The original was this one I think:

http://www.milliondollarhomepage.com

It's really a silly concept which needs to go viral to be beneficial to any of the advertisers.  Then, any surge in unique traffic would quickly die off as their is no content to attract a dedicated audience.  Add to that the fact the vast majority of traffic would likely be other advertisers - meaning there's little chance to reach the intended consumer.

This was a good idea for a college kid trying to make a buck back in '05, but the ad industry is far too advanced at this point.  If I were you, I'd not waste much time on this project.

yeah this concept confuses me, unless there is something that draws people/potential customers to the site

Why would users visit a site just to look at ads?

Where is the traffic going to come from? I would probably buy if it was much, much cheaper...

I'm pretty sure someone else has this too, not much people advertising on their sites though.

Want to reach a unique audience of bitcoin users through an untapped marketing well?  Check out the thousand BTC homepage for affordable, long term pixel advertisement solutions.  Own a piece of bitcoin history, the bitcoin billboard, then manage your own ad overtime or sell it when free space is unavailable in the future.

Current price is 0.0002 BTC/pixel, so about $3-4 per 100 pixel square - a fraction of the cost of others, though it's a grand opening sale so get your space before it's over.

Have seen this too, I remember it selling for 1$ per pixel and there is 1 million pixel all together. So the guy earned $1 million USD...
