  • Casinos are not notorious bad players like mixers. The reason they are prohibited from promoting in some places is just ethics and believes

theymos decision to ban mixers was forced due to numerous investigations and the seizure of mixers by the authorities, and all this is to protect the forum. As both he and the forum are under US jurisdiction, if the US bans crypto casinos, it will be reflected on this forum as well. Looking at what is happening, it is not an impossible scenario at all.

I understand too well that the actions of theymos is geared towards protecting the forum as he has said so many times about the forum domain being hosted in US and as well the activities of this forum is subjected to the decisions of the US government. I knew that a day like this will come when chipmixer website was seized and its activities were highly linked to the forum for advertisement. The negative activities of any mixer directly impacts the US government in the case of money laundering, sales and purchases of arms and more. But the activities of casinos doesn't impact the government much as the common negative effect is gambling addiction which is somehow personal to the citizens.

Gambling is already quite dominant on this forum and such a trend continues because it seems that this industry has best adapted and implemented crypto-currencies. Certainly, I can't shake the impression that gambling and all discussions about it maintain the "popularity" of this forum to a considerable extent.

Gambling industry is that one industry that embraced cryptocurrency wholeheartedly by making cryptocurrency as a means of payment and means of gambling. This did not make gambling more popular but also increased the adoption of cryptocurrency. It will be difficult to ruin the relationship between casinos and cryptocurrency.

Do I understand correctly that the reputation of forum participants is being discussed here?

As we all already know, theymos banned mixers. In this regard, users have accumulated many questions, but the theymos does not respond to them

Op Can't you see the mixer campaigns are just corrupt. So Theymos is a forum admin so whatever he decides is best  Because he will consider everything and then take a decision.

Casinos cannot be banned. Yea, this is because gambling has been in existence before this forum and bitcoin was created. But in the other hand, there is a mixer because there is Bitcoin.

I believe he meant gambling casinos advertising on the forum. No one could have predicted the events that have happened in the last couple of months. To be clear, signature campaigns can be banned altogether, that includes casinos, and other platforms advertising here. The forum doesn’t have control over what happens outside the bitcointalk community, if certain services are banned here, they can run their business and promotions elsewhere.
Yea, I understood the Op and yourself inclusive. Theymos has the right to stop any project from promoting here including casinos, or in the worse scenario ban signature campaign totally. But then, I believe very much that theymos will not ban casino because;
  • Casinos are highly regulated and licensed unlike mixers
  • Casinos are not notorious bad players like mixers. The reason they are prohibited from promoting in some places is just ethics and believes
  • Finally, before theymos banned mixers, there was a sign (when he instructed the staff members not to promote mixers). As of casinos, there's no such sign yet.

OP, you're intentionally living out your moniker – Shenanigan 🤔. That's truly what you're proving by attempting to drag theymos on an issue he already explained the new modalities to ending future repetition of the same hiccup. Anyway, be rest assured that theymos won't respond here. I will be shocked to the marrows if he does. Theymos takes his time before responding to very critical issues. We can't say what you've here is critical. For me, it's trivial.

He himself is a nobody.
Every nobody is a somebody and every somebody is a nobody. As paradoxical as that comment is, there's a line of truth lying therein. Examples of truth as painted in the latter abound in morgues.

Theymos has always been a stand-up guy in terms of freedom of speech and freedom in general

Everyone keeps writing that, but it's far from the truth.  r/bitcoin, which Theymos also runs, is heavily censored.

Theymos doesn't get involved with issues here, as he pays someone else to steal.

If he was given a court order, he couldn't confirm it even if he wanted to. So all of your questions will not get any answers. What is it exactly you want to achieve? Don't you know he can't answer to those questions?
Do I understand you correctly that you forbid me to discuss this?
He can't forbid you to discuss anything unless it's in his own self-moderated thread.

Reading the quote from Theymos regarding the lack of requests from law enforcement (which I assume means any government agency, but who knows), I take it he's telling the truth and thus the question doesn't need to be asked again IMO.  Theymos has always been a stand-up guy in terms of freedom of speech and freedom in general, so this move he made with regard to mixers I interpret as him seeing what's down the road and trying to proactively protect the forum.  He's in a tight spot, you know.  With the US government (and others) cracking down on crypto and scrutinizing mixing services, he probably knows what would happen if mixers were allowed to kick off their businesses here.

It says a lot that he's taken such an extreme action when he's never done anything like this that I know of before--but older members, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Why are some given powers (LoyceV, etc) while others are forced to delve into shit? This is not fair.
Probably for the same reason some are hired as mods, some are made merit sources, and some are on DT.  Trust, time, and dedication to the forum go a long way here.

I'm looking at the reaction users are posting after theymos announced he's going to ban mixers from 1st Jan. It isn't the end of bitcoin it's a change to what's allowed in the forum.

We're using the forum so we're bound by rules. They're made by theymos because he's forum admin. The step he's taken to ban mixers means it another rule. If ppl aren't happy here they should find a forum that's making them happy.

-

The answer to this thread is simple. This is theymos forum whether we like it or not because he is the person in-charge since Satoshi and Sirius leave the forum. His forum is rules. We should create new forum if we want to follow different rules.

Banning mixer is not the end for Bitcoin. Maybe his decision is temporary until mixer find a way to operate that is acceptable to the forum standards. But for now, demanding answers to all our questions will not change theymos decision since he already provide his point on how he come up to the decision.

Theymos reputation thread
This title is honestly catchy...it attracted me to this thread.

4) theymos, will casinos be next to be banned?

5) theymos, do you plan to introduce KYC on the forum if the authorities so require?

Yes, theymos will do that if the authorities request. Alternatively, he will shut the forum of try to move it to another part of the world. He said it.

I got so pissed that I wanted to leave this forum already, this shows that our my smallest actions will definitely affect how others I would react. I got over it after eating breakfast.

You don't have the right to say that, it's out of character. against whatever made up rule there is in my brain that I disagree with.

Lol, the image above is priceless, @Vod, I can really feel what you going through, I mean I just had 2 of my off topic posts deleted probably by admin(s), and I got so pissed that I wanted to leave this forum already, this shows that our smallest actions will definitely affect how others would react. I got over it after eating breakfast.
We all do things that we might regret later, I mean we might even say something to our loved ones but never apologize to them because of vanity.

I'm certain everyone feels the same, but this has to stop man, I have also decided to ignore those nobodies around here, but theymos is not one of them. You don't have the right to say that, it's out of character.

keeping asking questions:

6) theymos, are you stille here under account theymos? Please give us a sign that it's still you, not a FBI or SEC authorized person

I have it on pretty good authority that Theymos is dealing with federal agents now.  He himself is a nobody.

Where is the Thank You for all the years he's been running the forum?
Thank You for what? Because he surrounded himself with close favorites (LoyceV, etc) who do what they want here and no one scolds them for it. The forum has been dying for a long time. And the ban on mixers only exposed the long-standing growing mass discontent of users

Do I understand correctly that the reputation of forum participants is being discussed here?

Then I would like to discuss the actions of theymos, admin of this forum. theymos is also a member of the forum and must adhere to common principles of trust system. And this means he, as a user, is also subject to discussion. If the admin does not consider it necessary to adhere to his own trust system, then let him delete this topic immediately

Trust of theymos
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=35

This is not an accusatory topic. This is just a discussion of his actions. And questions to him

As we all already know, theymos banned mixers. In this regard, users have accumulated many questions, but the theymos does not respond to them

From everything I read on the forum, I formulate general questions that users have for the admin theymos

1) theymos, was there pressure to you from the authorities?
2) theymos, are you currently cooperating with the authorities?
3) theymos, do you have any unspoken agreements with the authorities?
4) theymos, will casinos be next to be banned?
5) theymos, do you plan to introduce KYC on the forum if the authorities so require?

Dear users, if you have questions for theymos, ask here, let's collect requests to him here in reputation section instead of clogging up the meta section

Excuse me but what the fuck is this for psycho witch-hunt? Theymos isn't owe you or anyone else a dime or need to answer anything. If you don't like how the forum is running you are free to leave at anytime or create your own.
Think for it a bit. if Theymos have problem with the authorities at the moment, you guys don't think he is stressed enough and have other things to worry about? Where is the Thank You for all the years he's been running the forum? Give him a break and try to support him instead of this.

If the forum shuts down tomorrow it will not be the end of this world or crypto or Bitcoin, even if many of you seems to think so.

His forum is rules.
Ok, then don’t tell any more fairy tales about decentralization on the forum.
Let's see what happens to him if all users leave the forum. Without users - a forum is nothing

But for now, demanding answers to all our questions will not change theymos decision since he already provide his point on how he come up to the decision.
No one has the right to prohibit discussing the admin's actions. If he doesn’t want to answer these questions, then that’s his choice. If admin's trust option is not blocked from distrusting or redtagging, it means he doesn’t mind being discussed. If admin was against being diststusted and redtagged, he would have blocked all these buttons on his profile. This means he doesn’t mind being discussed equally with everyone else.

Ok, here is what he said, I don't know if you can read between the lines or not, but I will give this quote, you better read it a few times, and go think about it what it actually means.

My goal is not to act in the best interests of the state. If that was my aim, I'd probably continue to allow mixers. My goal is to put in place as few restrictions as possible while keeping risks (for bitcointalk.org and its users) at reasonable levels. Centralized mixers have qualities which make them especially risky in ways which other things do not.

No, you can question anyone you want, I'm saying if he was given a court order, he couldn't confirm it, do you understand that?
By a court order, a person can only be ordered to prohibit engaging in any activity. It is impossible to prohibit a person to shut his mouth with a court order. Otherwise this is already an encroachment on the freedom of expression of a person, which is contrary to US law. Do you understand that?

1) theymos, was there pressure to you from the authorities?

You come here just to create fud? you should read all reply from Theymos and then make a thread. All your questions already answered so no need to repeat again.

Kindly read this

We've received no warnings or requests to change policy from law enforcement regarding mixers.

2) theymos, are you currently cooperating with the authorities?
3) theymos, do you have any unspoken agreements with the authorities?

answer is already given

Maybe Bitcoin will be banned in the US someday, and then I'll have to either shut down bitcointalk.org or find a way of moving it to some remaining territory of freedom in the world. That's the problem with centralized forums. I wish that more work was being done on creating decentralized, uncensorable, but also usable forums. I would love nothing more than to be able to shut down bitcointalk.org due to some decentralized solution making it obsolete. Find me a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working on this, and I'll donate to it.
