Is it even still profitable to mine with BEs?

If you buy them for cheap enough.
Which is impossible. They basically need to be free.
Which also is impossible, if they where 20$ in the beginning with a fixed price they would have sold way and way more BE and we could actually make ROI with them.

it looks like about 58 erupters, roughly 19 Ghash. at about .003 per Gh/s per day he is making roughly .057 BTC a day at the current difficulty.

Man, so disappointing how mining went from gpus everyone could get, to being another luxury afforded primarily to the one percenters. I wanted to buy 5-8 earlier in the week but really you see the sellers sitting on 100+ and you'd think if they actually were profitable they would be used themselves.

is your time really worth the 10 dollars possibly mined from these at this point?  The cost of getting more hubs...the time to resolve power issues.  I just put together this setup basically and it took hella time to get the usbs figured out and working right.  I think there is a hardware limit of 127 different usb components onto one os too which leads me to think there are other limits on mining with these style devices.

it is my understanding that it is 127 per controller. one computer can have multiple controllers. But you can only daisy chain 5 deep.
I am only at 70 miners and start up is tuff to get them all going. I had started out daisy chaining and didn't like that at all, so I have two main 10 port hubs plugged into the computer with 5 hubs plugged into each for now. I have enough power from my 3 PSU's to still power 20 more miners before I need to add another PSU. I was kind of wondering what my limit is on one computer.  Here is a picture of 70 miners running with 3 PSU

That is awesome, do you mind divulging what you earn in btc a week/month at the current difficulty.

Yes that picture was with 56 miners and I just added 14 more since this picture was taken so I am at 70 now running at 23.6 GHs. I mine on Slush's pool and depending on the pool luck but I think I may be closer to .10-.07 per day now. I also put up a blog with information on the hardware that I used http://aurel57.blog.com/

I'm tempted to crack an egg over one just to see if it'll cook even slightly. I'll first check if egg white is conductive though!

Just let em mine and when they die they will probably not fetch more than 0.00001 a month.

I grabbed an old RVK extractor from a part dismantled bathroom. The miners are mounted in a plastic box, with a hole cut into the lid to feed the air in and the PSUs outside the whole thing. Near constant uptime.  Kiss

Ensure there is enough space for metal heating. The metal plate heat transfer is close to air due to aluminum nature so. If you keep enough space (Horizontal connection Typical Motherboard connection, safe), the aluminum plate will do the rest for you.  I have been operating six USB Eruptor for at least 5 days, no fan, just nature array, there is no errors during the mining.

USB Eruptor, One cannot do the job, Two can do little, At least five, meaningful. Although the 2.5W For 330Mh/s may be bad idea, more trustful as the big number being as 28nm is still an advance topic.

Forget cooling, I trained my Blockraptor to use the heat for frying eggs and cats:

That's a lot of work for 330Mh.  Points for originality though!

I'm not sure they ever were.  But they have blinky lights, so it's OK. Smiley

I don't really see the point of cooling them...

Mind you, I have them in a fairly cold room to begin with (< 60F)

Fans dont really work i tried usb case fans, flexible fans, and desk fans they still get hot.

So?  Mine are just sat beside the Corsair CX750 PSU that runs my Blades.  The slight breeze of it's 140mm fan is enough.

using both stick-on small heatsinks on the component side to cool the Asic and a couple of USB fans helps keep my USB BE's much cooler to the touch than running them uncooled.

I have been running this without using fans, leaving little space for heat out since 24 September 2013, at this moment,  There is no question about all as the aluminum plate protects the circuit not to be over heat

One more thing, 900 J KG/K and 1000 KG/K, the fan is meaningless, just need an open space to finish it, I think the 10 in a row, leaving little space, should not be problem as 3W is so small.

in my experience a little bit of airflow does a lot. these things are stable even when hot though so dont be too worried. alternatively, attach some small heatsinks to either the stock plate, or atop the asic chip

hi guys i have a rig of 20 block erupters on 2 10 port hubs but i need something to cool them to the max. Fans dont really work i tried usb case fans, flexible fans, and desk fans they still get hot. The only thing that worked for me is putting the block erupters on a vent with ac on but its winter now. Whats a good way to cool them to the max. As i want them to be as efficient as possible and have a long life
