I think there should be some sort of activity requirement to release a coin.  I'm tired of all of these pointless crap coins and I think placing a restriction on who can release them will have a positive effect on the Crypto scene as a whole.  I realize that some people did well with DOGE and that's great, but I don't think we need Catcoin, Kittehcoin, Hamstercoin, etc.  Not to mention someone released XMAS today  Roll Eyes

These are nothing more than shitty coins with absolutely no purpose.

C'mon... Ya gotta admit that Vaporware Coin is absolutely the most innovative concept in coin design in a long time, and if more coins emulated Vaporware Coin, we'd not see so many shitcoins around. Wink

no activity needed... what if a talented developer active on a different forum wants to promote his new coin here?

I don'T care how crappy the coins are, there's plenty of place for all and the shitty coins will die by themselves.

Plenty of people dislike the animal themed coined for their silliness but if you don't have a bunch of "newbies's first coin" no one new will ever take the risk of investing big money in bitcoin just to learn.

What does activity on bitcointalk have anything to do with releasing a coin?  I could make a coin today, Lorrencoin, and have me and my friends mine it.  I could spread the word on Facebook, and not even mention it here, yet it still would be a coin.  Would it be a popular coin?  Probably not.  It would still be a coin though.

Is it a little annoying to see tons of coins every day, not knowing what to bother with?  Sure.  I think that we should have the freedom to choose whether or not we want to mine them or not though.  Some will take off, many will not.

This sudden increase in new coins is not New. It has happened before. It happens when coin prices spike up.

Why? Coin devs trying to cash in.

How does it play out? Let's look at history.

A lot of coins get issued, some end up on exchanges. If they don't get on an exchange they die. Typically if they end up on an exchange other than cryptsy they can hold on like on life support until they get on cryptsy. At the present time, Cryptsy is the king maker for coins.

So what is the strategy?  Mine those that will get on an exchange. When they hit the exchange dump the coins and make money.

Which coins get on an exchange?  Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe some have unique properties? Maybe some have a lot of hype?

Therefore, the number of coins issued doesn't matter except it makes it harder to determine which will end up on an exchange.

This is a terrible idea.

Free market rules.

I'm actually more inclined to go with this.  Yes, there's a pile of crap but occasionally crap is fertilizer for new innovation.

The rate of release is too fast, several coins a day is just not sustainable. I don't think limiting by forum activity is the answer.

The rate of release of new coins will lead to confusion. New people will not invest, new traders as well. This will even effect Bitcoin.
