Despite Apples claims of inventing the curved corner, these exact boxes have been available in varying dimensions at electronics hobbyists stores at least since the 1960s.

That might actually be the same original chassis or from the same manufacturer.  Saying "hey, what do you have that's this size?" is cheaper than "hey, design us a brand new custom case that's this size"
