This is the reason why people are predicting a major price rise for monero. It is more widely used in the dark markets so it might in future move above bitcoin, if retailers do not adopt it

Any use is better than no use I think, although I do not like much the link between bitcoin and the dark weeb although there is where everything comes from, it is true that we do nothing keeping a coin for years waiting to explode, it is better to continue increasing the volume doing transactions to grow the community.

I saw this post in reddit and I completely agree with the OP: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/9z0k1v/unpopular_opinion_those_who_use_bitcoin_to_buy/
"I’m not the first person to say this and I won’t be the last, treating bitcoin as an investment and leaving it in a wallet for years at a time does nothing for the coin or the community. As much as it puts a bad taste in congressional mouths and casts a dark shadow on bitcoin, people who use it to buy stuff on the dark net are using bitcoin for its intended purposes

You know, as a currency?"

I think I've been saying this for so long now. Until the time comes that bitcoin is used as a currency, it's never going to be stable. If you don’t spend it, you are not going to create demand, and if you don’t create demand, might as well stop mining it.

Using bitcoin as a currency does not necessarily mean it has to used to buy drugs. Drugs in this case being the illegal and hard ones that the problem they cause to the society does not justify whatever means used to get it in the first place. While those who hold are not doing any good based on submission, it does not mean they are opening doors for it to be used illegally by others. There are other means that bitcoin can be used as a currency which is currently being done by the developers of various peer to peer platforms and nothing illegal is being done here. I personally don't think there is any justification for the use of bitcoin for things that would cause more harm than good in the long run.

There is trouble abrewing
i get the point about bitcoin being a currency but what i don't get is why use an illegal activity such as "buying drugs" as an example? it is not like we lack use cases that you have to go look in the dark market to find a use case! there are hundreds of different use cases and millions of merchants. use one of them like saying "those who pay for their meal with bitcoin", "get part of their salary in bitcoin", "top up their phone using bitcoin lightning network",....

Moderating what is and isn't "right" is a major problem and costs billions in tax dollars. People are still behind bars for selling weed but you can buy cigarettes and alcohol which have much more detrimental affects on health. You can also legally buy prescription drugs which also get you addicted and destroy your body.

Everyone should have the ability to buy whatever they want (because they'll find a way whether or not it's legal) and bitcoin represents consumer freedom in many ways.

The problem is there aren't more applications to buy standard goods in cryptocurrency, which is why decentralized marketplaces such as Origami, Daconomy and Virie will allow for more concrete use and will hopefully change this.

Think better
It's true that if we invest in bitcoin without doing that, it's also not fun. We know that the price of bitcoin goes up and down, if we just stay quiet and wait for the price to get a lot of profit then you are not a bitcoin player.
But if in a downturn we use bitcoin for payments on the dark web in my opinion security in making transactions is more insecure.

A closed community is not doing that much for BTC as an open one, the claims are over exaggerated.

Not really a fan of hodling either but you have to wonder what would a trader on the dark web do when the price drops like it this week. Probably he will stop dealing and he will dump a few coins not to go in red with its balance.
So when the markets are down probably they also add to the dip rather than people hodling, thus creating more volatility.

What I would love to see would be a chain where your coins with which you've bought your merchandise are used by the shop to re-stock, not hit a 3rd party payment processor and then an exchange. I've tracked the last coins which I used to purchase some computer parts and after a few hops, all of them ended in an exchange cold wallet.

however if you do transactions that's illegal in your country that's the time it becomes illegal,

Really? Never thought something like that could happen.  Cheesy

all know that the bitcoin is not that anonymous because they can track our transactions right? but in the deepweb or darkweb there are some services who offers bitcoin mixer where in you don't need to use your real address in order to do transaction and in return you're going to be anonymous.

Actually not just users who buy drugs online are the user of bitcoin there are some legal services who are using more bitcoins rather than buyers of illegal drugs such as the founder of the Gambling sites and others.

PS. Remember that using or surfing in deepwebs or darkwebs is legal however if you do transactions that's illegal in your country that's the time it becomes illegal, so you have to be responsible in every actions you're going to make.

Not all publicity is good publicity. People would reckon that one of the reasons it is used for illegal activities could be cause it's difficult to trace.
I don't think we can go ahead of the times. Bitcoin is not as yet a staple, everyday means of making payments. And investors can not be faulted for wanting to profit from it's volatility. Nor can meet hants which accepts it be faulted for using processors which converts it directly to fiat.

I believe in the near future we would have an allignment with the goals of bitcoin and our personal goals

I also agree with the post, we need to encourage the use of bitcoin in business transactions and our daily activities of living. Certainly, bitcoin will certainly be widely accepted by all in the near future, the world will definitely see the benefits of using bitcoin as a currency for various business transactions.

I would agree with you on one thing that leaving bitcoin in the wallet doesn't do any good to it but you can't tell some one what to do with there bitcoin and I would also not support the use of bitcoin or any other currency to by illegal substances

Well, I believe that moment is a growth but still, I am against the illegal use of Bitcoin or any other currency. If we are specifically talking about Bitcoin then involvement of Bitcoin in illegal activities directly affects the goodwill of it and hence not doing anything is much better than doing something wrong with it. On the other hand, speculation is also not contributing to the vision of Satoshi to use it as a payment system.

It is used as a currency in the dark web, yes, but how can we be sure that the trail of money continues to widen once the transaction is done? For all we know, those drug dealers just end up converting directly to cash and/or hoard the money as well, so drug deals are also dead-end transactions (if that's a thing) since you can't expect a drug dealer to continue using bitcoin for his/her own expenses. Also, the coins go towards the black market, a realm that most governments and people don't really support, so until what point does a drug deal involving bitcoin be better?
