There are 3 main ways.

One - Bitcoin accepting merchants. Pay for flights, accommodation etc directly with bitcoin.

Two - Bitcoin debit cards. Visa/Mastercard-linked cards are pretty handy and convenient. Even virtual cards can be used for this purpose, which is cool, so you can just book stuff online.

Three - Sell bitcoins locally for local currency. Plastic bitcoin cards can be used for this as well.

Seems that airbnb won't accept bitcoins. Only Expedia do, however Expedia is only for hotels, and hotels are expensive. There's also a bitcoin travel website which is only for hotels.

Do any of you know of a site that rent furnished flats and bedrooms like airbnb and also that accept bitcoins? If we are to get rid of the banks we want to know of services which accept bitcoin.

I know nothing that is reputable/has many options.
Bitcoin needs to scale first so as to have low fees in order to be attractive to businesses.
Right now there is absolutely no reason for a business to accept Bitcoin.

If everything grows well, Bitcoin will grow. Businesses will start accepting it and services that have rejected Bitcoin in the past will reconsider.
