Hope this doesn't sound spammy, I am in no way related to this project... I just think it's a seriously important effort that NEEDS more attention, and with an ethos that should appeal to Bitcoin users.

If you haven't used it, check it out here (get the qTox client):
https://tox.chat/

And the fundraiser, aiming for a measly $5000 for a months full time dev work:
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/toxcore-development

(They do have a Bitcoin address listed there too, though may need $ to hit the pay out threshold.)

Fellow Bitcoin users, if you give half a shit about the principles behind Bitcoin (muh freedoms!), and care about privacy from gubment spying at all, you should be helping promote/fund Tox. It's in the early stages of development but already quite usable.

The key feature (beyond being p2p and encrypted) that puts Tox above other previous attempts at open source encrypted communication is that this is virtually as easy to use as Skype... If you can copy/paste a user ID, you can use this. And it's lighter weight, too!

Even if you don't give them any money, install the software, try it out, and spread the word... I've replaced Skype with this for my personal use. You should too Wink
