In essence is there a masternode that can provide reward for providing the node by hosting a dedicated server for their network or something similar?
I know next to nothing about masternodes so if anyone could point me in the right direction i'd appreciate it. I do apologize if this is a dumb question.

well i never saw masternode without a certain sum coin to trigger the mechanics,  Grin

you suggesting relay node here, there is no such thing will happen on the coin ecosystem,

even staking or dynamics pos, and many ppl worried when using masternode, hacker stole the coin, this happen as usual

to my knowledge it should technically be possible because a master node is simply a full node that is responsible for verification of the transactions, ensuring the integrity of the blockchain, and building the blockchain, ... and getting paid for the "work" they do.
but so far nobody has been able to come up with a design that both ensures the decentralization and makes it fraud proof. so they have to add some level of centralization and enforce the node owner to make a large investment in that coin and lock the funds up too.

BTW you are asking the right questions.

There's no masternode that didn't require the coins. All of master nodes will always require the coins to be used as a requirement to be the masternode coin. It's not a problem even you are calling it a dumb question but there's no such thing exist right now.
