I believe you can move the entire directory structure from one machine to another. The client will have to take time to read the local blockchain but it's nowhere near as long as a download.

I just spent two days getting the blockchain on my laptop, and I don't want to go through it all again on my desktop. My laptop runs OSX, and my desktop runs Linux. Should I just quit Bitcoin on both, copy ~/Library/Application Support/Bitcoin/blocks to my flash drive, and then to ~/Bitcoin/blocks on my desktop? Do I need chainstate or database from my Mac's bitcoin folder?
