Very interesting way to get a beer in bitcoin, I think in the future that will be normal as buying your groceries in any store. I hope the beer was good and cold Wink

Cashback 15%
Nice video. Nothing new and innovative but an interestingly cool gimmick for an advertisement. I doubt that it would really take that fast for you to get your beer since we need to take confirmation into consideration. Anyhow, double-spending would be ideal and lovely for beer-lovers who would still be on their right minds after a few drinks or so. Smiley

A very intriguing discussion and a great video overall. How were the prices on those beverages in the Bitcoin vending machine compared to the others? Were they more or less expensive as compared to handing over cash to buy a beer instead?

I recently visited Vancouver where I got to grab myself a bitcoin beer at D-Ctrl, and sit down with Mike from Coincards.

That's a good thing you can buy a beer with bitcoin somewhere. No way I'm trying to find anything bad in this, but it's really interesting to know how much did he pay in USD for that beer? I mean was it much more expensive than in the bar? Because I think if it was just 5-8% more expensive that's ok, but if it was 20% more expensive that's too much.

Do you need to wait for confirmation?

If not, just double spend and it's free booze all night, plus cost of transaction you'll end up paying a lot more for one beer.

This is useless.

They actually edited this video, so it actually looks like it was instant... but I figure the unedited version shows that they waited for a

while? {I might be wrong} I would say, a better way to approach this, will be to buy a pre-loaded card and then for the machine to

debit or credit your card, as you spend it. You can load say, 20 beers and then start drinking and when you see that your beer credit is

getting low, then you just top up the card... and continue with the party.  Roll Eyes
I think that's what that red light on the machine is for. You pay and can sit down and wait for the confirmation. When it comes, the light starts flashing and you know your beer is ready.
The idea is good, but soon nobody will pay $2 for a beer if they are forced to pay half of that in fees. It will be cheaper to just order one at the bar.

A fun gimmick but overwhelmingly useless. People have cash that costs nothing to spend. And it's even instant. Cool concept.

Yeah, however I remember that on luckybit deposits were almost instant. I mean after like 1 minute you had your account credited. Is there any risk for vendor when it's allowing deposits with no confirmation?
I can see that after 2 years site is still operating, so I guess they know what they are doing Wink

They sure aware of double spending. This video is maybe just for their marketing, I bet they all have to wait for their confirmation to have their beer.
It looks cool to them and people may use the machine just to impress someone. But definitely its more convenient to use the cash and you can even yell to the attendant to make it quick before your tongue dries.

vending machine has been made because people want more practical and instant to buying foods or drinks but vending machines use cryptocurrency is not good option because i can't imagine that people will start queue up on vending machines only to wait for confirmation of the transaction and get beer

It can be cool to put it outside a bitcoin company's office though. Nothing but a traditional ad.

I remember getting a beer with Bitcoin at De Central in Vancouver back in 2015.  The machine accepted zero confirmation for Bitcoin. The risk of a double spend is actually very low, if the network is not overloaded, so for small transactions many merchants, could in the past, accept zero confirmation Bitcoin transactions for small in person transactions. The attack had to be launched right a way and this did not give the attacker a lot of lead time to get away from the retailer's premises since the transaction could be confirmed at any time. This all has changed with the current situation where Bitcoin transactions can take days to confirm. In this situation the attacker can be long gone, even outside the country, before launching the attack, which could be as simple as double spending with a much higher fee.

Another option could be for the vending machine to use LTC since confirmation time is faster, it will not be as practical as using cash, but we must find ways to use our bitcoin outside the internet and vending machines could be a good option.

Well this is something new. But I would rather just pay with cash than to wait for 10-15 mins for tx to get confirmed.

Okay that was cool. But is it going to make a change?
It is just a vending machine and I think Coca Cola can make one just like this if they want to or of they are into bitcoin too.
This is not much of a help just a promotion of what? This will trashed by more people here. We need something better.
