencing artificially exchanges.
Billions of crypto-tokens are flowing from the cryptospace to the exchanges to be converted in BTC, leaving the value near from 0 sat.

The altcoin are so fragmented, no adoption, why the hell would I buy/hold monaco coin or crowd machine token ? No one use these tokens, there is nothing you can pratically do with it.
Most of the time while trading, I don't care about coin purpose but playing the opportunity.

Is there anyone sharing  my opinion ?

You are absolutely right! The present situation is the worst for altcoins! The whole crypto market is down now, but still, Bitcoin holds more than 68% dominance and altcoins investor has barely profit in this whole year! In the next three months, Altcoins market cap will be decreasing too! So, you are very right here!

If you can't calculate time and doesn't have take profit/ stop loss point, any " hold " strategy will fail. We never know market will go and I think prepare for the worst is better than just wait new trend. Faith is good but must support by wise analysis, if don't you're a gambler. I already have bad experience about hold method but I never give and keep try " hold " with cut loss position to cover my asset.
stop-loss is a very important tool for those people who have decided to just hold altcoins. but unfortunately, very few people use it now.

That's true but if you are the kind that believes in the future of your coins you're not going to use and will just go all out hodling that coin until you really lose everything but I agree there should be a point that you will cut your losses but if you cut loss it should be because developers lose hope on there coin.

just be careful that your "believing" in the future of your coin is not only because someone else told you to believe by hyping that coin to you. which is the case with most people, they fall for the advertisement and the "pretty words" when they are promised a lot of things that can never be delivered.

Maybe hold strategy will work for the long term because, in a short time, the price will always change, and that is difficult to keep. There is no way we can do to prevent the price for up or down, but we can sell some amount if the price increase. No matter if bitcoin or altcoin is going to increase, we should make a strategy on how we can take the profit. Holding the altcoin can work in the short term and once the altcoin price increase so high, that is the time for us to sell the altcoin.

As of today bitcoin doesn't look that good neither Cheesy. Crypto is not something that will give you sunshines and rainbows all the time, we all lived that 1500 dollar ethereum times where every single coin made at least x10 profits to its owners but we also have to go through this period as well so that when the next bull run comes we are all ready and did our due.

After that new bull comes to altcoins eventually there will be new people and those people will lose money and feel like you, however you did your due time and you will be selling at high prices and taking your profits and be happy compared to them. We just have to be patient and wait for the price to go back up, eventually it will happen, it may take some time but it will eventually happen one day.

The fact that btc isn't exactly stable or destined to always go in a straight line upwards tends to get overlooked in these sorts of threads. So when btc is doing great, we see a ton of 'altcoins are doomed, hold and you get rekt' threads. But it's not like btc is some sort of magic coin immune to ever going down. And based on history, this is all cyclical, sometimes btc does well, sometimes alts do.

I don't think we'll see another 10x crazy alt season again for every coin, but that doesn't rule out some alts going up 10x -- especially since many were crushed like 2x or more since this summer. Regardless, it is certainly possible that in the future we'll look back at current alt prices and think 'Only if I bought them when they were so cheap'. I know I do that for ETH and coins 3-4 years ago.

as long as altcoin I am still widely used for trading and investment. I won't worry about that, besides that I also hold the highest altcoin in the market so I'm sure if the market has stabilized we will see the glory of altcoin again.
True, we must keep our investments and wait for the best moment, particularly I use the Mintme platform and secure my investments in Webchain. Also with Mintme, I have access to the other traders, see the token profiles for sale, and I can even communicate with the creators.

if you hold a lot of altcoin then the risk you have is very high because altcoin cannot provide any guarantee whatsoever, you better save a little altcoin but it has the potential to be very expensive so you can get a lot of benefits from the altcoin price movements that you have.
Now many people are ready to take these risks because the market situation is very bad. people buy altcoins in anticipation of big profits in the future due to the strong losses that we see for 1.5 years

Many investors who become altcoin as a speculation tool because the movements are quite extreme. I agree that to be safer investing in altcoin is altcoin which is in the top 5 because altcoin already has a product and is very liquid

You are very correct, altcoins have just kept going down and down, seem everything is fading away due to bitcoin dominance  but all we have to do is watch and wait a little longer, at the end of the tunnel might be a green light.

What is needed by altcoin investors right now is patience. With market conditions dominated by bitcoin, it's hard to expect an altseason in the near future but I still think positively that altseason will happen sooner or later

True, we must keep our investments and wait for the best moment, particularly I use the Mintme platform and secure my investments in Webchain. Also with Mintme, I have access to the other traders, see the token profiles for sale, and I can even communicate with the creators.
At less more the 95% average loss on altcoins, it looks more difficult to let go now, there could be chances for a bitcoin pair pump in coming months if the project can work on the hype and use,as bitcoin has it slight dump. For the cases of scam allegation on any held coin should allow one to let go. Am more attentive to scam allegation than the price dump

I believe it you have a graph and data to back it up and I'm also experiencing it that, I never thought that it's going to happen, so many projects are being launched without a return of positive feedback, there are so many project reports in the scam section, this is really not the best time to invest in a new coins or altcoins with no usage.

This is partly true, not all altcoins will end in the dustbin of history or exit scam. Some have real life application, but I can't gurantee how well the price will grow in the future. Some altcoins like CET and Miracle Tele have dealt a big blow and took me to point zero, even FX pay. Bitcoin remains the best.

Any coin that offers something great in the future will do great. We are becoming too focused on price instead of merit
This is indeed the correct reasoning. Many altcoins have working projects. The price of these altcoins now is a reflection of the current state of the market, where Bitcoin has a price dominance. Therefore, the market itself is a bit curved due to such a dominance of bitcoin. Altcoins will certainly grow in price. I do not agree with the conclusion that our tokens will never rise again. Everything has its time. Bitcoin's price dominance will inevitably fall over time, because in the end, functionality will be appreciated.

Now it's not like that anymore, Altcoin only provides losses because the dominance of Bitcoin still continues, but I also still hold some Altcoin in hope that someday can provide benefits for me even though as the OP said that we may have to sell when there is little pump occurred.

The graph looks depressing, but in addition to the picture reinforces your position on altcoins, I have not heard reasoned arguments in favor of the fact that it is necessary to get rid of them right now.

I offered you the only sane argument I can think off: Whales which are still stuck within the 2017 crash holding huge amounts of altcoin bags, planning to do the last exist scam within the next Bitcoin rally. As noobs look at "coinmarketcap" while Bitcoin is on mainstream news when it's about to hit ATH as usual, those whales may attempt to confuse the noob by luring them into buying some of those pumping shitcoins, only to dump on them bigly. This may be the last time for bagholders to leave the crazy train formerly known as "cryptocurrency diversification".

Other than this theoretical exit scam pump, I can't think of fundamentals strong enough for altcoins to maintain any sort of positive traction long end, and this includes Ethereum, Litecoin, Monero and the usual suspects. The ball is on your court to argument why should anyone bother having serious long term hold positions on any of that.
The arguments are certainly reasonable, but the situation may go according to another scenario. My point of view partially coincides with yours, but I would not be so categorical in my judgments. Only the time will show how the situation will develop.

it has always been a bad time to hold altcoins and at the same time it has always been a good time to pump and dump altcoins which makes them good for day traders who are willing to gamble a little.
that is the origin of the term "bag holder". it has never been a good idea to bag hold any of the altcoins even if you think their value is higher than when you bought them!
a quick look at the past year shows all altcoins without exception have lost at least 80% of their value and in most cases it is higher than 95% and is still growing.

While I am an avid supporter and fan of Bitcoin, I cannot imagine the whole world of cryptocurrency having only Bitcoin as the sole functioning coin. There are so many altcoins out there, that is a fact and a sad one because many of them are mere shitcoins. But I cannot just discount the existing altcoins that have contributed a lot to the growth and utility of cryptocurrency. Ethereum, for example, cannot be categorized with the rest. I will continue to have Bitcoin in my portfolio but I don't think it will be there alone and lonely.

There are some fundamental issues with BTC that some coins like NANO has resolved.
Some to mention:

* Transaction Fee
* Electricity consumption
* Transaction Time
* Scalability

you have neither of these issues with NANO.

I know something that has low transaction fees, low transaction time, and scales, it's called fiat. You could argue about electricity consumption, however NANO network is tiny. You are also assuming that NANO is truly decentralized. Until NANO or whatever altcoin you want to offer, hasn't had a multi billion $ marketcap with 0 hacks through a decade, and has been attempted to be subverted via forks, then your coin is pretty much worthless and definitely not a BTC replacement.

I agree with you. In late 2018, ETH price went to 86 USD, we kept holding our coins that time , then what happened in this year? Though BTC dominance shows that altcoins market has not that place in crypto, that's why everyone should only care about potential coin like ETH, LTC, TRX, BNB, KCS, GT and high volume exchange coins.

I do not believe that altcoins will somehow become better and more popular than Bitcoin but I do believe that a Bitcoin pump is coming and that it is inevitably going to repeat a crazy bull market of 2017. When that happens altcoins will follow it again and go up in value.

Maybe they won't even reach their ATH prices but they will go up enough to allow investors to take satisfying profit.

happen to alt market.Yes, you have seen those declining prices but you cant conclude on what would be their fate.We have seen in the past on the same movement where btc is spiking up and alts go down low but there were tendency on shooting up prices for sometime. We might able to say non good things now because of the current situation of the market but it doesnt mean that they would already have no chance of recovery. You cant stop people not to diversify with their portfolio and come to think there would be always a supporter on some projects too.

The simple answer to all of this is... it's not so simple. You can't claim anything in regard to crypto as a fact -- nobody knows where the markets will go. Those who state altcoins will never recover are those who simply hold BTC. Those who claim Alts will skyrocket once again, hold Alts.

All we can do is look at past history, and typically crypto works in cycles. BTC has its day, Alts have their day.

As for the charts, it's not like BTC is immune to any of this. It's still down like 50% from its previous highs. Sure, right now it's doing better than alts, but if you time the market right, it doesn't mean alts can't be profitable. I could just as easily say, get out of BTC now, it's doomed to failure, over half of your money lost! Go to gold, silver, stocks, as BTC is on shady exchanges that will steal your money! (No idea why the OP acted like all alts are on shady exchanges, most decent ones like coinbase, binance and so on handle both BTC and a zillion alts).

I know what you are saying and can feel your disappointment and personally i do think that the worst for alts is yet to come because btc is just gearing up for next parabolic run which will send alts under extreme pressure and possibly more dumps, there is only one hope and the only thing that can help alts to survive is the overall market cap. If the volume in market also grows proportionally or even higher than the growth of btc then we may see alts surviving around the current levels and may be grow in terms of fiat so we can just hope that market sees massive new volumes in coming months to support both btc and alts.

If you have been holding altcoins since late 2017/early 2018, then you are almost certainly completely rekt by now.

However, if you bought certain ones at the start of the year respective runs, then you could have gained against BTC. I mean, Stellar (XLM) and Ethereum (ETH) are both up significantly against BTC over the short term.

Be smart, get in and out quick, only BTC is safe to hold long term.

Crypto enthusiasts have the tendency to lump altcoins together. I have been trading altcoins for almost two years, and some projects have been steadily giving me profits, even during the bear period of BTC, it's almost about finding the right project and sticking to it.

ICOs are largely passed and new developers would struggle to raise funds for their projects, but already existing ones with a good use case offers investors options in revenue and also it's application
