Thanks to everyone for your kind response.
I understand the whole proceed now and I think it's unimaginably prolific. Not sure what it is really gon' look like but I know that Theymos -- as a genius -- can't go all this way just to make something that's gonna be fucked up.
I'll be locking up this topic. Ofcourse,it purpose has been achieved until , maybe, further resolutions are desired.

Let's all trust the process, time will tell.
Cheers and thanks everyone.

I believe that in 2017, when I registered, the project was already underway.
In 2015 too Tongue
By now, I'm totally okay with sticking to this old SMF forum forever.
Yeah, that's what I remember as well.

I mean, come on....the forum has had the same basic layout and only tweaks to its functionality since its inception (from what I gather, anyway; I was not here in 2009).  Why change it now?  The late 2000s look it has sort of represents the staying power that bitcoin itself has, and if bitcointalk suddenly had a totally different appearance, it would be jarring to say the least.

Not to mention that I don't actually believe there's ever going to be that new forum software we've all heard so much about for so many years.  I think that's Theymos's idea of an extremely prolonged April Fool's joke.

Is the site gonna replace bitcointalk or is that gonna be a new name?
If it's another platform entirely, are we all still gonna register there?
What is this platform gonna be about? Bitcoin?
Original plan was that epochtalk totally replace this old SMF forum, with major design changes and security improvements.
Every data should transition there including domain, profiles with ranks, merits, trust feedback and compatibility with mobile devices.
It's easier said than done, and I am fine with using this good old software.

By now, I'm totally okay with sticking to this old SMF forum forever.
Forever?! Or for the rest of your life?
Unless you plan to transition yourself in metaverse to ''live forever'', but I am not sure they bitcointalk there Cheesy

You're saying this as if we had a choice.  Cheesy

The youth is intended towards social media these days more rather then focusing on more carrier oriented approach but say some out of them are inclined towards these hot topics as well bitcoin related but if we assume new forum software will attract more users especially the young ones then there's no guarantee in it but for the current members it will help a lot.

The only way the younger demographic would end up using Bitcointalk is to either:

1. When they Google something and landed upon Bitcointalk
2. To try to earn through campaigns

There are many things we are waiting for update and this new forum software is among one of them which has been coming from years and was happy with the latest addition of OP in the SMF patch from @theymos fast this time.

Very very unlikely. The younger demographic would almost always go for something like Facebook/Twitter/Reddit instead. Regardless, it doesn't change the fact that it's a much needed upgrade for the current users.

There are quite a few theads about it here, and I’d also look through the recent posts (2022) made on this thread .

You can take a look at what the software looks like here, although bear in mind that it is not a ported environment (i.e. DB content, profiles, boards, not even complete functionality such as Merits and so forth).

One thing to consider is that what is being created by intent is a software on which to run forums of all sorts (a kind of SMF if you will, from an abstract point of view), not just a custom implementation for a one-off forum called Bitcointalk. This means that software development is much more complex, as it has to work with open customizable concepts to support different forum configurations and functionality, and not just something 100% tailored only to Bitcointalk. This approach certainly is behind the massive overhead of time and resources being invested in the project, although on its own likely does not justify the delay.

Although we are waiting for ages now before we can migrate there.

I believe that in 2017, when I registered, the project was already underway. I don't know if a new version would attract younger people, but I don't know if they are that much of a forum user.

From what I remember seeing commented on, I imagine that the project is a bit up in the air and there is no scheduled (or expected) date of change.

What PX-Z said. Upgrades like this(assuming it actually happens at some point lmao) should only work in the back-end, without you needing to do anything. It would be totally incompetent(and really bad business-wise) of Theymos if we'd have to start everything from scratch.

Its only the name of the new under development forum software, you can call it a substitute to SMF/simple machine. Once migrated, all data here will be transfered there, host, domain name, etc. so there's no need to register again.
So the platform is still bitcointalk, its members, staff/mods, and admins. Although we are waiting for ages now before we can migrate there.

Yeah , I have been very active in the forum for about 3 months now and I have known every other thing I discuss about except one: "Epochtalk" .  I'm just tired of pretending to know this one thing when I don't.

I understand that it's a discussion site just like bitcointalk but my Point of confusion is;
Is the site gonna replace bitcointalk or is that gonna be a new name?
If it's another platform entirely, are we all still gonna register there?
What is this platform gonna be about? Bitcoin?

Please, I need answers cus honestly, it's something I dunno.
No insults, please.

RSVP ☺️
