I'd prefer 2 5830's myself. That and I found it less of a headache to deal with two cards when trying to overclock than I did with having 3 in one system, at least in windows. I'm sure under linux it's not an issue.

Looking at it the 5770's ares 660MHash/sec vs 5830's 600Mhash/sec.

But 3 5770's cost $94.99 each ($284.97 total) vs $129.99 each ($259.98 total.)

Also, as stated, 3 PCIe x16 slots are needed or you could use extension cables... for an additional cost.

Do you want to use these cards for mining only?
Because for mining purpose there is no need to connect the cards with the crossfire connectors.

For my mining rigs I always went for the high-end cards. Because the base of your rig (mainboard, PSU, RAM, HDD, case) costs money too.
So every 16x PCIe-slot is worth a good amount of money. With high-end cards you can save a slot for future use or get more MHash for less base cost.

I was thinking of buying two of these
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102946

or Three of these
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131368

I want to know what would be better for mining, If some one can find 5830's for under $140 that have two crossfire connectors that would be great.
