It seems to me that the whole concept of metaverse is a new spin on the already well-known virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technology. Although the term is not new (it first appeared in the cyberpunk novel Snow Crash in 1992), I think tech companies are now using it for a new hype. For most people the reality of a metaverse is still far in the future, but it is just a matter of time before technology has advanced enough for something like that to become a mass-market reality.

One thing about the Metaverse: I think it will work for some things... not for others. Example: I checked out the Ariana Grande thing on Fortnite... WTF was that ?!?! The whole thing just felt like a video game or some kind of a barbie adventure quest. Is that what people want ?!? Personally, I'm a guy and also happen to be a musician so I want to see Ariana ( the real Ariana, not some 3d Barbie doll ) sing, look sexy in her cute costumes, flirt with the public, interact with the other musicians, dance , talk to the public in japanese , etc. The nice graphics and all that ? Maybe for a music video ( even then, I prefer the real Arianna as we can't make CGI sexy yet ). True that we can't put 2 million people in a concert hall , but we certainly can stream the video concert on PPV ! ( or sell the DVDs ). So I'm not sold in the whole Metaverse thing for concerts, I don't think it works for boybands or boy singers either... most teenage girls want to feel close to their idols, occasionally jump onstage to hug them, and sometimes even get a free backstage pass to hang with them.
New bands are always find to hear.

Meta verse is a new concept and it is not yet implemented in its full capacity. You can watch and join the virtual concerts while staying at home. It is hard to imagine how it will be felt but we are moving towards the 3D world. The world will completely change once we enter into the met verse era.

Do we have to get carried away or do we have to control the progress? Responding to the Metaverse is indeed quite potential as one of the owners of the future place. With the 3D concept that is still an illustration and not yet fully implemented by everyone, this certainly makes this the most awaited moment. However, another positive value is that there is cryptocurrency that can be generated in it. Not a few lands are priced up to millions and even billions.

And one other thing... Artists want to meet their fans too.. feel their energy, the roar of the crowd, girls chanting their names and holding signs up, and sometimes getting up close and personal with some of them ( ask Van Halen or Kiss Wink ) How will they get that in a Metaverse concert ?

Well, as a male fan of many female artists I've got to get back to my original point ... fans go to concerts basically to be near their idols, to feel like they can almost touch them, meet them backstage sometimes, see what they look like in person, etc. How could you do any of this with a 3d figure  ? I mean, yeh, fortnite did a good job with the graphics, and 3D Ariana looked good ( for a 3D Character ) but it wasn't Ariana ! So in the end I kinda felt cheated out of the real concert experience because I ended up with a video game with pretty 3D graphics that played Arianna in the background. Also, lets not overlook the performance aspect of it. It takes a lot of talent to put together a good performance, not just Ariana, but also, the back up singers, keyboard and strings musicians, etc.  I WANT TO SEE ALL THAT. I don't need the pretty rainbows decorated with flowers!

though this topic wants to center around 'concerts' .. meta doesnt see concerts as their main 'game'. just like people dont play fortnight for 'concerts'.

meta is more for social and retail. so yea dont think of meta as the place that will replace real world concerts where ticket prices are like $100+.. instead think of it like a youtube:red(youtube premium) where audiences pay a couple dollars for a premium livestream to watch whilst they explore the internet buying stuff. and see some product placement/billboards advertising stuff whilst they explore the VR marketplace inbetween playing premium games

It sounds seriously gimmicky and very cringe worthy, I think the only thing enabling this sort of content these days is the fact so many people have medium/high end PC's to cope with graphics and the infrastructure to host it has improved. These virtual worlds have been created in many iterations over the years and it seems very similar to the virtual world called "second life" that probably got furthest along this track years ago. However it is nothing like the physical real world experience, it is all so fake and over hyped, maybe partly because Covid has taken away so many abilities to socialize we're seeing this come to the forefront - but these virtual experiences always end as a flop.
That's the point this is metaverse technology a way to make the audience feel close to their idols and this is a unique strategy developed by fornite. like you said covid changed everything the way to idolize the artist can also go through virtually all technologies have been developed to be shaped to the original and enjoy the audio produced by music. this can be a good step for artists to express their work into the virtual world and have value

Metaverse is a scam. But being a scam don't mean you can't profit from it. Zuck has deep pockets to keep this thing alive and he will do that as long as he can. Somehow, he believes he is onto something. Let's pretend like he is. Let him lure the tards in. Pump the metaverse coins. Just don't forget to get out before we run out of suckers. It is that easy.
Grin Grin

Thats a savage take mindrust.

I am sure a lot of people are going to employ this strategy but you are mixing up the two. Zuck's metaverse has got nothing to do with the metaverse coins. Atleast there haven't been any announcements yet. There have been real deals between some NFTs and big corporates like Nike and Adidas but not with Facebook.

So Zuck really just wants everybody to get hooked onto AR/VR kits and haptic gloves and jerk themselves off to virtual porn. Its a very dystopian vision. The one with people in avatars attending meetings is also very superfluous. Yet, he definitely has the money and the marketing to make it possible. The crypto based metaverse coins actually came up with the idea first but Zuck loves stealing ideas. Isn't there this urban legend about Winklevoss twins and facebook? The bugger stole their idea and now he wants to co-opt the one crypto-related thing that seems to be getting hit with common people.

Its mostly just about ownership of virtual goods rather than the actual experience. Maybe we are too early to write this off, but really who cares about wearing a haptic suit and getting to hug and greet virtual people and shop around virtual items in 3D?

Let me make it easy for everyone. The Metaverse is there for people to make money.

All these social media platforms and media platforms and other interactive sites are competing for the same people.

also not forget that facebook will be selling virtual real estate within meta. such as billboards within the VR land. and "zones" (virtual land)

WTF was that ?!?!

Let me make it easy for everyone. The Metaverse is there for people to make money.
All these social media platforms and media platforms and other interactive sites are competing for the same people. The 1st ones to get something new have the advantage till the 'next big thing' comes along.
Make no mistake, it's all about getting users and getting their money, or getting the users so the advertisers give you the money.

Don't pretend it's anything but that and it all makes more sense.

think of it more like the bitcoin game dragon tales. but with more retail and less casino/betting. and more smooth rounded edge graphics
http://www.dragons.tl

a place where crypto is used to buy/gamble things, but the difference(what DT does not do) being eventually you can see product images in 3D and order them within 'meta' and have them physically delivered to real world home address.
as well as being the 'waiting area' for users to gateway into other company games

mixed in with some voice chat for social interactions.

..
as for the ariana granda thing. i agree. if they are able to live record ariana, render her in 3D and then .. pixelate her into crappy cartoon form.. maybe meta will skip the cartoonisation and just live stream a realistic 3d render in the future

The concept of the metaverse is new and in development and acceptance/getting used to it may be something difficult. I completely agree with OP that some usage of the metaverse will be easier to accept example for office meetings, while some other of its usage like the musical concert may not be easy to adapt to by everyone gender. I however believe that since the idea is new and in development, it will definitely get better than what you witnessed in the Ariana Grande thing, more gender/age friendlier environment will emerge.

I think the idea is there entirely, it's just that the execution needs work but it's definitely progress IMO. It might not be the best thing yet but maybe will get there. I think the whole idea of the metaverse is good with all that's happening but it's going to be a challenge to make everyone like it because it's different when it comes to the real thing. It can improve for sure but it's a start.

I didn't know that it's already being offered like that though.
