So anyway, I applied as a merit source :)
A board dedicated to the Hindi language.
We have regional languages, with so many of them, having a child board inside that board, seems redundant to me. However if others are in agreement then I would say go ahead with it.

..and actually most of the reports I reported in our board handled sooner than I expected.
Which I also noticed, thanks to the GMods.

I second the idea on a section dedicated to Gambling.

A board dedicated to the Hindi language.

 Council for Business and Finance/Economics.

Remove the altcoin board and add a single topic for altcoin discussions.

We need a mod for these sections too.

I don't think theymos will be interested in appointing a staff for a board that generate around 150 - 200 posts only per month, so for now the global mods are more than enough and actually most of the reports I reported in our board handled sooner than I expected.

I've seen the suggestions for the rules here, but I'd also like to suggest whether we can have a dedicated gambling sub-board just like we can see in the global Marketplace section? I mean, if it is possible, then why not?

I don't find it necessary to be honest because as said above we may not be going to see a lot of posts in a child board that discuss only gambling activities in India so just a thread in our main board as self moderated can serve that purpose if needed in my opinion.

~

India is one of the very few local boards with appropriate childoards but due to not enough activity the childboards are ghosted but in future if we gain lot of traction from new members then we can't demand them again so better let it be and finding the guidelines of how to use those boards seems to be the actual purpose.

I observed most sub board have no recorded post for a while now, and to the best of my knowledge, I suggest that there should be only two sub boards at the child board due to the following reasons:

Mining:  the discussion about mining in the  mining board should be brought to the main board or the regional language board. The mining board hasn't been active for a while now

Market place: I don't think this local board need a market place as it might become a catalyst and a good opportunity for scammers to operate since our profile are still anonymous, you can't hold anyone responsible for your mistake.

Press and news from India: I think the news from the press can be discussed in off topic or the regional language board

Altcoin : altcoin can be discussed in the main board and also the regional language board, I have seen cases where this happens in this forum.

Buying and selling: should be discarded for security reasons because it might tarnish the reputation of our board if any trade turns out to be scam.

The only child board I recommend to be left out are the off topic and regional language board as other board discussion can also be discussed in those two boards. The Nigeria board has I good number of active user and they are doing fine with only their main board.

The threads need to be bumped if they need to be seen here, but instead of that, why not a sub-board to handle everything related to gambling and gambling discussions for the Indian board?

For this board, my suggestion for the set of rules would be:
Strictly gambling related stuff. Games and rounds to be conducted here as well so that instead of searching for a thread, we will get them all at one place.

Please share your opinion on this.

And yeah, mining hasn't gone obsolete here, it's just that we don't have enough people available with us from this industry to determine more stuff about what and how they are mining. I know various people who do mining and other stuff but I don't think they'd like to come here and discuss about the same (their personal issues maybe).

Here are my comments about the child boards:

Mining - keep it as it is. Mining in India is almost non-existent but no need to retire the board right away. Things may change in future, fingers crossed.

Marketplace - Not really functional, more like a "service discussion" section. More Thoughts?

Regional Languages - Previously the dumping place for Translated threads to get bounty payments by translators. I mean no offense, section can be improved a lot if specific language users can start using their language.

Press and News - dead since almost a year now.

Altcoins - Not getting any idea what to do with it. (Get Idea?)

Buyer/Seller Rep - Maybe the global Reputation section is better than this?

Offtopic - spam, but need a section to keep the weirdos in place, right?

We need a mod for these sections too.

Hereby to resurrect this thread which is indeed due to the outdated rules and pinned threads.

Active community members can share their views on what are the things we should look into and make changes from the old to make the Indian bitcointalk community a better place and favors the new users to learn about cryptocurrency and Indian economy to understand the importance of decentralization and bitcoin.

I think this is the right time to make actions so if bull run happens next year then possibly we can expect the new Indians whoever join the bitcointalk community can also be a part of their Local board.

I sincerely think the first and foremost thing is that theymos should appoint an Indian board moderator. It has been without one for very long, I remember Joel has asked for one looking long ago. I think Heisenberg should ask again, start a thread in meta on the issue.

Cause only then can we hope to bring better order to this place.

Although, I am new here and don't know if my suggestions hold any value but I will still try to share my opinion on this.

- Scam Accusations and Reputations of a bitcoin based company is being posted in the main board but they do find a place in the Buyer/ Seller Reputations (India) board.

Agreed. If someone wishes to report a company or a person doing illicit activities involving Crypto then they should post in the above mentioned board with adequate proof.

- Similarly, Press & News from India board should consist of news paper clippings which highlights about cryptocurrency standards being followed in India which isn't currently happening. Many newbie accounts are posting stuffs which are being published in newspaper and doesn't relate to bitcoin in general.

This rule should definitely be put in place. Any thing related to Crypto happening in in India can and should be posted in this section but news that is not related to Crypto in any way should be left out. Or posted in off-topic section for general discussion.

- Regional Languages (India) sub board seems to be rotten. Shitposting newbies from various parts of our country are churning out shits in the form of posts. We never have any good discussions going over there in our Indian languages.

I have never visited the section before but I did just now and you're right, I think regional languages post which are not related to Cryptocurrency should be moved to off-topic.

India is a complex country where we speak a large number of languages and follow a varied number of traditions. So my idea is to have the main Indian board to be present in English and move our Indian language topics to Regional Languages (India) sub board. What are your thoughts on this suggestion?

Totally agree but I just saw the alt-coin section and in it I saw multiple posts in Hindi and/or phonetic Hindi. Should that be allowed? Or should that be moved to regional language section? I think we can set up a rule to post in English in main board and if the person posting is not comfortable with that then allow them to post in their regional language and ask them to post their translation in English below their original post and the title, which can be done using Google/Yandex/Bing translate easily. Either that or add more child boards under regional language section. We can also allow Hindi in main board as it is our national language. But proper Hindi not phonetic. And it can also be translated to English to make things easier as not everyone has Hindi keyboard to reply in Hindi.

- Marketplace (India) : Since, the board is dedicated to India I hope dealing with currencies other than INR shouldn't be allowed. I have seen newbies posting stuffs like selling bitcoin for EUR, USD and other global currencies. What is the purpose of selling Bitcoin other than INR in an Indian board  Huh

Yes, I see no point in allowing people to post trade on Indian sub forum other than INR pair. If they wish to buy USD/EURO for BTC or vice versa, they can post that in main board's currency exchange section.

Nice thought.

Alt Coins (India) and Regional Languages (India) are two boards which require instant attention.

Currently, Alt Coins (India) has become a regional copy of Annoncements (Altcoin) section. The board doesn't contain anything else than announcement threads of Altcoins/Tokens. It shall have one sub-board. The main Altcoins (India) board shall be used for general altcoin and Indian projects (like Exchanges, crypto projects) related discussion and the sub-board for announcement threads in regional language with a clear cut pinned thread instructing members to not post ANNs in main board.

On the other hand, Regional Languages (India) section has completely become directionless. I don't see much utility in that section. Some members publish translation of popular Bitcointalk threads in that section which is the only good thing I see there. Except that, most of the threads are purposeless.

And Altcoin board is filled with multiple threads like ANN, Bounties,Exchanges and much more so its better to have child boards as well. Roll Eyes

Exactly the Altcoin is full of utter SPAM and uneeded shitcoin related promotional information. It should either be relegated to an Altcoins (Announcements) sub-board or deleted all together as the amount of discussions in the India section is not much anyway.

Definitely, we should update the guidelines for posting in Indian board but without the dedicated moderator I doubt that guidelines or unofficial rules will be much effective.

So, for quite some time I have been confused about the rules which are being followed up in the Indian board. There was Benson back in 2013-2017 who made up the now available unofficial rules, but they have been outdated and many of the new members aren't still following up them quite actively and are making up their own rules for the board. Since the forum on the whole relies on the idea of decentralization and free speech, devising certain specific rules is not really advisable but on the other hand leaving up random spam topics in various parts of the local board would clutter the whole Indian board quite sooner.

There are no official rules and there shouldn't be any official rules forever and this is how a decentralized forum should work based on the inputs gained from various community members. S_D the author of original Unofficial rules of Indian forum is highly inactive and any new suggestions or improvements in forum (like Merit, DT decentralization etc) were never addressed in the topic and has been outdated since then.

S_D's contribution through the topic was certainly great but shouldn't we move forward by having more inputs from community members?

What are the community thoughts on framing certain set of new unofficial rules which can make our local board more organised for new members?
