In fact, tokenization is the process of transforming storage and asset management, in which each asset is assigned a digital counterpart.
Tokenization changes the asset management setting: instead of managing through an order, the asset is managed directly through a digital signature. This can be examined on the example of the banking system and bitcoin. In the banking system, we ourselves send an order where the bank employee is dealing with this order. In the case of bitcoin, the initiator places a digital signature, which is sufficient to carry out the transaction.
There are three types of tokenization:
1. Use cryptography to manage accounts.
2. Interaction of system components through open APIs.
3. Decentralization of audit and decision-making.
Such changes will bring a number of advantages to the sphere. In the field of functionality will appear plug-in business logic modules and smart contracts. In the field of security - the possibility of a transparent audit in real time with access to results for all parties, as well as guaranteed synchronization of data between bidders. In terms of convenience - the ability to work any software with any trading platform. In the sphere of management - the possibility of collective asset management, which does not require trust. Transition to the digital form, allows to expand speed, safety, convenience of carrying out of operations. And it also reduces the need for intermediaries. Similarly, tokenization gives unexpected opportunities to assets such as adding assets to properties that are not inherent in them.
But there are downsides to this. For example: potential access for any person in the world. Obviously, the procedures KYC / AML, and generally regulation, always depending on the specific jurisdiction, do not meet the needs of the market. This task will be solved through unification of procedures and maintenance by market leaders. Well, for now, the task can be solved by limiting the range of investors or yuzkeys, for which all processes can be digitized - for example, within the holding company.
The second problem is the lack of infrastructure and some standardized approaches to tokenization. The public blockade itself provides only the function of storing information about an asset with limited opportunities to carry out transactions. Any complete tokenization system will include:
1.Managing roles (users and system administrators).
2.Security Management
3.Management of the life cycle of an asset (emission, withdrawal from circulation, etc.).
4.Integration with KYC / AML systems.
5.Integration with payment gateways.
6.Management of commissions, limits, events.
7.Exchange module or integration with external exchanges.
8.Mobile and web applications.
Founder and CEO of BHBnetwork Giacomo Zucco presented a prototype asset tokenization protocol that allows you to create various classes of digital financial instruments over bitcoin. Being an add-on over the main layer of bitcoin, the protocol under the working name RGB in the potential will also be compatible with the Lightning Network.
