Does this mean we all together could buy the Cayman Islands?

Nope. If you have $1000 in your house, does it mean I can buy your house?

Do you have $1000?

Do you have a house?

If you have enough bitcoins, you can hire me to get you your own island in the Philippines. If you don't have enough for an island, I can get you a house instead, with 18 foot high walls and armed guards. I just watched Zero Dark Thirty, so that kinda inspired me.

I'm sure quite a few of those have substantial foreign-denominated deposits.

oh yes. also: it doesn't count regular bank deposits. Only deposits at non-banks. It's basically the cash floating around as I understand it.

Still fun, though, and: The so-called "Bitcoin market capitalization" is also purely cash, not counting any bank deposits.
