A/C Tstat's are run on 24 volt AC,so you'll need a transformer (from an old air handler, check with a scrap guy) to power it & a relay to control high voltage, either 120 or 220 volts. But it can do what you want  Grin

Arh yes, that sounds like the simplest solution.

And if I put in this http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/BGVSFC.html
I can even tune the speed and reverse in winter!

Although now I will have spent nearly as much on the cooling as the BFL single!

Be careful what you order, most mains powered fans are not reversible.

Something like this is probably more along the lines of what you want http://www.ebay.com/itm/Adjustable-Thermostat-cooling-fan-filter-heat-exchanger-/230606915251?pt=US_Weather_Meters&hash=item35b13e46b3

I have an electrical cupboard with a lot of stuff (2 x 12 channel amps for whole house audio, TV signal Amp, PC, Hub, router, and BFL Single) all in a rack.

There is a 100mm vent to outside in the ceiling, but is still getting too hot.

I was going to install a fan in the 100mm ducting to blow the hot air outside (e.g. http://www.screwfix.com/p/manrose-axial-20w-bathroom-fan/11097), although could use 12VDC fan if easier.

But I was wanting to get it to be thermostatically controlled. (Ideally speed controlled dependant on temperate, and even more ideally switchable so that I can get it to suck in cold air in the winter so I get some free heating!).

Anyone got any ideas or rigged up any solutions to this?

Happy to do a bit of programming or soldering if I have to!
