I may be a newbie but I like the merit system. Having the system in place gives an incentive to those people who would like to contribute to the discussion in a meaningful way. I join the forum to get a sense of what people in the bitcoin community think of any particular issue in the community and having to sort through spam is actually very discouraging to a newbie. I don't want to waste my time going through one junk posts after another. If people posts in the spirit of the merit system, it'll be faster for newbies to learn the things that they would like to learn and it elevates the entire community as a whole.

Exactly. that is why merrit system was implemented in order to minimize spam and other worthless post just for the sake of ranking up and post bursting. i also love the merrit system because it does actually worked the way it was intended to be. however the only downside of it is that legit members and quality posters dont still get merrits despite of thier good quality post. that is why ranking for them is seemlesly imposible right now.

I also wonder, why there are some users here who hate this merit system. Do they not want this forum to be better?

We must obey the rules and policies made by the forum admin. You are right that if they do not like this system, maybe they can move to another forum that is much better than this beloved forum.

The one's who hates the merit are the one's that didn't get have the chance to get their desire rank and they hate merit as if it stole their candy. And nobody forces them to stay here so to those who doesn't want the rules the door is widely open.
And instead of mocking around here better way to just improve ourselves and actually I don't see myself switching to other forums.

I do not understand why people are arguing over the way merits are distributed. If you cannot level up, then it is okay. You can still post. I believe, at the rate I have earned merit points, I will never level up quicker than 1 or 2 years, but if I can still post, I should not complain. I am very grateful to have opportunities in signature campaigns, and I might be sad to one day not qualify if only Heros and Legendaries can, but I should not complain then.

Remember, some things in life are a right and some things are a privilege. The quicker you realize these differences, the happier you will become.

I was looking for something different and somehow discovered this thread.
Who hates merit? People who wants to be in sig campaign but are new and can't rank up. Not Others!!!!! This is real!!!!
I just remembered how far that forum.bitcoin.com is for us, owner was thinking about adding sig campaigns for a while to make that a little bit popular.
This forum is unique forun not only in bitcoin but in whole internet with it's history, this is the forum where once satoshi was discussing and a lot of people for example from bitmain, cex.io, bitfury, coinmarketcup and etc are here. It's almost impossible to make crypto business popular without this forum because this is a place where you can find all important people.
People who would hate merit system is for those who do rush up on ranking up for them to get paid on their signature campaigns. Merit system doesn't really restrict new people to level up but I would say that it is way more harder than we do expect since you would really need to be a good quality poster before you will able to level up so the hard thing here you should be concerned is on how to be a good poster. If you cant able to get out on your current rank then the problem is within you,not into the forum. I believe that this forum cant be easily beat up by other bitcoin forum.

I also wonder, why there are some users here who hate this merit system.
We can't deny the fact that these merit system is kinda a bad thing for some users, specially for the newbies and Jr. members on this forum. It's because it force them to post a high quality post in order to recieve merits, this high quality post that they need to do is kinda hassle and hard for them to maintain.
But for me I like these new set rules Shitposters, spammers, trollers, and low quality posts are been decreases.

Actually most users on these forum are only here just to earn profits and they don't usually care whether this forum will improve or not.

Having a rules and regulations to obey on this forums makes this industry/ forum more Reliable in terms of information and more organize.

Bitcointalk forum is the major forum where we can get knowledge about the Bitcoin and new information around the world happening. Most people are here to learn knowledge but most people deviated and start thinking Bitcointalk forum is for earning. This forum always gives knowledge to the people who don't have the ability and knowledge about the Bitcoin and Blockchain.

Most don't care about the forum. They are here for only one thing and that is to get paid in the easiest and laziest way possible with one/two liner shitposts and that's why they're annoyed cos they can't really do that anymore. Most of the people complaining would like the forum to get worse so they can continue on in getting paid for even worse posts as that becomes the norm.

I also hate the merit system too but I really don't think people will do that especially that Roger does not have a good image on bitcoin enthusiast because we know that he is behind the bitcoincash which is just a pure imitation of the KING.

I am only trying to tell everyone that there is another popular Bitcoin forum out there that is less strict. I am not a Bitcoin Cash supporter. You can verify it by checking my post history. But I am encouraging everyone who has no chance in ranking up to sr. member and above to give https://forum.bitcoin.com/ a try.

It is a fairly good forum with many active members in my opinion.

That's human nature to get afraid of something new, that is normal reaction on changes of many individuals. I believe that this panic around merit has place to be only when a person do not understand the change correctly. I believe with the time everyone will learn to live with that and if not, as you noticed, there are other forums.

If you want to go to a forum that is free of censorship and free of strict rules that limit your ability to rank up

Censorship as an argument... maybe... But I don't really see this forum censoring

The merit system or ranking up as an argument? Laughable.
The only benefit a higher rank seems to get you is usually signature campaigns here.
The posting interval restriction becomes meaningless by the time you're a Jr. Member or Member.... So... why would you leave because of the ranking system?

If you want to go to a forum that is free of censorship and free of strict rules that limit your ability to rank up, then sign up in Roger Ver's forum, https://forum.bitcoin.com/.

I believe it can be as big as Bitcointalk in one year. Plus you also have an opportunity to interact with Roger Ver, the first investor in Bitcoin, also known as the Bitcoin Jesus.

your post needs more love..

As Ver is Cancer and shitposters here are cancer.. maybe they would make some super cancer forum!

Roger Ver's forum has no censorship? Hmm, how about you try and have a conversation with him about his silly coin that you then name Bcash? I am fairly sure that he will demonstrate you what censorship really means. Cheesy People are free to leave if they so wish, but they don't so because they know that Ver's forum isn't any better, where on top of that it's the main focus of the altcoin that he is operating with his fellow keyboard warriors. That forum is an empty hole at most.

people complain about merits because it slows them down and makes it harder to rank up
they want to rank up because higher rank enables them to join a signature campaign with higher payment
and I think popular is not the correct term, but "another potential forum" should be more appropriate

They have signatures and even allow signature campaigns as far as I'm aware, but I don't think they've been very successful with them because they don't have the traffic or userbase for them to be very effective: https://forum.bitcoin.com/the-forum/signature-campaigns-t491.html
as you said, even if they have... those sig camps probably not as succesful as those in bitcointalk.org
thus it limits the budget of sig campaign to pay better/equal payment to those in this forum
and discourages users to join the forum because their intention is not for the discussion but for the money in the sig campaign

How about no! I don't see any strong reasons to leave Bitcointalk. I don't know where did you find censore here? As hilariousetc said, moving threads about Bitcoin Cash from Bitcoin Discussion board to Altcoin discussion isn't a censore, it's just proper moderation.
Merit system is also not a sign of censore. You still can express your opinion freely. Mainly spammers complaining about it, well, I'm not against if they will leave Bitcointalk.Cheesy
If you are Bitcoin Cash supporter, then maybe Forum.Bitcoin.com is a better place for you. I have account on that forum, but I rarely visit it. Shortly, I don't like Roger Ver due to attacks against Bitcoin and also that calss Bitcoin Cash as a real Bitcoin.

People seem to talk about Bitcointalk's censorship all the time (mostly when I stumble upon r/btc lol), but I personally don't see it. I see plenty of posts that are anti-Bitcoin and it doesn't seem like any mods or admins take action against them. I only ever see spam getting trash canned. Granted, the posters usually get flamed, but that's the internet for you.

You forgot to mention that he's against Bitcoin now and is actively telling people that Bitcoin Cash is the true Bitcoin. I'm guessing his forum is mostly the same. I honestly though you were being sarcastic, but I guess you're entitled to your own opinion.

What you are saying is ridiculous. The merit system is not censoring anyone and neither is the implementation of ranks in these forums. Newbies aside, all of the ranks are able to post in most sections of the forums and are only limited by the frequency at which they can post, which should honestly not be a problem as even the lowest ranks have quite reasonable limits which cannot be considered "censorship". I do not have a strong opinion on Roger Ver or his forum, so I cannot speak as to anything regarding them, but I have been around for long enough to know that the system used in here is good for the forums as it only scares away spammers and am willing to defend this change.

I think he's talking about posts being 'censored'. Some people think moving talk about bitcoin cash to the alt coin section is censorship, but it really isn't and there is very little actual censorship going on here (and even calling it that even seems extreme in my opinion).

Well I had a quick look at that forum, and this is an extract from the first thread -

Approved Alternative Diet Pills xxxxxxxx is different from most dietary products because it’s more of a weight loss program/diet plan instructing customers to take 3 separate products. It claims to boost metabolism and subsequently burn fat using clinically tested ingredients.

I think I prefer a forum with some censorship. Smiley

Also, I noticed they have solved the problem of ranking based on merit points by not having any ranks. They have also solved the problem of sig spamming by not allowing signatures.

In my opinion the serious discussion boards here provide a better alternative, and now that some of the more intelligent and knowledgeable Bitcoin Talk members are starting to be active there, they have the potential to become the most useful boards for active Bitcoin users.

They have signatures and even allow signature campaigns as far as I'm aware, but I don't think they've been very successful with them because they don't have the traffic or userbase for them to be very effective: https://forum.bitcoin.com/the-forum/signature-campaigns-t491.html

Well we'll have to disagree on Roger Ver but he doesn't come across as someone likeable to me and seemingly only has his own self-interests at heart. But what strict rules are here? This forum is still pretty much as liberal as they come. In fact, it's too liberal and doesn't have enough rules hence why it has become such a shitshow with spammers and crapcoin icos doing whatever they want and that's why things like merit needs to be introduced. What is it about that forum that is better than this one exactly? I can guarantee you that place would quickly become as bad and if not worse than this one if userbases swapped and they did nothing about shitposters and trolls etc but that forum won't have that issue anytime soon and it's likely only a "better"/calmer place to be right now to you due to the lack of users there but that would soon change if they didn't enforce rules or try to "censor" shitposters etc.

But the forum is the people. https://forum.bitcoin.com/ will grow and be as big and good as this Bitcointalk in my opinion.

With the new merit system in place here and the strict rules, I believe some of them need to find a better and a "free-er" place to be in.

Plus I do not believe that Roger Ver is a "cunt". We may disagree with his interpretation of what Bitcoin is but he is no cunt. His passionate way of expressing himself sometimes makes him act like one.

Roger Ver is a cunt though. I'm all for people leaving this forum for that one if they don't like the way this one is run but nobody will leave this board until they can start earning more there. I doubt that forum is free from 'censorship' either... unless by censorship you mean you can talk about bitcoin cash in the main board cos apparently just moving threads here is 'censorship'. I would love to see how they react to having thousands of shitposters swarm their board though. At the moment there's probably not much for them to 'censor' but that would soon change if they receive all the shitposting refugees from us.
