What JoelKatz said. Personally, using Bitcoin-Qt, I elect to pay BTC0,00025 for the "free" transactions, but that is not forced. Forced fees with other transactions I've made have always been either BTC0,0005 or BTC0,001, usually the former.
Im a Newbie and now checking how this really works; so I wanted to send 0.00053165 but my wallet transaction process said I need to pay a +0.001 BTC for tranzaction fee what is the duble of the ammount what I wanted to send.
Then I sent 0.00003165 and payed 0.0005 BTC for teh fee so I used up all my bitcoins.
How is this at bigger rates? the fee get Bigger adn Bigger? So I should send my BTC's dirrectly to my MTGox account?
Very small transactions, transactions using very new coins, or transactions that have to pull in coins from lots of other transactions, look like spam. Fees for typical transactions are either 0, .0005BTC or .001BTC. No, the fee is not bigger at bigger rates. It is usually nonexistant with larger transfers. Mt. Gox would have much of nothing to do with the fee.
Oh, and btw, that is only for the reference client. Other clients may have different rules or no minimum fee at all.
