A company that host 2 million$ worth of equipment and doesn't have a single guard ?
They had video surveillance but nobody was checking it? What's the point of it?

If we talk about 600 s9, one of that things is supposed to weight close to 4 kg, the whole load would be at least 2.5 tonnes.Even if we consider they have driven the truck right next to the server room door, it must have took them at least an hour for all of this.

Rather than highly organized crime more like some inside job.

They could of been doing the theft a couple of pieces at a time and not all at once.
Also this would also make you think if it is an inside job if they were doing it between a two month span of December to January.
I can see that happening as they would be able to access the on/off switch of the security and surveillance  system.

we are talking about 600 computers not a handful of them! stealing parts at a time means months of stealing to get that much out.
not to mention that we are talking about computers that are working day and night and should continue to work, you can not take out a part of a computer or even one whole one and nobody notices anything is missing.

Stealing a 600 powerful miners is so obvious, no alarm or anything and no indications or whatsoever that his crime is a totally planned or professionally executed. 4 times it happen with a just a month in between the events and the security doesn’t even improve or if it is, why does it happen again and again?. Inside job is a big possible reason to it or the company themselves.

It's either that or the company is very negligent. Maybe they thought Iceland has lowest crime rate so they would be safe with only one lazy security guard. Seriously taking 600 miners is no easy job, even 11 people doesn't make it a quick job it'll still take some time.

Eleven people, including a security guard, were arrested in Iceland in connection with the theft of almost $2 million worth of cryptocurrency-mining equipment from local data centers.

Icelandic media are referring to the theft as the “Big Bitcoin Heist.” It’s not so much about the theft of Bitcoins themselves, though, but rather that of the equipment used to earn them.

According to the Associated Press, a judge on Friday ordered two of the arrested people to remain in custody.

There were actually four burglaries: three in December and one in January. The police held off from telling the public for a while, in order not to compromise their investigation.

Two of the burglaries took place on the southwestern Reykjanes peninsula, where local police commissioner Olafur Helgi Kjartansson said: “Everything points to this being a highly organized crime.”

There is always an insider involved in all these crimes.
So if it made some advancements in this case of theft the media should be able to tell if it was equipment which was infact going to be part of hashcoins production for the mining farm used to produce the hashpower of the hashflare part of their company.
I presume.

How could they do that?! It's really a shocking news for everyone for it might happen in our country but i think it's the best time to put awareness for each and everyone of us, not only in the companies with secured building but also those people who has virtual wallet.

It is not much different from other robberies taking place. Just that the thieves have become advanced and have knowledge about the latest advancements happenings on the society. This can only be prevented by having proper security in those places. If there was a similar incident in my country, I am sure that the thieves would have left everything untouched as they have no idea of bitcoins or crypto. Individual investors should also learn from this and never disclose their income or current holding in public.

Awful news, but at least the companies in iceland will now take new security measures to fight against what could become a new trend in organized crime, especially this year given how bitcoin mining in Iceland is becoming popular in the country.

A company that host 2 million$ worth of equipment and doesn't have a single guard ?

To be fair, I don't think anyone in Iceland expects a heist of this magnitude, they probably thought some surveillance cameras was more than enough.

How do you get off the island undetected with that amount of equiment? Or maybe they're still on the island setting up their own mining operation. How hard would it be to find them?
The reports say the police are tracking energy consumption so there's a high a chance that the rest of robbers will get caught along with the rigs once they turn on the equipment, and it shouldn't be difficult to find the mining equipment in such a small country with a population of almost 350k. The thieves are complete morons.

Slava Ukraini!
I'm not sure what to say about it. We all know that Iceland is very peaceful country with very smal criminal rate. And to steal so many graphic cards and other mining stuff they had to prepare very well.  I fell that it was some kind of inside job. They needed for lot of time to take everything from mining centre and also they needed for a truck to transport all that stuff. And seriously, this company didn't have person responsible for security. It took more than 5 or 10 minutes to make this theft, how nobody didn't noticed them?
This is quite alarming, seems many people are really learning how bitcoin can make them instant millionaire and even trying to get it through illegal acts. If stealing powerful bitcoin miners can be done I'm pretty sure time will come that hacking wallet will become an easy stuff for these thieves.
Please tell us, how wallet hacking can become easy stuff for hackers soon. Do you think that they have the most powerful super-computers? Even if they would have, hacking of wallets would be same as searching for a needle in a haystack.

Iceland is very peaceful country with little population and crime rate is very low.It is thinly populated in remote and rural areas (where most mining farms are located)
May be theft is very rare occurrence, they have not employed guards.
Forget about Iceland, even in countries like US,I don't think a security guard has been employed

600 powerful servers specifically designed to mine bitcoin. Plus 600 graphics cards, 100 processors, 100 power supplies, 100 motherboards and 100 sets of computer memory.

According to The Associated Press and Visir, those are the items a coordinated group of Icelandic thieves have stolen. And though 11 people have reportedly been arrested and at least two are still in custody, none of the stolen computers have yet been found by police.

The thefts, which occured between late December and early January, were reportedly captured on surveillance cameras by Advania, the server company hit by two of the three thefts. (The graphics cards, processors and so on were allegedly stolen from a home.) Advania had been offering its customers access to bitcoin-mining rigs, and it sounds like those were the type that were stolen. The Associated Press reports that the stolen computers are worth nearly $2 million.

"This is a grand theft on a scale unseen before," Police Commissioner Olafur Helgi Kjartansson said, according to the AP. "Everything points to this being a highly organized crime."

The AP reports that police are tracking energy consumption across Iceland in case the thieves turn on their new computers and place a strain on the grid, since that could potentially lead them back to the stolen computers' location
