It is not a crime for sure but as a profit seeker, I think I must invest in privacy coins considering there will be such threat from governments.

I'm not really worried about this, because I know that Russia is very supportive of crypto and we also know that the average ico is from russia.

I am not too sure of your news that a few days ago Russia had a lot of positive news and even rusia would legalize bitcoin, Russia also owns the biggest mine in rusia by Russian businessman Dmitry Marinichev, he also believes that the phenomenon of virtual currency (cryptocurrency) become a profitable business opportunity when used properly. For me it is progress in rusia, it is with all the news that I do not know clearly whether it is true or not.

It's not considering only Russia.
The definition of crime means something that authorities don't accept/like/want/control Grin
So as they can't control crypto they'll surely make it outlaw.
And there are some news that Russia want to create its own cryptocurrency.

Russia's finance ministry has drafted a law that criminalizes the use of encrypted money instead of money. Russia's Banks and finance ministries have previously opposed the use of encryption in this way, arguing that only the rouble in Russia could be used to pay for goods and services.

Russian commercial radio added that the ministry of finance was responsible for arranging, issuing and accepting money substitutes, even crimes, related to the use of cryptocurrency payments.

Moiseev further clarified that the text of the bill on currency alternatives was not exclusively used to encrypt money, and the constitution provided that only the Russian rouble could be used to pay for goods and services.

Although "currency substitutes are not allowed to", but according to interfax news agency reported that law is not punishment for violations of the specific: "the consequences of violation of this principle for many years has not been reflected. The Treasury has decided to fill the gap. "
They do that to protect the value of rouble for the sake of their rouble-based economy ( as fiats have no real meaning of value in the material they present, only in numbers). The whole cryptocurrency economy based on BTC as well,so if btc goes down, everything'd go down.
As we're heading into a headless era where no one needs to manage currency, they're loosing power so they need to protect what created their power on the economy.

Just recently I read a news that Russia was going to legalize crytocurrencies by July. And that Putin had ordered his government to get ready for its adoption. And now there is this news calling it a crime. I would say don't read on any news until it has been confirmed or actually done.

I am really confused here, so many conflicting report coming out of Russia. This one is not good because most of these privacy coins are encrypted. But I don't know how this will work out because IMO Russia is a safe Haven for hackers especially if one look at the increase in rate of attacks coming from that part of the world

The introduction of criminal liability in Russia for the use of crypto currency as a means of payment. is one of the many bills in respect of crypto-currencies, which have recently been prepared. This is one of the toughest bills. Given that regarding the use of crypto currency in Russia there are different opinions of politicians, as a result, it is not known which bill will be adopted by the State Duma. However, I will not be very surprised if this law is adopted. In Russia. when even websites that discuss crypto currency are banned, it is quite possible.

I don't think so that the use of encrypted currency is crime specially when it is use in our daily expenses, unless  used by serious and organized crime groups, crowdfunding platforms for money laundering, possible terrorist financing. So in short not everything about currency is dark.

Let them talk, and we will continue to bend our line. For the present nothing is forbidden and there are no penalties and no taxes. Let them think better how to do better for people and not to cover their ass.
