They are not "overrated" they are mandatory, there are difference between those words. Something overrated would be loved beyond it should be, nobody loves going to school, nobody loves having a job, nobody loves the responsibility building a family brings (even tho most love their families), none of these things are overrated in a way that one would overrated a movie, it is not like that.

It is however mandatory because if you don't go to school, if you don't find a job, if you don't have a family, life becomes a very empty shell that you can't even survive and soon will be a lone homeless person on the street without any means to live the life that could be out there you otherwise could have if you did all those mandatory things. That is the difference.

WB once tell everybody to change their life they need to invest into stock market.
Every great advisors told us to quit our jobs and invest into stock market
But recently they tell us do not quit our jobs yet, but keep investing in stock market to change your life.
Wouldn’t you smell fraud in what they’re selling? Aren’t they’re overrated?
The same can be said on change your life by using bank, getting married to change life, get job to change life.
Pay taxes can change life too, they told me so.

The fun part isn’t there, you would treat it as a life challenge or a judgement day anytime
I assume you're talking about the new year holiday?  I didn't read that entire post as it was extremely long.  Sounds to me like the Chinese/Korean/Japanese new year "celebrations" are something to be enjoyed in the privacy of your own bedroom.  With the door locked.

So how does this relate to bitcoin or the economy, anyway?  Just curious.

Just so you know CNY is overrated, just the same with getting a job is overrated, working for USD is overrated, everyday you wake up and working for better tomorrow is overrated, by just following the social order you’re living a life of overrated shitty life and living in denial and a lie which is ultimately don’t benefit you but enrich the ultra elitist who living in the dark who manipulate the entire world order the new world order, who control the entire wealth of the world, who control what you can do and can’t do, who tell you what you should consume for breakfast lunch dinner, who decide whether you deserve the food for today menu, who brainwash you that we are living better than cow boy the medieval age in today society, who tell you the virtual signalling over the twitter is legal and shouldn’t be contradict further to avoid conflict of interest, do not inflict racism sexism ageism non binary don’t question the constitutional rights.

Everything is overrated! Go to school, get a job, invest, get married or use bank, this are some of the most overrated lies that’s channeling into everybody mindset. You’re all living zombie who work for the new world order, no purpose, no protest, no fighting, no stirring up the social order, cop is above the laws. And lastly you can’t change anything, American dream is just a lie just as good as the China dream, working for a lies for the entire life how do you feel mr crab. Damn why school didn’t want to teach kids how to scam people to make a living, at least they have a skill to survive today scams city.

Wow, the Chinese truly are money-oriented, no wonder we have the stereotype of the Chinese businessman in Southeast Asia.
Sounds to me like emphasis is placed on happiness and success in life (in a very traditional sense, anyway) more so than money.  I found OP's take on the holiday to be interesting, as I don't know a hell of a lot about Asian culture--though I do know family is extremely important, at least compared to the US for the most part.

Since this holiday is primarily celebrated in the Middle Kingdom, I believe that China has completely different problems associated with the epidemic, because of which cryptocurrency users will spend significantly more of their digital assets than on the eve of or after the celebration of the New Year.  To protect his health and his loved ones, a person is able to think much and less about saving his investment funds.

This time the celebration mood around China isn't that big as the previous years due to the recent corona virus that has affected the large number of people. The number of death due to the virus attack keeps counting, and more preventive measures were taken to stop the spreading. This will be the time when big amounts were spend, but this time this is some critical time for the Chinese People.
Look not celebrate Chinese new year with happy because their country faced with bad situation where Corona virus have make Chinese people look afraid and not allowed for flying to other country, I think is bad moment when celebrate with their Chinese new year but other side they faced with terrible virus in their country.
You are right it seems this year new Chinese celebrations is being hinder by the Corona virus, the spread of this deadly virus is accelerating thus travel restrictions has been placed especially in Wuhan invariably a lot of them would stay put in their respective homes and consequently this year dump in the price of bitcoin would be minimal compared to previous years.

If you really want to save your money, if it is not necessary, do not celebrate. It will probably make you spend your money to something that is not valuable. Your investment will become useless if you try to join them celebrate what they call Chinese New Year. You're on point that of you try so, you can get the virus with or without any signs. So you probably stay at home, mind your own business, focus on your goals and seek for some quality time that will make your life reduce stress. Most Chinese people celebrate their Chinese new year outside their country so it is unsafe to go out. Just observe the movement in the market and how can you make an alternative solution for that due to the effect of the virus.

Sorry man, those things you have mentioned here are not enough reasons to convince me, it’s like a normal thing anyone would tell you at a certain. And you lied about people telling you that you have to make use of banks.

People can’t just walk up to you as a grown-up man and start telling you that you need to start making use of banks, how did they even know that you don’t have a bank account and who even told them? If not you? And people will also not know that you are making use of cryptocurrency unless you tell them about it. As for the others, I do agree with that because they are normal things your parents can say to you when you’re jobless (seriously, why should you even be jobless?) unmarried, and not pay tax?  Huh

That’s a lot of mental gymnastics here but I’m willing to accept the challenge due to the reason that when the current court ruling can even justify the “3DCG is actual porn”, and “the GTA is the real criminal”, the “deep fake porn is the real porn”, “the video game violence is the real violence in real life”, “the gun shooting to kill someone in the video game is real killing in real life, and all real person are killed.” basically anything virtual can be justify to depict the actual thing being offended/vandalised/abused, although it would take a lot of mental wastefulness to argue to dead to find a common ground.

The court didn’t rule out the “virtual event depict the actual event” as a valid point for conviction.

How does it related? And you accuse me of telling a lies because nobody actually encourage you to use bank? That’s a great laugh, out of so many lies I could make but you decide to go on this one, a very weak argument.

Your accuse:
Nobody encourage you to use bank, because we are accustomed to the usual red envelope and also the physical cash being snapped into the small pocket, no bank is involved at all in the entire process? Great! Money is all that matter in the entire new year, I wouldn’t dare say it is number two and behind the usual feasting on well made cuisines. Yes! money, and head back to the proof that “virtual event depict the real event”, it without doubt virtual money is the real money, the virtual money on the bank is the real hard cash in your hand, does it still sound like nobody is encouraging you to use the bank? Does it really make sense to relate virtual money to the real hard cash? Does it really make sense to relate money on your hand is same as the money keep in the bank on your accounting book under the column “cash on bank”?  A lot of mental gymnastics, well that’s not impossible, because word is magic and can turn fake to real, can turn the illegal to legal, can turn the criminal to the justice, can turn the black to the white, can turn violence religion into peaceful religion. It’s all up to your due diligence.

That’s all for the lulz. Stay peace.

Festivals could be real, the fake part is the amount of people joining and celebrating because they are forced to and not because they want to.

===

This fake activities could be the culprit of giving birth of ura aka (private account) culture among the youth,

It seems to be a very depressing and sombre Chinese New Year this year, with the Corona Virus preventing people from gathering in large groups, in fear of getting infected with the virus.  Roll Eyes  It is also difficult to think of financial prosperity, when you know 1000s of people are getting infected and some already died.  Roll Eyes

In any way, enough of all the depressing thoughts.. let's just concentrate on the rise in the Bitcoin price and all the Chinese people buying Bitcoin to impress their relatives during this time.  Cool

A lot of people have made difficult decisions to buy in times of economic and political turmoil and they got rewarded for taking that risk and we know investing in Bitcoin carry a lot of risk too.  Tongue

===

The epidemic is vastly exaggerated by the mainstream, soon everybody would forget it ever occurred.

===

We all know that if we are talking about the new start of the year, there is also a Chinese new year that we are celebrating the year, and we all know that they are hard-working because they want to earn more money, but even they are celebrating those hard works and throw away the bad luck on their life and business still it depends on their skills to obtain more profit. Also though they are facing a lot of work and struggles in their jobs, still, they have some fun to celebrate their festive.

===

The fun part isn’t there, you would treat it as a life challenge or a judgement day anytime, and not to forget its fuelling some sort of sweatshop too, because the workload would be very high during the peak hour.

===

Well if my grades are plummeting I'd probably also just hire fake parents to talk with the teacher, LOL.

The fake GF/BF is sad coz of the actual reason. I've read somewhere that the young have a huge financial burden having to support two sets of parents and grandparents. Some other societies this would be split among siblings but considering most Chinese are single-child, I understand the feeling that they need to hold off marriage until later.

===

It’s getting rather easy to hire fake gf since the rise of ura aka recently.

yes, parents for rent is also a thing in China I read an article about it a few years ago but kids usually rent a parent for a school-related issue(which is funny and sad at the same time)
and the hire a BF and GF is usually to stop the parents from asking their child to get a boyfriend/girlfriend and start a family.

As in, Chinese government is running the country like a business and they are trying to make so much money that they will rule over the whole earth that, eventually they forget about making their people happy and gathering thousands upon thousands of people in places and paying them or even just forcing them to have fun is not really constitutes as a festival, surely there must be some people who had fun and celebrated because they wanted to as well but we all know how China literally tries to save face against rest of the world by constantly trying to show how "awesome" they are etc, which shows in this festival as well.

Or just the lunar new year. It's a festivity they celebrate that uses the stars and other heavenly bodies out there to welcome another year ahead of them. Anyway, many odd things happen during this time, one of which perhaps is the way how the Chinese try to sell goods to you for good luck and the foods they sell to you in order to have good heatlh.

I'm pretty sure by now it has lost it sense to the common Chinese folk, but to the businessmen, it hasn't. Then again with the events prior to the lunar new year of 2020, I don't think there's much happening around considering that the 2019 nCoV is still on the loose in China.

On the plus side, bitcoin has been making gains few days aftee the said event starts. It always has been the case every year but it's somewhat different right now. Less festivities are being held and more is being poured into some other things.

===

The whole point is to rack in as much profit as possible, I’m sure this is the one thing that didn’t changed. Is it true many business is gaining a big boost of sales during the events? I think most sales are dealt on the internet, shopping retailer may have a big disadvantage.

Looking like the lunar year or whatever you guys call it didn't make as much trouble for btc as we imagined it might have. It did dropped a bit for a while and reached to like 8200ish levels but now its back over 8600 and honestly that is good enough for me.

If the price goes down that is very scary, we don't know if it will continue to go down or what will happen, however whenever price recovers from a fall that means we are still in the bullish times and nothing major may have for a little more while, I am not saying bitcoin will never go down under 8k or something here, but at least for a little bit more while we are in the bull run and we may yet to see still higher prices like 10k or even more if these continue to happen, it all depends on if we will be able to break the resistance or not.

===

Good observation, I would expect the same too, bitcoin price would always react to FUD, and I don’t think a merely lunar new year has much impact.

===

snip
It's celebrated here in my country but I'm not ethnic Chinese. The closest I got to celebrating it is eating fried nian gao but even that we didn't do this year. I'm also the laggard in parties. I just listen to the advice I receive, most seem nice anyway. I just try not to feel bad, I'm lucky my family tend to be unpretentious.

===

Yeah, just look at the greeting card that’s written typically in moon rune that’s actually translated into many good advices, usually in four letters. But the fried short cake seem to be a lost relic recently, and wonder why it’s not often to be found on the market.

===

===

Yeah it’s tedious work for most busy working classes, nobody have spare time for this intimacy moment that amount to nothing but just a feel good. Hiring a new freelance acting on on the position every year seem to be very decent decision. Hiring parent seem to be excessive, but for the sake of social status it seem make sense, also hiring good looking kids too, nobody want to have a plastics looking kid.😂

===

Yeah, I heard about digital payments being the norm now in China. Just surprised kids are running away from the envelope. Where I live kids are supposed to pay respects of sort when it is handed to them. Maybe it's just a mainland thing?

===

Digital payment has been taking the world by storm in the last few years, I didn’t get very familiar with that prior to 2008, I think my first encounter with a truly reputable digital payment processor would be around 2013-2014, many earlier prototypes are usually scams, anyone remember liberty dollar? However there would be no turning back to physical money, everything you can bought over the internet ship from the China that only accept digital payment, new generation kids can never remember the cash ever existed.

===

it's fake because...... you don't agree on how they celebrate? having different views and culture doesn't mean one's festival is fake. just curious what your criteria of a genuine festival?

===

It’s also a need to take note that you should hire a model gf for the acting, you don’t want the sjw aunts to judge the look on the future off-spring.

===

Digital currency will manage by parent how to know their children using bitcoin for buying something, good and best ideas is use bitcoin and digital currency payment for his child and give good effect for many parents in China know where and when their children use bitcoin as transaction payment.

===

I’m not sure they are savvy enough to analyse the transactions made in bitcoin, without the use of very sophisticated tools and softwares, it’s close to impossible to track that,  many of them are attributed to guesswork without solid foundations, it would always the kids themselves know the spending much better, the only plus is that every payment leave a record on the network for investigation, which is much transparent than offline cash which usually leave no record at all, thus we have black market transactions.

I saw a video promoting kids to run away from the ang pao, I don't know if that has always been a thing or this was due to the fear of Corona-chan corrupting the kids.

Also, why do I feel that you dislike these relatives of yours? LOL. Anyway celebrations should be over by now, I hope you at least enjoyed the food.
===

That’s hilarious, btw it’s not common to use physical red envelope anymore since the digital money has gone mainstream. Try running away from a digital red envelope send by the internet, there is no way to run from it. The cuisine is fantastic, my favourite would have been the meat jerky that’s specially prepared by obscure chef, I’d crave into it all the time.

LOL, I guess that pretty much some up everything if you are going to a family reunion and you have nothing to show-off.  Smiley Been there myself, but I was not affected by it, I just take everyone's advise and get out and build my own future. Anyways, belated Chinese New year, and btw, it doesn't have any significant effect on the market price.

The thing is getting too ridiculous when we begin to see both young boy and girl avoiding it like a plague, boy hiring freelance to impress on the party, or girl hiring boy to pretend the the relationship. The entire scene look faking just to impress, they’ll even fake their wealth status by spending on cars and dressing up in a gentlemen

For one, Chinese New year is not only a Chinese holiday. many countries other than China are also celebrating. It’s a holiday there where a lot of people go traveling, so the idea is they’re taking money out of the market for other things during this time. It’s expected that the money will go back into the market when the holiday is over. If you look at the last few years you will see each year before Chinese New Year prices have majorly dropped. History tends to repeat itself. Also after Chinese New Year they tend to go way up. Expect major dip Weds and Thurs and next week prices to increase.

===

I bet it’s celebrated by the nations surrounding the China too, I had played some mobile games that’s featuring Korea, and they’re doing promotional sales on their dlc for this special day, the same goes for Japan and other part of the south east Asia. Btw the celebration is far from over, I think it’ll usually last for a few weeks, and don’t forget the white Christmas to follow in the coming weeks, I’d expect the impact on the bitcoin price to be little or nothing.

Belated Happy Lunar New Year and I hope the NCoV didn't rained on you party too much. I understand the "pain".  Grin

Not just New Year's but pretty much every large annual gathering goes like this . It's basically a way for relatives to keep tabs on each other's current social/economic standing, whether someone's lagging (in which case you get "advise") or leaving them behind (in which case they'll simmer quietly while "being happy" for you LOL).

I am not of the Chinese ancestry though I am Asian too. Here in my county, the Chinese culture is quite a pervasive one since they are dominating the business scene, holding a great percentage of our country's capital and wealth. We generally admire the Chinese culture because they are very entrepreneurial, and they know what they want and are so willing to sacrifice a lot just to get there, many of the traits that we also want to have. I and my family are not so familiar with the Chinese New Year because we are not celebrating it, but we are always aware of this festival because they are always mentioned in the mainstream and social media every year. Sadly, we have this false idea that doing what Chinese are doing can also be bringing luck to our side when in fact we usually do not understand the traits and the sacrifice that Chinese businessmen/women are putting up to be successful.

I’m certain the mainstream is misleading the celebration, it is used to be nothing more than gambling and feasting, but thing changed when mainstream new start making many additions into the mix, it soon become a time to impress other people with their social status, I think it the day for the wealthy to assert their domination into the masses. And it soon followed by all the non sense comparison that craved by the sjw badly.

===

===

Exactly, you’ll have been humiliated to have nothing to show off. That’s not a party for the faint heart, especially for the young mind who have nothing but to start their empire from scratch, no reason to boggle your mind over the non sense advices toss at you.

It’s the day you’re expect by many to spend a lot of money just to please your parent your gf and your kids.

Your wife have high expectation, your gf have high expectation, your kids have high expectation, and they will compare you on every corner.

Today is the Chinese New Year and these are just words of encouragement and encouragement from their relatives. In Asia, Chinese culture has a wide influence on the surrounding countries so I understand this, I am also an Asian.
All these words want to motivate you to become a better person and they want you to be better in the new year. they have no negative thoughts, they are all willing to help each other. They still have fun and gambling. Grin

Yeah, all schools are encouraging every single kids to appreciate this little usual moment, and celebrate it to your heart content. Btw Corona-chan is welcome too, there is nothing wrong too with just a tiny piece of virus, we need that badly.

There is not that many gatherings in Wuhan china with 11 million population. Most likely that will also spread in other cities soon. I would only expect negative news from China in the next month.

===

That’s absolutely brilliant.

===

even if nobody says anything to you, you wish that you could have offered something like that to your family, you love your kids, you probably love your wife,

===
TBH that’s not by choice, you can’t stop everyone to want to sound out their opinion, and compare each value you provide, they would cry about how their breadwinner are not the best and they should have this 40 quality to be a perfect spouse, and cry to their mum their life suck to be married. You can’t stop them to judge you based on their expectation, they’d rule out you not fit the bill.
===

freedom is just an idea. Nobody has real freedom nowadays,you have to be a paid slave and serve someone-wife,kids,boss,the government
===

It is the typical social order which make no mistake, and everything look perfectly fine and socially acceptable! Freedom is not worth getting. Of course I’m not trying to say it’s bad to be a responsible adult with a lot of obligations.

Last year we had lot of speculations on the prices because of Chinese new year but it seems trend has changed now.

Anyway every festival meant to be spend happt time with family but having responsibility to spend sucks so take care of yourself then everyone can be happy any day like new year.

===

Too bad the money is all well spent on pleasing their spouse and kids.

===

Corona virus is a perfect reason to distracting their focus. When the aunts begin to sprout non sense we would immediately skip it and mention virus, and it work wonder!

Look not celebrate Chinese new year with happy because their country faced with bad situation where Corona virus have make Chinese people look afraid and not allowed for flying to other country, I think is bad moment when celebrate with their Chinese new year but other side they faced with terrible virus in their country.

===

People are mad about can’t get into the holiday trips, btw it’s just great no spending on fine dining with your love one! Because the virus are to be blamed!

===

It doesn't only happens during Chinese New Year. I guess it's already a part of Asian culture when every occasion, your relatives and family will celebrate the holidays and then they would keep on telling you thing like getting married and etc. They'll be also expecting that you have a lot of money since you're already working. Well that one is kinda toxic. They keep minding your life.
We can't change that our families always spend money during special occasion, that's culture and during Chinese New Year there's a lot of beliefs that you should do this and that to welcome the luck.

===

You would collapse as soon as they getting into comparing you with someone else, that’s totally nightmare, it’s a complete fight to the bottom, every single fault would be included into the conversation! Ok I’m out.

===

You are right, everyone is running nonstop in the wheel of others' expectations. You need to stop to look at yourself and say enough.
I have to meet only my expectations. We live one life, and by and large, everyone around us does not give a damn because they are busy with their own lives.

===

The society is pretty locked up and you are looking at a very slim chance to escaping. Btw it’s good to start thinking of ourselves, and find how to escape from this prison.

As a married man I can tell you that even if nobody expects you to do anything like that, you feel the pressure just because others can do it and you may not. Not the taxes or bank part, I have been married since I was 23 years old and I have plenty of investments etc etc, yet the part about your wife having expectations and your children having expectations are sort of true, even if they don't say it themselves. When you live long enough, you will always face people who are more successful than you are, you will see worse people as well but you rarely ever focus on those people.

However, when you see people getting super rich, a lawyer friend getting wealthy enough to change cars every year, going vacations to amazing nations every summer and taking snow vacations on skiing places etc etc, even if nobody says anything to you, you wish that you could have offered something like that to your family, you love your kids, you probably love your wife, you want them to live the best life ever possible, you want them to never have to worry about money or health or anything and sometimes it is not possible.

Life is not easy, nobody ever promised you it will be easy, sometimes you will fail in life, not all things you do could be amazing, so in the end there will be down times. Focus on the good times of your life and the people you are fortunate enough to share and you will feel a lot better.

with all due respect mate,but i believe Chinese are spending lots of money because they are gaining lot also that year so they are celebrating with Gallant ways of celebrations.

i am not a Chinese but i have many Chinese friends and learning from them?this is the most celebrated days for them(second to Mooncake festival) so why are we to question their ways?

It’s a typical work hard to spend hard culture, it is perfectly healthy! Also adding some extra ingredients into the mix, by proposing various habit of spending lavishly. Gambling, fire crackers, tossing red envelopes, and so on. Btw doesn’t it fit perfectly into the teaching of goto school, graduate, get a good job with benefit, and retire with pension. There is absolutely no issues by following the rule.

So if the china new year is today, it means that this year is not like previous 5 years. This year started with an uptrend comparing to previous new years  Smiley At least there is something positive here  Cheesy

Of course, we must respect the culture of others because of that the world can be seen as unique. But from a different perspective, culture can still be considered wrong or inappropriate for various reasons. But not with their respective communities because they have been doing it for a long time and it doesn't matter when everyone hopes to be the best on the big celebration day.

There is something I want to know about Chinese New Year (Imlek), red clothes and decorations and etc. Why does it have to be red, is this a certain symbol that they must use on each day of this annual celebration?

The mascot which often seem on the greeting card is dressed in full red colour and holding a gold bullion, I bet it has something to do with it. They worship the mascot as perversive as the Jesus worshipper. This is the mascot for your reference: Caishen. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caishen

Wow, the Chinese truly are money-oriented, no wonder we have the stereotype of the Chinese businessman in Southeast Asia. The only thing we do with our New Year's celebration is eat.  Grin I don't think there's anything wrong talking about finances, I think it's even a good part of your culture that you are thinking about growing wealth.

But yeah, take everything with a grain of salt. If getting rich is easy, then everyone of those people giving "good" financial advice should all be rich by now.

Just try to have fun, don't mind the aunties asking about your romantic status and weight, enjoy your family's company and keep Corona-chan out of the party.

It’s very good to be good and decent human being! We need all these positive moral values to be passed down for every heirs. The entire world need to embrace this values too.

===

Not only that, the need is increasing when the Chinese New Year, we already know the culture of gambling while drinking very closely with their communities. And of course it is necessary to spend more money than distributing envelopes containing money to relatives.
On the other side of the Chinese New Year celebration is the existence of the Corona virus outbreak, as reported by several news sites, the Chinese New Year celebration is thought to cause the Chinese economy faltered due to this corona virus.
Usually the Chinese when celebrating Chinese New Year always travel to visit relatives for about 1 week. Chinese New Year usually becomes the momentum that drives the wheels of the economy. Sectors affected positively by this tradition are transportation, tourism, hospitality, restaurants to other entertainment industries. This is where China's economy will increase with the number of public transportation, public shopping places etc. many visited by people. But now it is different due to the outbreak of the corona virus which makes Chinese people worried, the Chinese government ordered the closure of some tourism facilities, transportation etc. to prevent the outbreak of this corona virus.

===

This is part of the new year, we urge the “outsider” take this moment with a grain of salt. Many curious travellers love to make a big fuss out of it. Btw Corona make a good addition to our never ending need, we need taxes, bank, getting married, invest, a job, and a little nourishing drop of Corona wrath’s.
