This is an excellent idea.

There are some dubious accounts giving merits for no apparent reason to other dubious accounts, it would be good to list them in one place for others to evaluate.

Also, many merit sources have all too often given merits for posts that did not deserve a second glance. I understand they (just as any non-merit source member) could state they were applying their discretion but in many cases if their giving out merits does not stand up to scrutiny then having a location to collate their actions would definitely not be counterproductive to the function of the forum.

The key here is that many of us have differing opinions. The posts that might be deemed as appropriate for me to give merits to could be deemed to be incoherent and unnecessary ramblings to a different member. If the thread becomes popular it will be interesting to see how it develops.

We cannot do anything about the users regarding where they spend their merits, but we can keep an archive of such users who:
- Get merits for Low-quality posts
- Giving merits to low-quality, useless posts.

There would be the following benefits:

1. There will be help to alt hunters who consider merits.
2. If merit sources are constantly meriting such posts (Then it can be reported)
3. If this thread becomes popular (I don't know if it will), we might see users who merit posts start doing so responsibly, and who knows if we will start seeing organic discussions rather than posting just for campaign funds.

I will start with the fact that you're not telling anything new. However, you seem to be missing a (small?) detail: merit sources have most probably read this, in a way or another already; those who are not merit sources most probably deplete their merit too fast to be meaningful "in the grand scheme of things".

If the background for this is that some want to earn more merit and it hurts when others receive theirs "too easy", I think that the solution may be a way to have as merit sources those who [1] spend a lot time here and also [2] read a huge amount of posts. Of course, point [2] is very difficult to quantify/prove, hence I have no better solution than what the forum already has.

So I'd suggest you focus on coming with good and fresh ideas  Wink

This thread might attract some people who are butt-hurt for not getting merits. To this, my point would be: If they're not doing well in trying to get merits with their current writing style, knowledge, and experience, then they can report posts that get merits, and for reporting meaningless posts and citing why they think it's pointless/spam/irrelevant to the topic, it might create a trolling environment here too.

That way, we can judge the person reported for meeting such posts, and admins can take action on them. It will also set an example to others of what should be acceptable and what's not.

[1] - Yes, experience is necessary, and I agree.
[2] - If the person passes point [1], they are already ahead of that.

At this point, I have no better solution than keeping an archive of posts that get merits for no good reason; it would be even better to keep track of user(s) who keep repeating this behavior.
We can keep on updating this thread as time passes.

P.S. This thread isn't to target users that merit posts of humor [We need good users of good humor]; provide some meaning, disregarding being short/one line. (More suggestions are welcome.

Anyone making posts in this thread for the sake of Campaign quota will get their post deleted by me - That's why Self-Moderated.
