I have seen some Jr Members who have a translation works already (of course they started on scratch) meaning they able to get one even without a past work/s by them.

There is also a lot of Jr. Member/Member in my local forum that has a lot of translations works. However, it seems that they are translating the ANN/Bounty thread of some project unofficially. As soon as a new thread is up, they decide to translate it without the dev concern in order to build a 'portfolio'. I report some of them to the dev, and they said: "Thank you for reporting, that is not our official translation."

For OP, just don't do this. It will harm your reputation. Try to approach the dev first before you do any translation.

Hello. I wanted to ask a question about the translation portfolio. I want to start doing translation campaigns, but all of them require a built portfolio. So how do you get those first materials to translate and put into your portfolio?

Hunt multiple bounty campaigns at the same time and apply for translation as much as you can, as long as you are not spamming the section. If the bounty thread is newly opened and you are the one who able to reserved it first and the bounty manager itself is not that strict in terms of past works, then it will increase your chances to get the translation work. Of course because you have no experienced yet, put some statement right after your application post on why should they accept you and also includes that on the application form sheet. Think of a way how will you get their attention like the usual work application.

If you ever did any translation work even if it's not cryptocurrency related, it'll be counted as a past project so you could try convincing the bounty manager to accept you.

However, If this is your first time translating, you could try your luck on bountyhive as I heard that they are accepting even a user with no portfolio there but the best option is to just offer your service for free until you gain enough experience.

You could refer to some outside sources such as xbtfreelancer.com. The sites allows you search different fields for freelance work, including translation services. You might be able to use some of the work you complete in your portfolio. It's worth a shot.

That site you have given is not accepting new members. and regarding to the topic, portfolio is a compilation of work you have done with your previous paid or unpaid services as long as you are the one who made it.

Translation campaign is an area of bounty with less people that can make you money. You need to start with a low profile ICO or even translate existing ICOs and make that as your portfolio.

You didn't say what language you are interested in? If it is a language that is considered desirable by projects than you can do it following way.
* Go to the alt coins ANN thread and chose some low profile project which doesn't require portfolio.
* Repeat few more times. Advice - choose projects which only need ANN translation, WP is too much work when there is high probability that the project fill fail.
* Now you have a small portfolio and some experience and you can start to chose your projects more carefully. I received exactly 0 $ from my first 6 projects. So don't get disheartened by the tough beginnings. There is good money to be made if you chose right project.

I'd start off with bounty campaigns which offer to write articles or translate news for a project. The texts need to be of good quality and not too short. That way, you build a portfolio and don't need to do it for free.

I never get interest into that sort of thing.

But you can try to do something to get your own sample but offering free translation or making your own by choosing an article to translate which will be part of your portfolio.

In fact, the main thing is to make the first quality translation. Then your portfolio will expand. And only will follow the appearance of new topics on the forum.

Not every project requires a portfolio. You can also start with reviews of the whitepaper in your language. Often such articles are alliwed to be part of the portfolio.
