It was never eliminated entirely, and many forms of exploitation could be said to be equivalent. It's still not somthing to encourage.

The TPP seems likely to return and pass in the US, and in England too, among other places. The Young Turks had an episode about it recently.

It allows organisations to sue governments for laws that result in loss of earnings, or even possible future loss of earnings, like many public safety and civil rights laws.

In effect, combined with everything else, it seems to be a big push to make being politically progressive illegal across much of the world, in one change of the law removes a great deal of other laws and wastes all of our tax money in the process, as well as making disruptive technologies as good as impossible, which is the worst part which will ultimately make it unsustainable. Small businesses may well become impractical too.

Sanctions could rapidly become a bad word.

I think the TPP is politically meta, it's not just a political change, it's as significant as when democracy was invented/discovered, or swings between real left and right wing politics, it's a sea change.

Putting aside "sovereignty" and "jobs" and the rest of the politics, the consequences far outweigh other sorts of political scuffles.

This could be, in a world that feels entirely right wing, a much needed endgame, and whatever happens next, good or bad.

It seems likely that slavery will return, wether briefly or sustainably.

I'm amazed at the lack of attention here.
