I wouldn't say Chelsea has nothing to play for this season. First of all, Premier League prize money is split according to league position, so there's always something at stake there. But also, many are just looking at the league table for spots in the Champions League and Europa League forgetting that the winner of the FA cup also gets a spot in Europa League. And if the winner has already secured a spot in the Champions League or Europa League by high league position, that spot is passed down to the next highest league position.
This means that if Man City wins the FA Cup, the 6th place will get a spot in the Europa League next season and Chelsea does have a chance for that place. They're 7 points behind Man United but have 2 games more to play (so there's a potential 6 points there).
