When I first used my ledger I noted down the seed and the passphrase. I checked the bitcoin public address and noted it down.
Then I reseted the device. Inserted the seed and passphrase again, and checked the bitcoin public address. They matched, so I was sure I noted it correctly.

I recently used the same strategy when creating a new seed for my Trezor.  Very reassuring.

I added one step:  After initializing the wallet the first time I used Electrum to create a watch-only wallet using the master public key.  After restoring the Trezor I could then compare the addresses listed in the HW enabled wallet and the watch-only.

I'm planning to update my firmware and I will test the seed first but couldn't find info If I can test the passphrase as well.

I know the passphrase but I'm not sure if I have enabled it when I set it up.

I used an strategy when I first set up my ledger which worked very well, I don't know if you have already set up your trezor..

The webapp and Electrum prompt you for the passphrase, so if it was enabled you would know it when trying to access the wallet.

The webapp lets you log into the wallet that's backed up by the seed alone.  If it asks for a passphrase you can leave it blank and still continue, but that won't be the same wallet that's passphrase enabled.  I think it's designed to provide "plausible deniability" in case of a $5 wrench attack.

If you normally use Electrum, you can click on the Hardware icon at the bottom right corner of the window:

And, under the Information tab it'll show if the passphrase is enabled:

If it's not already enabled, you can enable it under the Advanced tab.

Is there a way to see if I have enabled the passphrase for my trezor one hw wallet?
As mentioned, you need to explicitly turn on passphrases for a Trezor ONE. It's in the web wallet GUI, click on the device in the menu on the left, then select "Advanced":

If it is switch on, after you enter your PIN, there will be a prompt to enter the passphrase:

NOTE: it is possible to enable passphrase functionality, create a passphrase protected wallet... then disable the passphrase functionality again. It is also possible to enable the passphrase functionality, and use a blank passphrase.

So this is not a 100% accurate method of determining if there are actually passphrase derived wallets created with your seed.

By default, the device does not ask for the passphrase after the PIN entry. If the website asks you for it then there is a chance that you set up the passphrase. It's not a reliable method.

He probably turned on the password option so it'll ask for a pw even if it's blank.

It'll prompt you for the passphrase when you open the trezor website and put your pin in..
Then try your password, click the eject button and then try again without the password if nothing shows up.

Why don't you pair your wallet with Electrum if you can't use the web wallet for some reason? You can check if there are any funds on accounts without any passphrase.

If you know the passphrase then no worries about anything else. Just do whatever you want to do.
